Gina I feel like you sharing this with us... prepares and let's me know what to expect and see the curriculum with different eyes and perspective. I so appreciate your honesty and you actually showing us examples in the course book! A brilliant and honest review. Thank you so much for this. I feel more prepared now moving on to level 4 lol it's like you're my friend, and you're talking to me. I so appreciate your videos! ❤
This is SO validating… my son did SO well with level 3 last year. Level 4 is a whole other beast that is leaving me to start looking for something else. We clash EVERY lesson which should be my indicator it’s not working. So bummed.
@ashleypitcher5904 ugh, I'm so sorry. It is different from level 3, and although in the end, my son was okay and for level 5 is a breeze now ... I do think it would be of benefit to update level 4. Hope it gets better or you find something that works!
Gina, this was such a well done video! I loved how you showed one of the ending essays in level 3 compared to a beginning one in level 4. That was extremely helpful and it also helped me even though ive looked at the pdfs several times your video shared a great perspective!
How smart of him to ask you to read the book so you could see where he was coming from ❤. Writing has been a struggle for us too! We’re only on level 2, contemplating adding in an additional writing program.
Can’t wait to hear your level 5 in depth review! For my son level 4 didn’t work, but we’ll probably still use it for my daughter next year. Wondering if we should bring my son back for level 5!?
My son and I absolutely loved level 3! The readers were so good, his writing has came such a long way, and he has retained a lot of good grammar skills that he lacked before! I am so nervous about level 4, but like you said I am going to trust the process!
I'm excited for Level 4 now! So did you create or add a different spelling curriculum? My son struggles with spelling. I think it's the ADHD. I think he will need more of a traditional list to practice daily but haven't found a way to keep it from being overwhelming (for both of us).
So I am going to be focusing on spelling in the summer months. I had some problems getting back to my land in the winter where all my curriculum was because we were robbed visiting family. So due to all the craziness I wasn't able to start our new spelling curriculum... but we are back on our property and have the curriculum now.... I will be sharing a video soon on how I make spelling fun ... for now we are going to try and use spelling connections (it's a curriculum). Hope level 4 goes well for you and your son ❤️
Thank you for such an indepth review. What grade do you think TGTB gets less arts and crafts based? We lasted all of a month with level 1 math and language arts before we called it quits because everyday there was cutting and painting and gluing and we're just not those people.
You are so welcome! Hmmm... I'm actually finishing up level 1 math with my other son and currently on lesson 10 for level 1 language arts. When there is a project my son doesn't want to do we won't do it lol usually if there is paint involved he will want to do it but if he has to color something with crayons he doesn't want to do it lol. In level 3, I don't think there were too much crafts 🤔 but level 4, there were the pastels, probably like 15 projects the whole year... they have free pdfs online, so I would take a look at it. Because less arts and crafts might mean something different for me. I actually had to go take a look at level 1 because I was like, "there are a lot of arts and crafts?" 😅🤣 because it's an all in one curriculum.... it has different subjects incorporated into their language arts curriculum, so maybe you're looking for just a straight to the point language arts curriculum (which some kids prefer).
I also have a reluctant writer who just finished the 4th level. I honestly felt it was the “write” amount 😅. He did not love it, and would so much rather be doing math and science. But he also acknowledged it was 10 times better than a previous writing curriculum we had tried to use. Looking at level 5, I think he is going to enjoy it more. My kid also loves to cook, so while TG&TB does give some relevant recipes, I think I’m going to tap into that more for him after bigger writing projects, we make a recipe relevant.
I love that idea of the baking! And I think my son is very similar to yours... where it's not his fav subject but it's been working for him! Thanks for sharing your experience ❤️
I agree with the writing. I've had to do that with my child. Take an entire lesson focused just on the writing. My kid is not a strong writer so we had to work in steps.
I feel like me doing this has helped my son in his writing... and it's allowed him to be more independent now. Working in steps has definitely helped. Thanks for sharing your experience 😊 🙏
I don’t use their LA but thought it was interesting that they are going up to 8th grade. I am already thinking about middle school with my 9 year old but obviously not there yet. It is interesting to see how different every program is. We are using IEW as our language arts for now. We are journaling more to improve our writing (in a regular notebook).
@@lifewithginabI feel like sometimes I have to spoon feed my daughter so every writing assignment I find and every topic we are reading I make her write about in the journal. I feel like writing is a marathon and not a sprint.
@@lifewithginabyou give me hope though. You said that Nicholas is doing better and he is a year older than my daughter so hopefully we will get there. I sometimes think it is pure laziness on her part but other times I think it is just a skill that needs more patience.
@sarahe7515 Yes, I feel like as time goes on, I see really great improvements! I'm glad we can relate to one another (and encourage each other with our experiences) ❤️
I totally agree about having to deal with the 2 books! I disliked that when my daughter went through this a few years back and I wish they’d just combine the two and then split it into two books- one for each semester. My daughter didn’t love the books either. I really wish they’d update this grade thry did a phenomenal job with 3rd grade bc my son loved every book. I also hated having to flip back and forth looking for the spelling lists! So I think next year we will do our own spelling using another curriculum but still do the activities like you did.
I definitely think there is some improvements to be made on this level... so the transition and level of awesomeness can be comparable to level 3 lol its definitely not my fav level from the good the beautiful but also it's the most outdated one. We'll see if they update it in the future!🤞and I agree.. level 3 language arts is probably my favorite level ... the books were a game changer a long with everything else! 🙌
I was on the fence if we were going to use level 4. This video definitely gave me clarity... going to go with level 4! Thanks for sharing your honest review. I feel like I can really trust what you are saying. I feel like I watch other moms who work with TGTB and they never give constructive feedback and just love it all. Which maybe they do but I don't know... I just felt like you were super honest with what worked and what didn't. And I really appreciate that! Thanks again Gina ❤
We decided to stop tgtb language arts after level 3 with our second kid. The updated level 5 looks great but the middle school levels compare more to level 4. My oldest definitely ended up needing different writing and spelling instructions. Part of me wishes i could get the grammar, geography, and art section separately.
So they are updating their level 6 and 7... it should be released in 2025. And then also updating their highschool levels eventually. So I wonder if they will eventually update level 4... we will see! Thanks for sharing your experience ❤️
I love the updates to level 3, but level 4 is probably my least favorite. With all of the updates they've made, there's just too much of a jump from 3 to 4 now, in my opinion 🤷♀️ I have a love hate relationship with their constant updating... I have 6 boys and they are all reluctant writers. I found the writing portion of TGTB to be insufficient, so we opted to do a separate writing program and at level 4 and beyond I have them skip the writing portions. We would totally drop TGTB language arts altogether, but they love all of the rest of it, so we just do both.
@@lifewithginab We chose to go with IEW. My boys like a lot of structure, especially when it comes to writing. So far it has worked really well for us!
