Totally agree. It's as if she saw Jennifer Saunders being an (intentionally) appalling interviewer in "More Bad News", thought it was a genuine documentary and decided, _"I can ask much more unimaginative, facile and ridiculous questions than that in an attempt to create a non-existent scandal surrounding a band on the road..."_
The greatest sadness in the history of Rock is the demise of the THE FRANTIC FOUR, the greatest Rock Band in history. No matter what your bias or ignorance is, STATUS QUO are the most sincere and genuine and authentic Rock Band to plug in or hit a snare or cymbal. As the great John Lydon said in a BBC interview in 1977, the reason that THE SEX PISTOLS liked and respected STATUS QUO was because " they don't care what you think " Therefore, QUO's attitude defines what PUNK Rock is. There are some very intelligent musicologists who've drawn comparisons between The Ramones and STATUS QUO. This is due to the two bands creating their own brand and style that appears to be simple, yet is complex and unique. The demise of the Frantic Four has parallels to SPINAL TAP's. absurdity. When they reformed in 2013 and played sold out shows at Wembley Stadium, and other major venues, Francis ' Frame ' Rossi said that when they looked into the crowd they saw the toughest and hardest men and women openly and uncontrollably weeping as the greatest Rock Band of all time came on stage . For the first time since 1970, Rossi didn't say " ow are ya then, alright? " Which is his trademark intro. This was a very special and auspicious occasion in the history of the Universe and all the Gods were watching and listening. As the two greatest Guitarists and Bass player vocalists of all time conferred with the best swing/shuffle Drummer of all time, they launched into " Junior's Wailing " which knocked the first 50 rows back a metre. The Bass player and Vocalist that performed the vocals on the first 4 songs had multiple sclerosis, yet he gave the best performance of all 4 members. Within just a few seconds they launched into " Backwater/Just Take Me " a LANCASTER/PARFITT classic from their 1974 album called QUO. The crowd were exploding in rapture as the greatest Rock Band in history played the best riffs and rhythms ever heard. When Francis Rossi said " What can I say " Alan Lancaster and John Coghlan, the crowd went berserk, absolutely wild. Alan ' Nuff ' Lancaster on Bass / Vocals, John 'Spud ' Coghlan on Drums, Rick ' Reg ' Parfitt the best Rhythm Guitarist of all time / Vocals and Francis ' Frame ' Rossi the best Lead Guitarist of all time /Vocals otherwise known as The Frantic Four. Unbeknownst to all STATUS QUO supporters, we had no idea that when we heard " Pictures of Matchstickmen " in 1968, or " Down the Dustpipe " in 1970, that we were hearing the birth and fledgling sounds of the future No.1 Rock Band in history. if you ever want to meet the most ardent Rock Music supporters and you've got a few hours to listen, then have a chat with someone from the STATUS QUO army. Whether they are a Factory worker or a Lawyer, they'll give you the same reasons why STATUS QUO stand alone as The Greatest Rock Band of all time. RIP Alan Lancaster & Rick Parfitt
I wouldn't call them my favourite band but I've seen them live more times than any other band or solo artist, probably about 20 times. Anyone who says they don't like them should go to one of their gigs, I come away buzzing every time.
I hate the way she tries to mock them at every chance she get's. I also love how down to earth they remain and don't give a shit. That might just be the secret of the band's amazing success!
I have been to a lot of quo gigs and met Francis and Rick and they are always down to earth great guys a great band sadly Rick as passed away to the great sadness of the many millions of status quo fans RIP Rick from all the millions of quo fans keep on rock and rolling love this band for over 40 years
With Rick Parfitt and Alan Lancaster gone, things wille never get the same, aren't they. Loved them sine "Caroline". Lost them since "Rockin' All Over The World".
The entertainment value of Rossi and Parfitt when they were interviewed by countless reporters and on tv shows, they really had a great sense of humour and spoke very easily - they were good types to interview.
