  • In this video I go over my glue pot and why it looks the way it does. If you are working with leather, then you have a glue pot as well and I would bet yours is much cleaner than mine.
Contact cement is an essential material for us in leatherwork and everyone has their preference as to the kind they use and the container they keep it in. This is mine.

People are crazy! That glue pot is a “badge of honor!” Shows your a real leathercrafter and your shop puts out work! I love the pot and glue table! Looks cool, wish I had enough leather work to make one! Great videos brother! Always learn a lot from you! And your help has made me some money with my leather work!

I noticed the glue pot the first time I watched his videos. Don's shop looks like it has a ton of character. Love it - keep it.

Your glue pot is a badge of honor. Respect the glue pot. Like a cobbler with a worn down hammer... I only hope to use up as much glue as you do in a month, in a year. Great stuff. I'm still new to leathering and only have one video on it on my channel. I love your work.

Barge glue fumes are heavier than air, so I built a box with a peg board base hooked up to a fan that sucks the fumes out of the bottom of the box and delivers them outside like a clothes dryer vent. It is good for airbrushing small projects too. Thanks for the videos, Don.

Don, excellent videos! I've learned more from your ebooks, videos and articles then anything else I've read/seen. If you get some time, would you be able to make a video to go with your undercuts article? That would be super helpful. Thanks for all of the great instructions

ROFL I see people coating cardboard in a quart of glue now to mimic yours. The pot looks great to me. It shows use and is an interesting but still functional conversation piece for the shop.

Also Makers has a nice glue pot that seals and you can move the brush up and down with your glue level. It’s my favorite I’ve used by far.

Sir, I think your "glue pot", as well as your "glue table", show a lot of "character", ... no need to apologize for anything.
Thank you Sir, for your sharing of your hard work.

My first mentor had a similar one and I loved the build up he had on it. My second mentor at the moment has one with some build up but he also uses squirt tubes. Like a little bottle with a nozzle at the end to apply thin lines of glue. And as for me, I really haven’t found something that works for me but I’ll probably get a pot

I realy like you glue table and this is what I did with it (OCD)! I copied your idea with the cardboard however, after installing the cardboard on the surface I rolled my glue over the top with a cheap roller.letting each coat dry. and after a few coats it's looking pretty good! You are right, your leather does not slide around so much! I wouls recomend it! I enjoy your tutorials and you work, keep it up!

Don, I just don't get with the complaints about your glue pot gee's how petty can you get . Personally I like it, gives the shop a since of roughness like it should have when making saddles . As to to your glue up table well it's your glue up table I'll leave that for you to deal with . Happy trails young man

I got myself one of those glue pots, but instead of ATCO there is a text of VIETNAM its probably a faux one but i didn't bother so much to get back to the guy i bought it from but weeks later my pot had solid glue inside. I heard you mention you did a bit of glue around the edge; is that really the case or do u think its because my pot is fake?

Hell man that's a 1 of a kind collectors item. Just think if you use it for 5o years you sure won't see 1 anywhere else. LOL. Good conversation piece. You know come to think about it, that glue on that pot looks kind of like some of those crazy cheese covered hamburgers that you see on them eating shows on TV. LOL.

There's nothing like the brand of glue to rekindle a heated debate on leatherworker.net . I'm a Weldwood man myself and next time the debate comes up I'm just going to say that's what Don Gonazels uses and if it's good enough for him, by God and sunny Jesus it's good enough for me. No, it won't be the definitive statement on glue as somebody from the Barge camp will come back with Al Stohlman used Barge. Then it will be, "Yeah but Al Stohlman never made any videos" which will be countered with "So, Don never authored any books" and we'll point out that Don has a beard and they'll say Al could have become a professional whistler... It never ends.

Those VOCs in the glue cannot be good for your lung . I wonder if there ever was a study done on leather workers to see how many quit early due to medical issues.
