Also call back to her first scene in this movie - pretending to have been captured and interrogated by anonymous bad guy, while actually extracting information from them instead.
Black Widow is so underrated... She got the best scene of the entire movie, here. And in Endgame, too (the "I'm still trying to be better" scene). She deserved a much better send-off...
I too love this scene but have always had it in mind mostly just as an example of Joss Whedon's superlative skill and intelligence as a writer and director* However, seeing quite a few of Scarlett Johansson's recent Endgame press interviews - and videos like yours and The Ponderer's - all with their associated clips from the films, has made me reassess my position. I now have far, far more appreciation of what Johansson has brought to the role over the years and also appreciation for how the MCU has managed to flesh out a character that I saw as something of an also-ran when I was reading the comics as a kid. Her performance in Engame is pretty stunning, too. Excelsior and applause all round. * which, of course, it still is!
One part that I liked about this scene was the subtle feints to the other people. Her part about making a name and not caring how her skills were used could be a reference to Stark. Her part about being Russian and not caring about regime change could have been a hook to Captain America. Then came the talk of the monster and Loki took the bait. Of course, this is only my opinion, but I think it further enriches the scene.
I always knew this was a good scene but I never payed attention to the body language before now and how much it plays into the power dynamic shifting. Great video!!
Anyone else hear Loki say “What” out loud even though the audio cut out in that scene. Guess it’s just my memory because I watch that great movie so much 😶
I forgot how much I loved this scene, thanks for covering it! It even tied into her first scene of this movie, Nat feigning vulnerability to the mob boss at the beginning. Both scenes tell the audience everything we really need to know about the her and I love it.
@@MisterH37 That's true. But that's just because of Nat's self-loathing - she believes that she's a monster, who could never become a good person. But that self-loathing is Nat's character flaw, and it's not something that the movies should present as true.
If it only happened because of her belief, then it is not inevitable. She could have easily learned to believe something else, and then her fate would have been different. Which would have made for a more satisfying end to her arc, I think.
I didn't expect to see a One Marvelous Scene about this scene, but I'm glad you talked about it because it's such a great scene for Natasha. The video was fantastic as well.
B. Widow, the heroine the MCU needed, and didn't appreciate. Damnit I haven't liked Danvers since 1999, and she's what we're stuck with now. Hopefully the prequel will make it a point that we've NEVER heard Natasha's birth accent. She's Russian but tell me any line where she sounds like it. The only Russian sounding thing I recall her ever saying is her pronunciation of Budapest. It used to bug me but then I thought, this is Black Widow. The ultimate spy. She should be able to mimic accents well.
In an episode of Agent Carter, they show the Black Widow school where the girls are taught English since childhood by repeating lines from Disney movies, accent and all. Cool and creepy. Btw., the old-generation Black Widow in that show is also awesome.
My favorite scene was the Gamora and Nebula scene at GOTG 2 because I relate to it so much, my sister focuses on her career and sometimes forget about our family. Our family is similar to them because we only have our father and our mother died a long ago. Since then my sister became competitive and forgets about our family a lot because she focuses on something else when we are the only one she have left.
Yo this is an interesting pick. I did a Natasha scene as well. I think she's a very underrated character tbh. Great analysis of the scene, and I made sure to subscribe. Keep up the great work!
Great choice - hours have been recorded about the relative strengths of the MCU movies. You point out one of the less appreciated aspects - good writing, good acting and good direction.
Also, if you think about it, Loki's lines questioning Natasha could work equally well on himself. Bargained a world for one person, jotunhelm and Odin, as he sees himself. What are you now? Is he Aesir or Jotun? Can you wipe out that much red? He has red on his ledger too. Can *he* wipe it off? A man no more virtuous than yourself. About Odin and Thor, in his twisted memory. Bases sentimentality, a child's prayer. Could refer to him during Thor 1. What he sees as a weakness now, something he wants to get rid of. Lie and kill, in service of liars and killers. Again fit for himself, how he sees it in his distorted mind.
Thx 😘 this scene is one of my favorites and rewatched a lot. one more thing is that "you brought the monster" could mean three things here, Loki might not be talking about Banner. After Thor 1 he more or less refer to himself, a Jotun, as a monster. He could be just talking about himself, referring to them bring him up onto the helicarrier where he can influence them. And is genuinely surprised that Natasha guessed out about Banner, which is indeed his plan. And he could also hint at Thanos here, as SHIELD's experiments on the Tesseract draws the monsters to Earth, he's merely the one leading them.
Don't need to push it, though. If you're just comfortable with it, then just some music in the background goes a long way. I didn't mind the monotonous sound
Okay, WOW. Glad Dr. Hope linked to you. I always hated this scene in the original because I felt like it was a waste of time - Loki does exactly what he was planning and all her manipulation was (imo at the time) for nothing. I never even saw the body language which suddenly makes this a fantastic faceoff and now I can appreciate it as on of my favorite scenes in future viewings. Thanks!
I've been going through this play list and you are the first one to use my favorite character (Loki). I am so disappointed not to have scene his confrontation with his father in the first Thor movie in the playlist yet. It is my all time favorite scene, and the one where Thor is banished is right behind. This is probably my third one, because yes, he is bested. He is confused. And it shows he's not just arrogant. He's manipulative, calculating. And unfortunately, at that moment? Heartless. Great choice
I've always loved this scene and I could never put my finger on why it was so great, now I know. Such an interesting video! I found you through Dr Ed Hope's channel, I'm definitely going to stick around for more :D
Honestly I always thought that Loki gave that information on purpose, knowing that Shield would react with fear toward Banner and that Banner doesn't trust them, just so that he can would drive them apart. I always thought that she got played.
I hate how everyone misinterprets this scene as Natasha tricking Loki into revealing that the Hulk was the secret weapon. The god of mischief people, and what happens in the end? The Hulk is used to cause chaos on the ship. Loki is not fooled here, it's a double bluff. If Natasha thinks that she's outsmarted Loki, she's not going to suspect that she's been played.
I highly doubt that because Loki just needs Banner to be near the sceptre for his plan to work. You also have to take into account that this scene is a payoff for the interrogation scene that introduces Black Widow into the story. Also the look of confusion from Loki at the end of the scene is genuine he has been outplayed in this instance.
The name Red Skull uses is different to what Loki says, Drakov’s Daughter doesn’t necessarily have to relate to who her parents are. If it does, Drakov could be a codename or piece of info that Nat knows about her father rather than his actual name. Remember Loki only knows what Hawkeye has told him. She can know of her father but not know who he actually is.
Yes, someone else did a Nat scene! High five!
Hello there! I'm hyped for her solo film because of great scenes and character moments like this and the one you covered in your video Ponderer.
Also call back to her first scene in this movie - pretending to have been captured and interrogated by anonymous bad guy, while actually extracting information from them instead.
Watch to the end of the video 😉
That's foreshadowing
I love that opening scene; especially the exasperation of Natasha when she tells Coulson "But he's about to tell me everything!"
Beating the literal god of lies at his own game. I always found this the most badass scene in the entire film.
"Your world in the balance and you bargain for one man"

