Thanks!
I was starting to look online about buying a replacement receiver.
But your video’s guide to clearing/resetting brought my unit back to life and saved me a hundy and a couple hours of time
Wow I had new receiver in my cart. Tried this. It worked. You saved me $400.00
Sweet! Glad it worked for you!!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I feel asleep last night and my girlfriend tried to turn off the reciever and tv by pressing the buttons on the remotes over and over and over again. At work today I got a call from her saying the tv had no picture and she couldnt figure out why. With your help resetting the reciever did the job. I try to take her through everything, and I mean everything, I do so she knows what to do if I were to die or something. Speaker wire, connections, hdmi, ps5, roki, etc etc etc. Anyway thank you so much you saved me a huge fight and a huge headache. You are awesome my friend!
Glad it helped! And saved you a headache!
After an hour of trying to figure out a proper troubleshoot this video saved me. Thank you!
Awesome!
Thank you for posting this video. My STR-DH1050 would stop making sound at random intervals and finally wouldn't stay on at all. Stopped using it for a month or two. Tried it again for a few minutes yesterday and it worked. Then I found this video and tried the factory reset and it worked all day yesterday. Thanks !
That’s great to hear! Glad it helped!!
10/10 vid!
I have another sony receiver model (STR DH130) and it just turned off while listening to music and making unusual clicking noises.
I did this (hold power button when off), waited for the "clearing/cleared" and works fine now. Really weird, but cool to know if it happens again.
I guess this seems like a general "reset option" for sony receivers/amps. Probably works for a lot of models.
Edit: Your vid was my first result on google ;) So a lot of people clearly seem to like this vid.
Great!! Glad it helped!!
After what seemed like two hours of frustration and trying to figure out why my Sony STR-DH750 would not produce any audio at all, I started to research... Took me a while to find this video, but the first solution got it. I did have to reset all the EQ settings and speaker pattern and so forth, but it helped me get it going. Thank you very much for this.
Great!!
I have an older Sony Tuner/Receiver (STR-DE197). Speakers suddenly went silent. I was about to buy a new Sony ($400) when I saw this video. Solution 1 worked like a champ. 7 seconds and I saved $400. On my receiver the display is "Initialize". Thanks.
That’s great!!! So happy that this helped you!
😀😀
After an hour of trying to figure out a proper troubleshoot this video saved my butt by doing the clear option for 7 seconds on my My STR-DH1080 Thank you!
Oh that’s awesome. Glad it helped.
The reset for 7 seconds worked! I have the 550 but still worked. Thank you!
Great!!!
The reset worked with my issue. ARC had no audio output though the receiver acknowledged input. Thanks!
@@seanfrye5296 awesome 😎
THANK YOU! The 'clearing' worked. Saved me from purchasing a new receiver.
Sweet! Glad it helped!!
I have a similar Sony receiver and the spk off wouldn’t switch on with the speaker button, but the reset worked like a charm. Thank you so much!!!
Hey that’s great!! Thanks for letting me know!!!
Dude, thank you! I was getting up with our Sony as the posrts gradually stopped working. Before tossing it, I thought I'd check some videos. The 7 second clearing worked! All ports work again. Cheers brother!
Hey that’s great!!!
The only question I have is. After performing the seven second reset to the software. Does that affect the set initial up for the calibration of the speakers, and other like Syns, HDMI, Speaker Level and Volume Level and the rest?
OMG, the first suggestion worked, and my system is the STR DH550!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I should have come to YT first! Sony website was useless!
Awesome!
Your a life saver I was about to start disassembling the receiver when I tried the software reset , that fixed the no audio and video output. Just had to do the relearn on the speaker volumes. Thanks
Great!!!
Thank goodness your information saved my day. The first one pressing and releasing. I can connect my phone via Bluetooth and connect to the speakers 👍😄
Great!!!
Software reset immediately fixed my issue where only the front speakers were putting out music. Thank you dor your video, sony's website was not helpful in the slighest
Great! Glad it helped!!
Solved my problem of the front speaker volumes being unbalanced. Thanks so much!
Great! Glad it worked!!!
Thank you ,good video.I was having issues with a surround speaker not working, did a reset and it works. The only thing is after the reset the levels are so low I have the volume at 65 to watch TV and I can not get the Sony to display on my TV to adjust anything threw the arc!? I miss the days of having full control on the front !
Great tip! The software reset did the trick. Thanks 👍
Great!!
🌟 Much Appreciated mate! 1st solution worked and checked to see if any of the speaker wires were frayed. Plus an adjustment of keeping the receiver power cord elevated&away from other wire connections.
Hi, first tip sorted the problem out and saved me from disconnecting all the wires,, thanks a lot
Great!!! Glad to hear that!! Thanks for your comment.
