What a joy to see this! My young friends and I used to watch this back in the day and never missed an episode. We even created our own 'home version' for many hours of fun. Thanks for posting!
Oh thank you so much!!! I’ve only seen two episodes of the show, the pilot and another episode. I wish there were more. But I’m so glad to find a new one (to me anyway). It’s shows like this that I wish I could make a comeback.
Interesting! It's a rare show all right! I've never heard of it, and I'm a huge classic TV buff. Anyway, thank you for the upload! I love watching the old "What's My Line" episodes from the 1950s on UA-cam, so I was definitely interested to see this!! Again, many thanks!
Thank you a MILLION times over for posting this. Don't figure out my age, but I remember watching this program on my days off from school--this was when the quotidian television fare consisted of game shows, daytime dramas (a/k/a soap operas), and reruns of popular television programs, particularly situation comedies. I also give thanks for the glory of You Tube.
Awesome, Thank you for uploading this. My brother, Dolf, was born January 21, 1961, one day after JFK was inaugurated and 15 days after this episode aired.
Thanks for posting this ( with the Original Commercials in tact ) i watched the one that was posted sometime back from ( i believe ) 1969 with the 2 ladies playing against each other. This one was way before James did the Marble Machine. please post more of these if availible.
Also, because of the Quiz Show Scandals, the FCC made it illegal to have corporate sponsor names directly displayed during the program (panel shows were exempted for a time, before this practice ended by around 1963).
I vaguely remember this game show. Probably watched it, as a kid. It APPEARS to be a parody of "The Price is Right"; which at the time (1961) was an enormously popular game show, with host Bill Cullen. NOTE that Art James mentions Montgomery Ward --- a venerable retailer from yesteryear.
Where on earth have you found these kinescopes? Thank you for posting them, though. This was one of my favorite game shows when I was a little kid. I had the home version too and played it with my family. About 15 years later, I was a contestant on the 3W's with Art James. He was a great host.
Art James was a great host. It is so sad that so little of his work survives. I was also a big fan of The Who, What, or Where Game. Would LOVE to see more of those.
Well, Ivan Ditmars had other instruments in his LMAD Orchestra besides a guitar, but it was very predominant. With Say When, it was just Carmen Mastren and his guitar. Quite a unique sound.
How about that? Aired precisely 25 years to the day before the $1 million COAL premiered. Also Bruce Forsyth's Hot Streak. (Not to mention 1-6-61 is a palindrome.)

Thank you for sharing these gems!
A new episode of Say When! Thank you so much! Art James would be surprised.

I remember this episode! I was in first grade, and was home sick with the Chicken Pox.
I used to have thr home game, pretty fun!

This reminds me of Pass the Line, one of the deadliest game shows ever.

This is the first time I see this game show, really neat, has a good pace, makes you think in a restricted time format, I think it would work today
I turned 8 years old on that same day. Now I'm 70. My gosh!
Wayne Howell not only did this show, but he was the voice of Concentration in its later years and the Miss American Pageant for many years.
Wow - great find. Sustaining, which is interesting.
This episode has paid commercials--not sustaining.
@@tomservo56954 Sorry - thanks for clarifying!
The program had commercials, but there was space to insert local commercials to the program.
Also, because of the Quiz Show Scandals, the FCC made it illegal to have corporate sponsor names directly displayed during the program (panel shows were exempted for a time, before this practice ended by around 1963).
@LaptopLarry330 And the network would run a promo/PSA if the local station didn't cut away because it didn't sell the time.
This is edge of your seat excitement! LOL

You can kinda see the scanline separating the middle of the screen of this kinescope.

It reminds me of price is right pricing pick a pair or bonus game
16:05 😂😂😂😂😂😂 just my sense of humor...
Pretty addictive for the time.
Rumor has it that this inspired the show "Give 'N Take" created by Bill Caruthers.
11:09 CLUTCH!
crazy stuff
Did Art James intentionally flip a bird at the 0:40 mark? Or was that just a random eyebrow rub?
Vacation in Puerto Rico for $396!!😅😅😅
Art James, whose given name was Arthur Simeonovich Efimchick. His parents didn't know when to ... "say when".
Big deal! Arthur Simeonovich Efimchicks are a dime a dozen!
He’s a little dull
Interesting, send the trivia question to Bob Goen Game Show Network radio
I can only think of one other game show that used a guitar for main music - the daytime "Let's Make a Deal."
Well, Ivan Ditmars had other instruments in his LMAD Orchestra besides a guitar, but it was very predominant. With Say When, it was just Carmen Mastren and his guitar. Quite a unique sound.
I like that game that game i also love whats my line
was that les paul playing those short fills during the prize reveals?
No, it was Carmen Mastren.

Wow! From the very first week Say When was on the air! Camouflage, hosted by Don Morrow, premiered the very next week. Those were the days.
You hit me where I live with Camouflage. I loved that show.
Yes, I guess I'm slightly giving away my age (21-plus).
A 28 piece set of Le Creuset for $234??? You couldn’t get a lid for that now.
SAY WHEN! was produced by Goodson/Todman for NBC. The contestants were well dressed.😢
Has a lot of elements of The Price is Right, unsurprisingly, as that was also Goodson/Todman.
@@mcfunwow Goodson-Todman virtually OWNED the game show industry.
Any other game shows you got?
I have more game shows on film, and will be posting them as time permits.
@@chumrain nice! Can't wait to see 'em!

Introduced by Wayne Howell.
Sounds like Roger Tuttle on the "Bell Telephone Hour" promo at the end.
The show was a flop. It ran three months. There was a home game though!
Say When!! ran 4 1/4 years on NBC.
It ran from January 1961 to March 1965.
That game was so rigged omg.
i forgot how sexist
Go away with your load of crap.
