- Barkha Dutt reports from Seemapuri Shamshan Ghat, a hindu Crematorium in the national capital. This report is a reality check at India's cremation grounds where pyres burn 24/7, mass cremations take place but deaths are undercounted and underreported. Families of the deceased express their grief and say first when our loved one was alive, hospitals ran out of beds and now when they have died, the crematoriums have no space to perform the last rites. From Delhi to Surat, doubts mount over official death count of Covid patients. Mojo Story talked to Jitender Singh Shunty, who is a volunteer at the funeral site. He told us that in 2020, when covid was at its peak, we did not cremate more than 30 bodies a day on an average. He said that this year, the number is very high and 122 bodies were cremated on Wednesday at the funeral site. He said that actual deaths are at least double than what the official data tells us. Why were the quarantine centres and Jumbo covid facilities were shut, he asked. "Was Covid a festival that it finished? Why weren't sufficient arrangements made?", he asks the authorities. He also expressed his anger saying, "Not people, but humanity died in Delhi". Mojo Story salutes the undertakers or volunteers at funeral sites for their relentless and selfless service.