Totally worked dude, thanks. Just make sure you all have the calibration mic handy, for after the hard reset set is complete. Rock on ;)
Thanks so much that first solution worked for me using optical cables on an STR DN-850. Much appreciated!
That’s great to hear! Thanks for your comment
That last tip from Sony.Don't put much faith in it.Friend, that works as a tech.Repairing these receivers that's just something that tell you to get you off the line when they have too many CALLS Waiting.
Wow bro. Good looks. I got another sony and it worked for me. First I thought it was my Hisense tv until I turned the TV sound up when the sound went away.
I had an issue with intermittent rear speaker sound loss even with test tone it sometimes worked and sometimes not, i have model STR-DB930 and it went into demonstration mode and reset to factory and its working perfectly now. Lucky i came across this video because i was about to buy a Denon instead for 500 quid. Misses would of killed me this close to christmas 😂
That’s great I am so glad it helped you!!
I had trouble connecting my blueetooth devices, i was seeing str dh-590 on my iphone but it wasn’t connecting, the software rest solved my issue. Thank you so much🙏🏻
Thanks the reset helped me. My System stopped showing video and i had it for a while.
Great! Glad it helped!!!
I hope this will work for me too. I'm gonna try it when I get home. I thank you in advance for this video.
Good luck!
@@ApacheRanch Well it did not work for me. But I did found the culprit.
My receiver kept switching on, a few minutes after switching off my ShieldTV, Receiver and TV, and then a minute later it switched off again.
What I found was that one of my subwoofers has an auto off function that was enabled. After I've turned that off, the receiver did not turn back on again. Anyway, I've enjoyed your video and learned a few things about my receiver along the way. So thanks for that.
You just literally saved my life. Thanks!!
Glad it worked!!!
I think tech support from any company just makes shit up because I get actual results from doing my own research online with posts like these
First Team!
Brother thank you for the power down reset. I have music AGAIN!!👍❤
You are so welcome
Thank you very much for sharing this. The power button trick worked for me! Lifesaver!
Ty sir. This worked so far for my dh770
Awesome!!
I checked very component in the receiver many time still can not fix buzzing problem. have to go back to original setting. This video helps. Sony updated software is not good.
Thank you
Wow that first step reset did the trick i wasn't getting aound from optical now i do thanks
Great!!
Awesome - thanks! Software reset fixed it instantly.
Thanks! I was having a Bluetooth connection problem and the software reboot fixed that issue too
Great to hear that!!
Great video. Nice Sony receiver. Glad you fixed it.
Thank you, this was very helpful
Glad it helped!
Thanks. The first reset resolved my issue.
Glad it worked!!!
My 590 suddenly started spontaneously lowering the volume control to "minimum." My wife, the chronic TV viewer in our household, started reporting this when she watched UA-cam via our Roku unit but not the other programs. Not only did the volume control turn itself down to minimum, but it refused to budge from that value through the remote control or even when I manually tried to increase the volume with the "big knob." I just tried your software reset and I'll report back if it works or doesn't. Thanks.
Very interested to hear if this works for you!! I wish you the best! Please report back!
@@ApacheRanch Well, nuts. I tried the reset twice and the receiver is still spontaneously taking the volume down to nothing.
If you are using the volume controls through a third party remote (Roku, FireTV) that you synch’d with your 590, the problem may be with that remote sending an overlapping signal that impacts volume. I have this problem on a Pyle receiver which on occasion will switch HDMI inputs when I press volume up. Seems the IR signal is overlapping. If you do resolve this, please let us know.
@@ApacheRanch When my wife first demonstrated the problem, the first thing I did when I tried to get it to happen again was put the remotes where they not only weren't accidentally used but where they had no possible chance to effect the receiver (totally bagged and tagged). Not only are the remotes (the Sony or the Logitech) part of the problem, you can't get the receiver to increase the volume either with the remote or the front panel volume control without restarting the receiver.
@@keithwilliams88 Interesting. The next time it happens, I'm going to just turn off the Roku unit and see if that changes anything. My $19 Roku unit is the "smartest" device in the living room and it had been working fine for a long time before this problem appeared. In fact, it didn't start happening until my wife "discovered" the UA-cam channel. I have reset and powered down everything involved and the problem has been reduced to just occasionally turning the volume down, but it is no longer constantly locked in the volume-off position.
the first reset worked! thanks
Push & hold worked for me. Left channel wasn't working. Wish I hadn't thrown out that 250 watts per channel Sony that had same problem. This worked on my 100 watts per channel.
Glad it helped!
