@@mymonkeyandmydog I did that last year. It was way more educational than I thought it would be... Most museums shy away from such topics, so I think the people there are performing an important service and should be rewarded. Plus, cost was reasonable, IIRC. Props to you for giving them a shout-out!

When we Vegas usually 4 days. We have one show prepaid, one high end dinner and one cabana day w/ spa. The rest is just come whatever may. We try not to have to much planned. Only reason being is it let’s say we stumbled into something having fun gambling winning or whatever, then you look at the watch and say of we have to leave.

I’ve tried the $20 “trick” 4 times in Vegas each time it didn’t work so the 5th time I just asked nicely amd got an upgrade. When I told her she laughed & said it’s pretty played out & people do it like they’re in the know and the fact is atleast half the people she checks in try it. Tried to give her a tip regardless of the upgrade as she was really nice but she wouldn’t take it.
So my experience is 0% with the $20 & 100% from just asking

@@alamedabearcub1 I’m sure people have success with it, maybe the times I tried they were busy who knows. Great suggestions Jacob! As a Canadian who traveled solo to Las Vegas before the pandemic, something I like to do in the daytime is go clothes shopping off of the strip. We don't get a lot of brands in our country that you have in the US and the prices are great too. I know other Canadians that actually just come down to shop and the Vegas scene is a sidebar for them. There's great clothes shopping in your city. 👍😃

My partner and I was in Vegas a few weeks ago, and chose to rent a car, and get out in the City. We checked out a few subdivisions (for a possible move), drove and hiked around Red Rock Canyon (20 degrees cooler there, then in the City), toured the Mob Museum, toured the Neon Boneyard, visited friends that live in SW Vegas, and did a little shopping at the Premium Outlets. It was great to not spend so much time on the Strip, and just go around town and see what life is like there.

Not mentioned, but if you are visiting Las Vegas in a month with an "r" (i.e.: NOT the late spring or summer months, when it can get dangerously hot) a highly recommended day trip from Las Vegas is Death Valley National Park.
DVNP is about a 130 miles drive from LV. It'll take about 5.0 hours to drive a round trip to/from Death Valley; you should schedule at least 4.0 hours to tour the park and for other stops. Therefore, you had better leave Las Vegas fairly early in the morning (i.e.: around 8:00 am) in order to ensure returning to Las Vegas before sunset.
To say the least, services are sparse. You may wish to stop at a grocery in the Las Vegas area or Pahrump, NV to stock up on snacks and drinks. And, for goodness sake, make sure you start out with a full tank of gas.

You've got lots to lose in the $20 trick. Last summer I saw a couple try it next to me at the front desk. I was kinda peeking over as my front desk clerk stepped away so I was waiting for him to come back. They slid the money over between their drivers licence and a credit card. People saw and watched. The guy took the cards, and slid back their money saying no. They were rightly embarrassed as a quick look around saw everyone watching and smiling that it failed for them.

I just did the $20 trick at a mlife casino, Sunday check-in weekday stay so I know it’s not busy. I asked for a high floor, she exposed the $20 for the cameras and sounded enthusiastic to oblige. She was on the phone for 15 minutes to confirm if a particular room she had in mind was available yet. Got me excited when she hung up and said great news, I got you a room on the 18th floor (out of a 55 floor casino), kept my $20, and sent me on my way. I was very disappointed because my stay at the same casino before that I landed the 50th floor with fountain view and didn’t even do the $20 trick so it all depends on the front desk person if they want to help you or screw you.

Another error people make is not looking for deals or better values when it comes down to shopping or food purchases. Some individuals can get so lazy that they would pay the super inflated prices at a hotel shop for stuff like soda or snacks rather than walk outside to the strip and shop at the number Walgreens, cvs stores, ABC shops , even the tourist stores , where prices are a way better deal.

Another tip is to go downtown to buy your souvenirs. Most sell the same things but at a way lower price. The only reason to buy your souvenirs at the hotels is if you want one with that place's name on it. You can also get these souvenirs cheaper at those little shops that are located in the area by MGM, plus Walgreens sells a lot of them too. Bonus tip: If you like to get some bottled water or cokes to keep in your room, you should get those at those little shops, Walgreens, or downtown. You'll need a bank loan to get drinks (nonalcoholic) at the shops at the casino and they have very little variety.

Jacob is right. If you are a 1st time visitor to LV, by all means explore the strip end to end but try to get to the Fremont Street Experience at least 1 night! If you are a 2nd time visitor, do the same & try to hit all the sights & sounds you missed the 1st time plus add a show! Comedy or musical. If you are on your 3rd or more LV visit or if you are a regular, start wandering off strip! 3 Years ago I rented a car & took a day trip out to the Amargosa Valley. Area 51 territory! 2 Years ago I rented a car & drove out to Pahrump for 1 night just to play & see it! Whatever your interests, southern LV probably has it & it's cheaper + better odds off strip!

Thanks for all the tips Jacob. My wife and I just got back from Vegas about 3 months ago and did quiet a few of the things on your list. The Las Vegas Sign, Fremont St Experience, Bellagio Fountain Show, Mirage Volcano show, Gondola rides, Tapeface show, (none of the Circ shows were going because of COVID.) All buffets were shut down as well when we went :(. Rode the Manhatten Express. The horse back riding and red rock hiking sounds like a great idea next time we go have to put that one on the list. Saw Hoover Dam before. Seeing those big horn sheep (Rams) at that little park would be awesome next to the dam. Only thing I would add would be exotic car racing experience, Helicopter tour, and a major boxing match at MGM Grand. Or the dining show at Excalibur which was also shut down when we went :(. My wife and I wanted to also know what is the best dance club for nightlife. Is there one you prefer? Not big drinkers but love to dance. Is there a Elvis impersonator show in Vegas that is worth your time?