When I played in a piano bar in Tenerife in the midd late 80s it just happened to be in a complex where this band own apartments and whilst not on tour they would come in the piano bar and sit around the piano , They always made a point of taking an interest in my piano playing and showed appreciation even though my music was different to theirs the manager Simon was actually a good friend and we’d eaten with friends together with other friends he had said he’d got sent a tape from England from a musician which he liked and when I heard it I recognised it as being from a guitarist I’d played in a band with 10 years previously Small world lol
Not one of my favourite bands, but you can’t fault their popularity or ongoing success. They send themselves up, don’t take themselves seriously, are honest and have a loyal following. Genuine rockers.
Just four normal hard working guys. Nothing pretentious about them. They deliver what it says on the tin. Very impressed with the lady who arranges the trip details.
I am a live sound engineer...and toured for 25 years. I was with an 80s rock band for 12 years... I was both their sound guy and their tour manager. 4 of the principle members had always stayed together...while a 5th band member had left for some years, and returned halfway through my tenure. These guys had been through marriages, kids, divorces, bad business deals, financial troubles individually...and as a band. They had been through feast and famine...and finally settled into a regular working schedule.... short run in the spring.... fairly extensive summer tour... with a short 2 week run between Thanksgiving and Christmas. By the time I quit, in 2012... the band had been together for about 33 years. They still got on amazingly well, but did have their ups and downs... I had my ups and downs myself, with them. It got quite ugly on a few occasions. But they were still very much a band, and still trucking along. There is just no way to spend that many seasons of your life together, and not have conflict. People change over the years... interest change, habits change, preferences change, priorities change. To keep all that balanced among 5 band members, management, and crew...is no easy task. The travel alone, is enough to make you mad sometimes, then add on top of that the workload... its a lot to deal with. But at the end of the day... if things turned bad, and the band had to fight something together... they always had each others back. Being on the road eventually became their version of summer camp. A chance to take a break from the pressures of home, and other business interests. Knowing they had a few solid hits over the years... was enough to keep them working at a steady pace...on a schedule they all decided on together...something they could all tolerate, the families could tolerate, etc... It became quite a nice gig. But there are still tons of pressures to keep it all up and running. Francis is like a Pete Townsend type personality... very guarded, while Rick is just more down to earth and simple. Of course they are going to have an issue now and then, after decades in each others faces. But it doesn't mean they don't place a high value on each other, in many ways.
In 1992 Diesel Park West toured with Quo in Germany probably about twenty gigs. At first we like most people regarded them as a bit of a joke. At the first gig in Hamburg we watched them and basically had a laugh at their expense taking the piss. However by the third gig we were in awe of them. Their sheer work ethic and professionalism was a wonder to witness. We never seen anyone soundcheck so thoroughly. It's no coincidence that they have done such great business. Also what goes on between those two Telecasters is unbelievably tight and has a real magic about it. Status Quo are quite possibly the most socially important band in British rock n roll over and above all ( that's ALL) others.
This is without doubt the best rock doc I have seen, having spent time touring I know it's just like this. Well done Channel 4. I once jammed with Quo in the dressing room at a gig in Southhampton when we were doing the support, top geezers.
Being on the road for months, playing the same music night after night, seeing the same faces day after day... living on a bus, eating not the best food, not having family around, having to "turn it on" every night... certainly not an easy lifestyle. And not for everyone. The recent "retirement" of David Paich of Toto is an example of the body just saying "that's enough". It's a brutal life. But for the fans, every concert has to appear fresh. Some people might have waited years to see these performers. Can't disappoint them, not matter how rotten you feel. And when all the bills for the tour are paid, the bus driver, the food, the assistants, the management, the techs, the hotel bills, maybe there will be some money left over for he performers. Then there's the adrenalin rush and the drop. the depression, cramped dressing rooms, the depressing hotel rooms.. Give the guys credit. The average fan just doesn't realize what's involved in a tour. This video does a good job in filling in the gaps.
