I hate that we live in a period of time where this type of thing is okay. No transparency, no outward reasoning, just vague wording and goal post shifting. Makes me really angry. I honestly didn't realize how utterly insane Patreon is. I'm okay with leaving their idiot platform behind. And, thank you to everyone who ever supported me there (and in general, you guys rule as much as lighthouses).

It is getting ridiculous, not to mention that now platforms are punishing in Banning people for things that are happening on different platforms that they are not affiliated with.
For example, Roblox, a Gaming Community for young teenagers and children, has now said they will start punishing people for actions taken off the platform....
And, all platforms now have this Clause where they don't have to tell you why your banned. In the terms of service

I got into Facebook trouble over a meme. It was deemed hate speech.

I’ve deleted accounts at Facebook, Instagram, Pay Pal… and the sun continues to rise in the east. When there’s alternate companies serving as viable competition, boycotting is as simple as “voting with your wallet”.
Competition is key, in every industry. Disagreement isn’t necessarily hateful. And disagreement and emotions are going nowhere. They’re inevitable. Not tolerating them is the epitome of intolerance.
Regarding those who’re punishing the world for dissent: people say things in public settings with which we disagree and find offensive. Tolerance and acceptance are great, depending upon what’s being tolerated and accepted. Ultimately, the root of civilization is civility itself. People should carefully pick their battles.

It is approaching the point where people who have been banned need to consider a class action lawsuit.

“Hate speech” is a subjective concept and as always the only speech that needs to be protected is controversial.
They have ruined the concept. "Hate speech" used to mean saying awful things like calling a race subhuman. Now simply disagreeing that a man in a dress is a woman, or calling him "he" when he wants to be called "she" is considered "hate speech."
Actually hate speech is pretty easy to explain, other people try to muddy the water, if you call to kill someone, or harmful mostly Violent things against people, that is hatespeech.

I used to say "Its a private company" as well, but after the last few years, I'm beginning to think if a baker can be sued for not backing a wedding cake, maybe these platforms should be getting into trouble for not having clearly defined rules.

@@aj-sz8mu Platforms aren't being held accountable in the same way a publisher would be. A publisher can be sued by an individual if it publishes slander against them (the publisher is sued, not necessarily the reporter that published the story).
But if some anon publishes slander against you on a platform, you won't be able to take the platform to court over it.
So the idea is, that since certain platforms are acting like publishers anyway and curating people's content as much as they do, they should lose the "platform" privileges and just be sued to infinity by users for something other users have posted there 🙂 Just like a publisher would

The whole “these are private companies“ argument never washed with me. By any standard, it should be considered wrong to withhold the proceeds given by donors specifically designated to fund a creator’s content.

Most are not private anyways. If they are a publically traded stock they are a publically owned company and do not get the privileges of being a private corp.

@@godkekliveshere431 Was it a review channel or actual full movies? Unless the movies are in the public domain, you can't post them without issues in any case. There are ways around it - if you change the content somewhat (it's technically not the original), but you're still on very shaky copyright ground either way, plus you're kinda ticking off lovers of the originals, not to mention messing up the viewing experience for first time viewers. The best and easiest way to avoid the copyright issue is to make your own movies, even if it is short films or proof of concepts. Fan films are popular, but the ban hammer is always hovering above your head since you are latching on to a corporate franchise, who can claim ownership and send out cease and desists at any time they so wish. :/

I left Patreon ever since they banned Sargon. It baffles me that anyone would still use platforms like Patreon or GoFundMe & expect fair treatment. They’re HIGHLY politicized platforms.

I just went in and cancelled all my patreon subscriptions. It pains me, because I genuinely love supporting them, but I will do so through other means if possible. I was never one to boycott companies in the past, but when they are deliberately choosing to censor creators (even on other platforms) it's just sickening.
Just like you wouldn't want to fund war or terrorism, you wouldn't want to fund those who would attack your beliefs and way of life. You're providing them the resources they need to your detriment. Sad state of affairs to be sure.

I've refused to put any money into Patreon ever since they started going down this path of politically motivated censorship. I've even tried to steer some of my favorite non-political creators away from it, but so far the message hasn't really stuck. Hopefully enough people will eventually make it clear that if you don't have an alternative to Patreon, you're missing out.
I've straight up told creators I want to support you but I will not use patreon. More are taking up alternatives. I'm not sure it's because of me but if enough people make a request, many will listen.

There are actually forms of speech that aren't protected by the Constitution. That's very likely the loophole places like Patreon use to get out of any potential legal ramifications so long as they can ramrod what they don't like into the specific qualifiers for unprotected speech.

If they do that to me, an average guy, you know they’re doing that to many, many, many more. If people are sending you funds and Patreon is withholding these funds then is this not a form of theft (conversion). When go fund me tried this on the trucker donations they found themselves facing criminal theft charges.