New subscriber here. Have owned my Sony 7.2 for about a year. I don’t use it to switch video feeds but merely play the audio from my Sony TV via optical audio interface. I am having clicks and might just try your suggestion. Also I am trying to focus audio toward the back of the room more and am looking for tips on that as well. Thanks again for your video. All the best.
Have you been able to increase the output sound level in settings for your rear speakers?
@@ApacheRanch I haven’t been able to increase back speaker volume. Where would that setting be? I am also trying to find a manual for the receiver.
Your first solution worked. Thanks so much!
Great! Glad to hear that!!
You sir are a legend for this
Thanks I thought I had to get a new receiver
Great glad it helped!
Holy crap thank you!! I thought mine was busted for sure and it’s working from the first fix
That’s great that you saved it!!
Thanks bro it worked I was stressing out today on it
Glad it helped!!
Thx, worked instantly !
That is great to hear!
Wow thanks so much it reset a fault on the arc HDMI connection
Great!! Glad it helped!!
I just bought this receiver, and now I'm regretting it... 😢
Worked like a charm. Thanks a lot!
Great!
Did the hold and reset. That worked. Sound is back on.
Great! Glad it worked!!
Fun Fact, this fixed my center channel on my Sony STR-DH750
Replying to myself because i forgot to Say thanks in the above comment
Great! Glad it helped!!
This is helpful thanks! My Pioneer Elite is doing some weird shit but it's very inconsistent.
Which model you you have I have a old elite one which I love 2 Chanel works great but when I put in surround sound mode it sound like Rice Krispie
@@rerondon1 Pioneer Elite SC-LX701, it hasn't made any weird noises lately but yeah same. It was like static or sometimes almost no noise at all from one channel. Right now it works.
The 2 things I did was: Separated power cables from signal cables, tried to not run them side by side or on top of each other. I learned that from cheapaudioman on UA-cam. I also replaced my HDMI cables with Infinity Cables. I watched a Linus Tech video on HDMI cables and some cheap ones are really actually trash. Infinity Cables and Amazon Basic cables passed all test and was rated highly.
So far, no issues. Maybe try separating your power and signal lines to start.
Ok thank u
My Sony receiver is model str-km5 when I switch on subwoofers humming, but after a few minutes, it disappeared. I tried at different sockets, switched off appliances, and checked audio cables, but it seems that coming from the receiver, thanks
Any tips on connecting a replacement remote?
Mine quit working after it began making periodic popping/static noises. Now it will not work at all. Tried the reset but nothing. Have it all unplugged and will let it do a hard reset as you suggested but I doubt it will work.
Good luck!
I have the 190 series. I've resetted mine so many times because it would just power off constantly, and still having issues. I think it's time to junk it because I'd rather pay for a new one (with a DIFFERENT BRAND) than to pay more just to fix the issue since I'm not a fix-it guy. Sony is starting to piss me off with their products lately as of December 2022. The covid crap and overseas shipment issues don't help either! Unless there's another fix you or anyone else out there knows about that would be great. But I did all the steps from other repair videos out there on YT to no avail. ☹
The clear worked for my system! Thanks!
Tried to reset and it did not work. The weird part is that FM radio works out of 2 speakers but noting else. Any ideas?
Reset worked! Thanks
Great!!!
I'm hoping you might know why I am not getting a signal from the pre out of a Sony st-dg800 receiver into my power amp. I'm guessing there must be some selection for sending a digital or perhaps analog signal to the pre out that I can't figure out how to use.
Wow. I was looking to upgrade my STR-DN 1030 but I've never had an issue with my receiver since I purchased it in 2013.. I'll wait another 5yrs to buy anything electronic: thanks covid.
Know how many wires I have connected to my receiver? Lol
Exactly!
Found my problem ty so much! had to clear it
That’s great! Glad it worked for you! Thanks for your comment
Thanks! It's works!
Great!!
I will try this soon. My issue is that i just hooked this up and the only time it shuts off is when i play a movie or tv from my computer that i downloaded. It will play anything internet related no problem. But when i try to play a downloaded file, it will shut off completely. Ive never seen this before. I hope this works.
thanks, first method worked for me!!
That’s great to hear!!! Thanks for letting me know!
I need help, the hdmi out on my reciever creates red dots on my tv screen I don’t know why or what to do. Please see this
Does this work on older Sony receiver with out HDMI? I have a Sony receiver model STR DE825 with the same problem. It's a 1998 model Sony receiver that you need to turn it on for 1 to 2 hours before it will sound.
Couldn't hurt to try. You machine sounds like you have a bad connection that make contact after heat expands the solder or something. If it's a 1998 you did good to make it this far!!! I wish you the best.