It looks very hard work. Without the drugs and booze Rick and Francis seem depressed when not actually gigging, which is most of the time. Great band and doc.
Someone should interview the filmmaker Jane Treays now in 2019 and ask her how many hit films she has made and if she thinks that she is too old to make documentaries... !
Most of the QUO trademark sounds were developed by Alan Lancaster & John Coghlan. Alan has said in interviews that Coghlan should've been given writing credits on quite a few songs, due to his major contributions. The Rhythm section laid the foundation that Rick and Francis added to.
I like how Francis is very reserved and snarky towards the interviewer (and just generally) but when asked if he loves Rick he responded straight away with "Of course I love him".
A great band one of my favourites ever. I'm 63 but what a terrible researcher and hostess who obviously hasn't got a clue. If that's a presenter il go for her job but i doubt she made it. Quo did though. Rest in peace Rick.
Over the last 43 years Ive been to at least 2 Quo gigs per year. Ive met the band a few times. The only band member Ive had a bad interaction with was with Alan Lancaster.. That was the first and only time I met him.

Imfpredicts , thank you for that sad information. I wasn't aware of Nigel until this film and didn't know he'd passed away. Just read about the whole thing on line. Very very sad. 😐
Take someone who says they dont like Quo along to a concert and see if, within the first minute, the foot isn't a tappin', and the leg isn't a shakin', and the body isn't a groovin'. If none of these things are a happ'nin'...they're not alive.
Sick listen about three cords, every group has a sound with in two seconds you know its The Beatles or Queen or Stones, its the sound that gives them success.
Both superb guitarists at what they do. I'd rather listen to a Rossi solo than some metal shred shit. And I'd rather listen to Rick playing like a metronome than some overkill showoff.
Interviewer has no idea about the band, fact is they have lasted this long because their that good, lot of so called big name bands have come and gone but quo are still here ,
when they released rockin all over the world! they just became shit overnight and with all that followed,in my opinion. when they were good, they was very very good
Alan passed on recently. RIP. He'd left the band many years earlier. They moved on and acquired a new bass player .. bands do that. They don't mope about thinking about past members.
Well, they play blues, 12-Bar Blues. There usually are only 3 chords. ZZTop also made a 50-year career of playing 3 chords. Playing bass for either of these bands is not that difficult, from a notational point of view. Having said that, Rhino Edwards might be one of my favourite bass players ever.
Interviewer/narrator mocks them with every chance she gets the jelous cow. Putting words into frances rossis mouth. Just a jelous person who dont like Quo and jumped at the chance to step on their toes
I don't understand how a band has been successful for 40 odd yrs (@ when this doc was made), and are playing in really small venues, and crappy hotel rooms. You would think they would be playing in stadiums or arenas, and crashing in 5 * hotels. Also, people who keep asking Francis about Rick's death, and saying he doesn't care, just because he doesn't publicly show any emotion about it, really should watch this. They both admit they love each other, but more tellingly, is Francis' 'wall' when being interviewed. He's been in the spotlight and interviewed too many times to air his real feelings in public. Maybe when he's alone he becomes sad sometimes over Rick, maybe not, but both are OK.
@michelle88960 That depends on how you measure success. Quo are still very successful, but they play only to their core fan-base and are making a very tidy living doing so. They make more money after one gig than what the average worker makes a year, believe it nor not. But if that makes them failures and losers to you, then so be it.
This was filmed during the time that ANDY BOWN was having personal problems. Andy toured Australia in 2003. Had a chat with them at an album signing in Sydney.
final straw for me at 2:54 with comment about "most of them played on 3 chords"...I'd let "Rick being a founder member of the band" mistake go as poor research and the comment about her friends laughing at the mention of Quo. Frame should have told her to bugger off at that point in the interview.
I'm an Australian aboriginal indigenous man from Australia I heard the music ever since when I was kid in Central Australia
People that slag this band off clearly can’t be musicians...these boys are the real deal💪🏻

I enjoyed Quo in the 70's, and have recaptured my interest in the same music 50 years on
And this is 20 years ago........
