I wonder if the bypass was ever built. I couldn't have stood those big trucks and endless cars roaring right by my front door for one day, much less the four years Phil suggested it might take to complete. Even with the bypass, the town's local traffic would still be right there all day and night.
All I can think is to build up on top of the brick wall out the front of the property 15:17 so the noise of the traffic would bounce off the wall. I have seen it done before with great results...Waiting for the bypass could take way too long. Plus one can always put small trees all along the inside of the wall in the courtyard, so it looks nice and green.
I thought that but the space between house and wall is minimal. The ideas would block out light but without viewing physically it would be difficult to determine to what degree.
Good double glazing does the trick
This is series 2 from 2001, so 21 years ago, house prices changed a touch since then!

I think they should have built a simple new house from scratch with all the space they need and do without the „character“. Would be the best for the family.
I'd consider laying spike strips...ok that's a fantasy. How about a series of four speed bumps? (All at different heights and odd distances between each.) You'd be hated by every trucker in England!!!! Might be worth it.

Every house interior looked like "Great Aunt Martha's" home. Even carpet in the bathroom and wallpaper on the door. Pokey, old houses, yuk.

The charm of the original show is lost with this new style. It used to be much more fun. You can't feel the amazing chemistry between Phil and Kirstie anymore. The funny off-camera commentaries between visits, gone. The feeling of struggling to find the right house and if the offers are going to be accepted, gone. Sadly, this is not entertaining enough to continue watching.
You know this episode is 21 years old? It's just the beginning of the series before they get warmed up