Tony, Vision, Nebula, Thor
Black Widow is so underrated... She got the best scene of the entire movie, here. And in Endgame, too (the "I'm still trying to be better" scene). She deserved a much better send-off...
Scarlett consistently killed it when she was on screen all the way back to Iron Man 2. Black Widow Forever!

She is so good in Endgame! Her arc tied the film together for me. Thanks for the insightful comment 😊

Wow!! Incredible catch
And in the end, Natasha not only balanced her books, but we are in her debt.
I always knew this was a good scene but I never payed attention to the body language before now and how much it plays into the power dynamic shifting. Great video!!
Thanks!

Weaponized exposition.
this is the best analysis in one marvelous scene along with lessons's one
This has made my day! LFTS is one of the UA-cam Channels that made me decide to start making videos. THANK YOU!
I think we can say definitively that Natasha's Red ledger has been wiped clean. Soulfully.
Her ledger has already been wiped clean back in 2012 & 2015...
@@guyr3618 I don't think Nat agrees.

This is an excellent breakdown of the scene. There's a lot of forethought in their body language!

@@RPG_Angie Dottie. That magnificent crazy bitch. I was almost instantly in love. Bridget Regan is fantastic.
Love this scene, at the end Loki was like
"I don't... give... everything."
NATASHA IS THE BEST AVENGER WOOP
God I forgot how hilarious that 'regimes' line was. Great vid. Consider me subbed.
Bro! Here from Dr. Hope - LOVE THIS!
I love this playlist idea because I'm always looking for new analysis channel to watch. And you did a great job here, so I will happily subscribe.

Don't worry my child. They're obviously fake spoilers.
This is why heath ledger joker is better than loki.
Sam Gourhan I’m pretty sure joker whould have found a way out and killed a nice amount of shield agents
Ledger's Joker couldn't motivate a bunch of hardened criminals to kill some innocents to literally save their own lives.
This is just you taling the whole time. Im out.
