The multi-platform/ multi-use functionality coupled with the great audio quality is exactly what makes it worth the extra value. You can use these on the street with your phone, to listen to music or as a headset (even with the mic boom detached you still have an internal mic), or at home wired or wireless with several devices simultaneously.

I agree with that but it depends if people need all of that and want to spend this much or get a cheaper headset which meets their requirements.

I've investigated this headset a little more and you were totally right. It's not worth the price tag:
    - It doesn't properly connect wirelessly to your PC (has no USB dongle), and for its Bluetooth connection, it uses a slow SBC codec, which creates a noticeably lower quality audio while wireless, regardless of where you're wirelessly connected to (PC, phone, whatever, which means you're going to be looking for a wired connection whenever possible, so this isn't a true wireless headset)
    - It also drains battery while plugged in via 3.5 mm jack.
    - So, basically, this is a wired USB headset. And, for that price, you might as well spend half your money on the standard EPOS H3 and spend the other half on a proper headset/headphones for your phone (for 100$ you will definitely find adequate products, but, at the 100$ price range, I would be going for a wired solution for good music quality on the phone ).
If you want a true wireless headset for your indoors gaming, with a USB low-latency USB dongle for PC (no Bluetooth) for the same price as this one, go for the GSP 370 instead, which actually works well wirelessly. It doesn't have Bluetooth but at least the GSP 370 has a proper low-latency wireless connection to your PC via the dongle (or wired if it needs recharging but it has a 100 hour battery life), so at least it does one thing very well, unlike this one.
For an improved version of the GSP 370, a wireless option that comes also with Bluetooth, you'd be paying considerably more for its big brother, the GSP 670. Over the USB-dongle connection the sound on the GSP 370 and GSP 670 is very similar, the GSP 670 being marginally better. Keep in mind the GSP 670 won't simultaneously pair the USB dongle and the Bluetooth so you are limited to one wireless connection at a time (As soon as you connect the USB dongle, the connection to the Bluetooth will be gone), but It does support high quality Bluetooth audio listening though, since it supports supports high quality codecs like AAC, aptX, aptX Low Latency, unlike the H3 Hybrid. Although the GSP 670 is even more impractical to wear outdoors than the GSP 370 because it's larger, and its battery lasting considerably less than the GSP 370. Also, the GSP 670 dangerously approaches the price range of another EPOS product which actually does more stuff than the GSP 670, and better, with a lot of added functionality, offering support for multiple simultaneous wireless connections, more robust connectivity to devices, and being additionally perfect to be worn outdoors, with your phone, without looking like a dork, one with really amazing tech features, which is the enterprise-level EPOS Adapt 660. This one is the perfect EPOS wireless headset, a true all round device, with an audio quality on par with the GSP 670 and more battery life. This one is the most expensive EPOS wireless headset of the bunch, but for good reasons.
All of these wireless headsets can be used wired in wired (and charging) mode. If you're not willing to forgo the bluetooth, the simultaneous multiple-device connectivity, the outdoors use, among other features, the EPOS Adapt 660 is the only choice, but if you can do without the bluetooth (and without using it outdoors), then the GSP 370 is a very high quality and cheap (basically half the price) wireless headset with 100 hour battery life and a sound quality very close to the 670 and the 660.
This "hybrid" EPOS H3 headset here is neither ideal while wired (USB) and even less wireless (bluetooth). It's never completely in its element.

Aren't these basically just the sennheiser GSP line headsets that they sold off?

Good question but Epos were Sennheiser so in a word they are but many of those GSP are more expensive than this.
