@@TheRealStevenWard I was thinking... Fortin is basically Meshuggah tone these days. Maybe you could try to nail Fredrik's rhytm tone with NTS and the Nameless... I know Meshuggah is complicated, but I believe this would prove that sky is the limit with these plugins. :)
Oooh. Can’t wait to try these tones tomorrow. Your tones are awesome. Just bought a new guitar I can’t to try with the neural stuff. A Schecter C1 SLS evil twin with the fishmans wich is just amazing to my ears. Had them in an explorer i sold and been missing them ever since. Lamb of god is one of my favorite bands and finally got to see them live at copenhell festival this summer. Awesome 👍🏼😎
Steven Ward Have an Ltd with emgs as well and its my main go to guitar. Dont really know how i could sell that fishman stocked esplorer 😳 The guy who bought it was pretty overwhelmed by them. Actually considered Adlers warbird or the nergal 6 for my next guitar but ended up with the schecter since i allready have a singlecut ltd. Hope the schecter is worth it 😬
killer video my guy...I own the NTS and have run up my trials on Nameless and Nolly plugins, both are incredible. Currently trial running the Cali Suite, which doesn't get the love it deserves! Nameless Suite's high gain clarity is amazing but the versatility of the Cali Suite is insanity. The NTS suite is still a personal favorite of mine because the girth/grind custom gain tone is perfect alongside the hexdrive and the volume knob actually saturating the tonestack which opens up alot of possibilities that are right up my alley. I appreciate all the insight and in depth looks at these badass plugins my dude, keep pushing the killer content. Quad Cortex coming soon, I can't FUCKING WAIT
Hey Steven! I really appreciate your dedication for this artist tone series. Maybe you want to take a look on the band Shadow Of Intent? The guitars in their songs like for example The Heretic Prevails, The Return or Dirge Of The Void sound absolutely fantastic and I would love to watch you recreate them. Unfortunetaly I am not able to master this task by myself but I am pretty sure that you would nail it as usual =). Greetings from Germany!
My wife and I absolutely agree with the Gojira request. "Silvera," is a definite on the list, with "Stranded," or, "The Cell," possibly, with, "Liquid Fire," a definite favorite. One that's probably less popular here, but would be definitely very interesting, would be, "Born in Winter," with tones from both guitars, from the clean sections and the full high-gain sections, and maybe even throw in a couple bass tones. As a musician who plays both bass and guitar I often feel the bass being under-represented on videos and channels like this, and its unfortunate, because there are many young bassists who could probably use some help in creating quality sounding bass tones. I also am amazed at the lack of creativity and originality when it comes to creating bass tones in modern metal. It's almost always an approach of splitting the signal, either with a crossover, or use two identical tracks, with one track chopped roughly in half by a low pass filter and the other track chopped roughly in half by a high pass filter, either way, the higher frequencies, including the upper mid-range, is recommended to be distorted until it's barely recognizable as a musical instrument ( one channel referred to it as, "to distort until it sounds like s***," and then to compress the low end until it has absolutely no life left in it. Well this approach can generate good and even some great bass tones it can also generate absolutely terrible, unlistenable, Bass tones. It also, when done song after song, is as monotonous and boring as listening to Modern metal bass player after modern metal bass player spend song after song Simply mocking, or doubling, the guitar rhythm riffs an octave lower again and again and again and again. To me, that's even more unlistenable than a bad bass tone. Well that approach absolutely, positively, can be very effective and has its place in metal songs, a creative bass line can I be a difference between just another run-of-the-mill metal song and a modern-day metal classic.
The only reference I’ve heard about tubes is from mark during a interview for a magazine.. saying he loved Russian svetlana tubes 6l6 and that he hordes them and buys them whenever he can cause they are hard to find now.. he likes the older older ones best
You used the original Lamb of God tracks and blended your Neural DSP guitar track panned center? That could be somewhat misleading for a lot of folk here. They might assume the whole guitar mix is an Amp sim, not just something poking through the middle. Did Lamb of God and Nuclear Blast / Sony Entertainment give the go ahead for this video? Just out of curiosity.
I love those series. I wonder if it would interest you to make a video about Emgirate's guitar sound? Spitfire, My World or 1234 are great examples and I think many users would like to know about Richard Z. Kruspe's guitar layering methods. Keep up the good work!
Wonderful series, and very instructive. Hi Steven, you talked about Strapping Young Lad, Lamb of God (I love them), and Opeth (which is pearhaps my favorite band with Suicidal Tendencies). Do you think it's possible to dial Opeth's tones with Neural DSP plugins ? Couldn't it be an idea for a future video ? Many thanks for your work and inspiration. Jérémie from France.
Thank you for the kind words! I started working on Opeth a little bit so I definitely think its possible. 😁 I'll start working more on that one soon so stay tuned. 🤘🤘
I'm doing the trials of the Archetype: Petrucci and Gojira at the moment to decide which one I will purchase (first lmao). They both come with so much that neither feels limiting to one genre. LoG is arguably my favorite band. But Eric Johnson is also a huge tone influencer for me. Of those two Archetypes, which one do you think I'd be able to get closer to a LoG tone from ashes or sacrament?
Lamb of god are guitar wizards of metal. Love their sound and always there is a theory salt every time I heard a new badass riff, i thought damn that's exactly the kind of Riff I would like to make up. like most other guitarist I end up being more melodic cuz it just comes easier. But totally respect and love their sound. 🤘😝🤘
Steven Ward That’s cool. For years and years I thought that JB stood for Jeff Beck too. Until I saw an interview with Seymour Duncan that said it stands for jazz blues. A lot of Pro guitar players are under that assumption as well. And by the way I forgot to say. I really dig the video!
What a great video. And go figure it's ESP and Jackson guitars. Metallica and a lot of the other bands you named play those two brands. My dream guitar for the longest time was the ESP KH2 and the Jackson Kelly. I don't think they have made that one for a while now. But now I don't know what I want. I stopped playing for a long time. This video gave me some ideas.
duuuuude fuck yeah. im excited you did this finally. it seems like no one ever does lamb of god in "sound like" videos. or at least i can't find any. now when is the strapping youg lad one coming out? ;) ;). lol jk. this video just came out.

So like...here's the NTS...here's an awful sounding weak tone...and now here in the mix it sounds good. What is going on to make it sound good? Is it just the rest of the band being mixed in to it? Cuz...I don't want an amp that sounds like a little mushy wuss, even if it does recording well...I'd like to be able to jam on this thing without sounding like a wet piece of tissue paper. How do you get it to sound full and impactful?