I have loved the que all my life..francis rossi, the best💙😎
Anybody know if Maureen still follows them about?
I’d like to think she does
Makes me laugh people go on about only playing three chords , the whole of modern music came from three chords , Blues.
As a musician I agree !
I don’t need moore chords! But I love there energy and boogie 😀
Both superb guitarists at what they do. I'd rather listen to a Rossi solo than some metal shred shit. And I'd rather listen to Rick playing like a metronome than some overkill showoff.
@@Daxman360 very well said.
Well, if it was good enough for Beethoven ...
LEGENDS.
Senores del escenario fransis y ricki
They’re cool you can’t deny that….
Hard working band, real musicians! not like todays shit!
Not a bad life really.......RIP Rick Parfitt
The narrator of this documentary sounds like she doesn't care for the Quo.
Tanta salute per te FRANCIS ROSSI ❤
👌👌👌👌👌👌

Never heard of ACDC, eh?
My dad grew up with them then later I grew up with them
Bat chiller. Rick probably thought c'mon, woman...work with me here 😎
The narrator is bloody annoying, shouldn't be on the job, very condescending.
Interviewer has no idea about the band, fact is they have lasted this long because their that good, lot of so called big name bands have come and gone but quo are still here ,
Live einsame spitze ❤🎶
I started losing them when Alan Lancaster left, they went all cabaret.
when they released rockin all over the world! they just became shit overnight and with all that followed,in my opinion. when they were good, they was very very good
your loss. Released lots of great stuff since 197X

Nothing about Alan Lancaster ?
Shocking, founder member of a famous band,a lovely down to earth fella, not getting a mention
The presenter would never have
heard of him
Alan passed on recently. RIP.
He'd left the band many years earlier. They moved on and acquired a new bass player .. bands do that. They don't mope about thinking about past members.
2:53 "Most of them played on three chords" I stopped watching this docu at this point, thank you. Said enough!
Just a jelous person who dont like Quo and jumped at the chance to step on their toes
rip rick
There's a lot to be said for straight forward rock and roll.
#Quo4Ever
I don't understand how a band has been successful for 40 odd yrs (@ when this doc was made), and are playing in really small venues, and crappy hotel rooms. You would think they would be playing in stadiums or arenas, and crashing in 5 * hotels.
Also, people who keep asking Francis about Rick's death, and saying he doesn't care, just because he doesn't publicly show any emotion about it, really should watch this. They both admit they love each other, but more tellingly, is Francis' 'wall' when being interviewed. He's been in the spotlight and interviewed too many times to air his real feelings in public. Maybe when he's alone he becomes sad sometimes over Rick, maybe not, but both are OK.
michelle88960 coz quo were only big in the UK and Europe mate
@michelle88960 That depends on how you measure success. Quo are still very successful, but they play only to their core fan-base and are making a very tidy living doing so. They make more money after one gig than what the average worker makes a year, believe it nor not. But if that makes them failures and losers to you, then so be it.
@@shapecatfilms7592 never did consider them loser never their awesome bro 7 months later lol
@@josephbuckley5961 I'm afraid my comment was aimed at michelle88960, and not your good self

They did alright in Australia too.
We love you guys!! Miss Rick so much!
Don't forget , Timmy Mallet had a massive fan following..
This was filmed during the time that ANDY BOWN was having personal problems.
Andy toured Australia in 2003.
Had a chat with them at an album signing in Sydney.
God bless Maureen, hey?
112 million records. Like to think so. But Source? Unless Inc. Singles Albums. Etc etc. Stones havnt managed that.
final straw for me at 2:54 with comment about "most of them played on 3 chords"...I'd let "Rick being a founder member of the band" mistake go as poor research and the comment about her friends laughing at the mention of Quo. Frame should have told her to bugger off at that point in the interview.
Hi
The clean quo tour