Hi. I have a STR DE 598 and it keeps poping and showing protect. I diconnected everything before I saw your video and it still says Protect. Also : this happened after a lightning strike 1 block away. Are they related? Thanks
Could have been a power surge. You might want to open the cover and check if there is a circuit breaker or fuse inside? I wish you the best.
I have this exact receiver and I have been having issues for almost a year where the system will start turning on and off. It will be playing/streaming audio or video and turn on and off over and over again until I pull the power plug. It will happen on both blue tooth and through HDMI . I have removed rewired the speakers to be a more secure/clean connection, I've removed the speakers to start narrowing down if it is the speakers or not. It keeps happening. It started shortly after the warranty expired. As always with today's products.
noticed the 770 was not on the list, though it looks identical to some of the others before/after it. should i assume your solution will work with the 770 as well?
It can’t hurt to try. Worst case it just doesn’t respond to the reset.
I've replaced all the finals and output resistors. There is no sound output. I hope that the reset procedure is my fix. Is there ANYONE out there that has a spare 3-position Red & Blk speaker quick connect part that I can buy from them? Mine is damaged and needs another one. Thank You.
what resistors are that mn2488 p ?
Center speaker does not work. Left front speaker does not work
Right surround speaker not working.
Error 33F.
E32 Pressent is also displayed.
Klinkt dit iemand bekend in de oren? Speakers zijn allemaal 6 ohm.
This worked! Thank you!
awesome!!
Great vid..!.. I have 4 speakers, I pressed the Front Surround button on the remote and now i cant get my back speakers to turn back on... ANy idea how i can get them all 4 back on..?
There is static noise when it`s turned on.
is this normal? if not, how to fix it? thanks.
Not normal
You are the man!
How do i fix stuck on clearing problem ?
Not sure? Pull power and retry?
Very helpful, Thank you
Glad it helped!!
Hey I used to pair withe Bluetooth al the time and have all the same issues listet above. Now only thing I can do is to disconnect everything and do a clearing again. but stil dont work , i wonder if i change the mn2488 p power transistor or it will work or not ? or is it something els i have to change i dont know parts are hard to get in the EU 😔 i have a str-dh590
The receiver worked fine for the first couple of days. But now The video signal from my Xbox keeps cutting in and out from receiver. If Xbox is directly hooked up to TV it works fine. I did use the same HDMI cable for both previously mentioned scenarios. I cleared using the first method and went through setup thinking it was fixed but once I choose any input from receiver it keeps going in and out of signal.
I have a the DH 790 and the Dolby Atmos isn't working correctly. Only the Front surround. I'm watching 4k bluray disc of the Movie Dune. I'll try your method
I have the 790 also and it is a huge piece of trash. It worked well for a few months and then all sorts of problems popped up, like, no sound at all, or no video at all, then I'll fix it and then BAM no sound at all so right now I am so pizzed off I cant stand it and yes the warranty has passed. But seeing that many people have experienced audio problems it appears that the name of Sony has gone down the toliet, IMHO.
Check whatever you're outputting from is outputting to the receiver first. I had no sound and after resetting the receiver and reseating all the cables i found that my htpc was outputting sound to the headphone jack and not to the receiver😂
I recommend do not use the HDMI input. Because cause damage to the receiver. It's better use digital coaxial. I had problem when I used HDMI in my things and now I only use rca or digital connections. And I have no problems any more
Thank you so much!
Glad it helped!
Reset mine but it's sets itself to Dolby digital plus which is 7.1 and my back speaker are barely hearable
My sony dav dz-650 all of sudden cant play sound when i connect to bluetooth and i see weird words from receiver display when it connected, by using this method will it work?
Give it a try! It might work
@@ApacheRanch i discover its error called 'protect' appears on my receiver do you know the best way to solve this?
Why does my say md.dst.unfix when I try to reset the receiver
Hello, I have a older model sont receiver model da5600es, I just did a memory clearing an now it won't clear, now the stereo receiver worked great til I did this I only did this memory clearing to clear out the previous owners programs. Please help? Thanks.......
My sony str-dn1070 stuck in “clearing” mode and do nothing else. Any suggestion?
So if it is isolated to the HDMI cord and I already replaced the cord and it stopped working the next day do I need a special cord?
Not sure. But not all HDMI cords are same quality. I’ve had several that didn’t work as expected.
@@ApacheRanch I’ve got two 50 foot 2.1 cords I replaced the old one and it worked for a day Now the new one doesn’t work and the second new one doesn’t work either. Bluetooth works so i’m assuming it’s the HDMI arc slot on the tv or the sound system.
That’s a huge pain. I hope you figure it out. Please let us know what ends up being your solution!!
Mine was connecting to my tv to watch tubi app but after a while it stopped paring audio from my tv to the reciever.
Not sure… try the resets and see if that helps? Maybe something in your TV end?