To hammer home your point about players club cards... I was planning my November trip and checked the website for the Luxor. (Yeah, I know it's not the best hotel anymore, but it's on my list.) I logged into my MLife account and found a comp for a free night. I have exactly ZERO MLife points. None, yet I got a free night comp. ALWAYS CHECK. Also, as a side note... IF you are ex-military you get a free one level rewards status promotion if you bring a copy of your DD-214. So if you are like me and have zero status, it'll immediately boost you to Pearl. If nothing else, that gets you free parking. Just a tip from a wannabee pro... ;)

Did something daily, but spent a lot of time just relaxing in the room. People say that rooms are just for sleeping and showering because you're just going to be out there where the action is. Walking around and acting the fool on the strip gets old.

Caesars properties also have the best price guarantee promise where if you find a lower published rate on one of their rooms they match that rate, and give you an additional 10% off the lower rate. We’ve also had many instances where we’ve booked hotels (mlife, Caesars and Cosmo) and then a month later the price drops and if you call them they’ll honor the lower rate. So it’s always good to book early but continue to watch prices after you book.

I have to disagree about the Buffet ; ever since the buffets shut down for a few months. The prices went up at the buffet. At the buffet at the MGM Grand Hotel it cost me about $ 40+ for 1 person.
Another mistake is not going to one of Gordon Ramsay's restaurants. Lol
I have been to Vegas 6 times now; 2 times before the pandemic and 4 times during the pandemic. My first time at Vegas I try to see and do as much as possible.
But now I just pick and choose what I would like to do or see; slowing down and taking my time exploring the Vegas Strip more thoroughly. For example next to the Park MGM Grand and next-door / close by the New York-New York Hotel I found a little Park area not directly connected to the strip.

I’m sure it’s in the comments but trying the food off the strip is way to go! Steak and buffets are the same anywhere in the world but there are some great ramen, Thai, Asian deserts and regular places to go.....spring mountain rd is the way to go!!!

I've never heard anyone use 'old Vegas' to refer to downtown as a place. Mostly it means the old Vegas vibe. Riviera and IP were old Vegas on the strip. Cosmo and Bellagio, not so much.

If you enjoy nature, Red Rock Canyon is wonderful. The first time I did the Las Vegas sign, the Klondike Hotel/Casino was still across the street. Huge improvements made since then.

Jacob, how come you UA-camrs never talk about Wynn Lake of Dreams as one of the free things to see? We have found ourselves watching more of those free shows compared to the Bellagio Fountains and the stupid mirage volcano that use to be cool and then they changed it to a boring musical. Don't get me wrong, everyone visiting for their first or 50th time should see the fountains. Mirage volcano should be seen at least once. Fremont shows use to be interesting but now they are just music videos. We love going to Vegas (about 3 times a year) but we really miss the pirate show at TI and the variety of the Fremont shows. Overall your video was great with really good advide. Keep up the good work.

Great video. I always rent a car when visiting Vegas. It is well worth the added expense. First of all, it gets you out of the Strip Casinos, and the City has so much to offer off the Strip. And yes, get the Players Card and put it into the machine, and the M Buffet is worth the trip South.

It's a good idea to get off the strip, but Uber/taxis are more efficient. Rentals are too much and then you have to think about parking, traffic, DD, etc...

glad you mentioned Mount Charleston that's one of my favorite things to do however I will not be able to do it at this time since it recently burnt down I used to go sit up in the bar up there and have a cocktail overlooking the scenic views… Also I used to stay at the Silverton until I had friends who moved out there now I stay with them..... One of the other things I do is go down on Nellis near Nellis AFB.... and if you're lucky on a day when they're practicing war games ....it's awesome to watch the fighter jets.....

We came to the BYU-ARZ Football Game at the "Death Star" last week. Stayed in the TRUMP. Arrived on Saturday morning at 2:00;am. Asked for a higher room. No $20 trick got the 45th floor. Looked north, but hey, it still was Great view during the night.
Given we're not gamers we did walk the strip but we also used the trams, and the mono-rail. We did go off-strip to see the NEON Museum. Highly Recommend that at night. We also went in to see Fremont Experience during a concert. Bad choice. 20k people there. We stinkiest lost my wife who went "exploring" without a cell phone. Bad choice.
Did in line for an hour, outside, for Tacos El Gordo's then inside for another hour. Well with the wait.
Get you water from the hotel. TRUMP gives it free, asking with the ice. Very attentive to detail.

Helicopter Rides via strip or further out. So much you can do to stretch your dollars and your experience!

I'm not in my room enough to get an up graded room, so the $20 doesn't do me any good. I got an up grade for free at Circus Circus the last time. The Valcano at Mirage is cool. I can't eat at a buffet for as much as they charge because it's too much food. Checking around at price is a really good deal.

It works! I tried it the first time at the sahara. Tip! Ask to at least have a window that lets in light and it's not covered because you need to at least see outside or say you have issues feeling trapped inside a box without a window. Idk make something up to change rooms and most important, be nice.
