Thank you for watching!
Good video Ryan. I was curious if you maintain a nitrate level in the tank or does it read 0? I am running a lean tank and add some nitrate but it must get sucked up fast because I always read 0. Like you said, I am relying on the aqua soil for the bulk of nutrients.
I'm sorry I'm 7 months late to this response but if you see this .. I like to keep it around 10ppm, anything more and the plants aren't as red and then anything less they don't look as healthy as they should!
I think one of the reasons why I struggle a bit with red color even though I got pretty potent lights (Twinstar 900), is because I have huge rocks in the tank, that I believe increase the hardness level. I also don't use RO water, and I believe that tap water down in Florida has a lot of hardness since it comes from underwater aquifers which leak off minerals into the water...
I think it's not the rock bcoz it helps manage the nitrates by building beneficial bacteria colony on its surface.
You must definately check the water quality get good filteration with proper bio media in it. 👍
Does putting pothos in the filter helps reducing nitrate?
What do you use to remineralize your RO water? I have salty shrimp gh/kh+ for when I use to keep Crystal reds. Can I use that or is there another product you recommend?
That's what I use as well!
Thanks Rayan
My problem is that I live in Puerto Rico and every time I order red plants they arrive wilted and when I plant them in my aquarium they don’t seem to adapt and wined up dying. It’s so frustrating. Any tips on how to prevent that?
Any more info on that particular light? Model, cost etc? Three year review? 👍😁
I use the ei dosing method and I have red plants and plants need about 10-20ppm nitrate.
What type of plants do you have that are red and what type of light?
What ppm is your rotala to turn red?
Might be a dumb question but can i use spring water?
It's not a dumb question! I'm even not really sure, I don't see why not. Get a test kit and see what the levels are and go from there!
Im using ro and dosing very little nitrogen i also have a T5ho 3x24W fixture its very powerful over a 60P but no reds yet. They have just started to get a bit red but nothing crazy.
It’s definitely a time consuming process. Part 2 of this series may have some extra answers for you!

@@aquascapegods Thanks
Anytime! If you have any more questions we are always here to answer them!
I’ve been trying to dose leaner but still no reds! I’ve been trying for months what am I doing wrong? Maybe more filter media ? Also staghorn Algae is growing in the path of the flow and the only rotalas with slight reds are in very weak flow areas. Maybe organics are coming out of filter and causing this. I have a Sunsun HW 303B which is kind of overkill for a 60p size tank. One other thing I noticed is that the redder rotalas are not pearling as much and have thicker stems than the green rotalas.
@@aquascapegods my plant aren’t red 😂 I’m giving up. Any tips? What should I do? Can I raise my light by 30min a week? I’ve stopped nitrates entirely too, so idk.
Can you share what fertilizer you use, and how much
I'm curious too on how much K & P you dose per week.
Yes we are going to share everything in a future video!
Aquascape Gods lol ok.
I use RO water but nitrates still goes up.
someone told me you have to put a rusted foundation steel rod and that helps the rotala take on the red. I hope my rotala sp. Green turns red and I hope my fish dont eat the rusted steel
💯👍👍
Would a kessil light do the job ? BTW gorgeous plants pal
How to make rotala grow straight
Reduce the lights or they will grow horizontally! Because they are trying to protect themselves from dense light by escaping it by going horizontally instead of vertically
Plant them close together
I have seen a thing pink led make plants red.
lol omg another video of you NOT showing the plants. I think you're a cool looking guy but show me some plants my dood!
Practically a useless video when giving no exact data.
Meaning... how much PPM is Low?
How much light intensity and hours???
You don't talk about Iron!!! You can't have red plants without adding Iron it is as simple as that!!!
I haven't watched this video in a while so maybe there's details I'm missing and can make updates on in the future. As far as PPM I like to be under 10 but have been way above that and had fine red colors. Lighting with t5s I've used two 6500k bulbs and with LED's I've had reds with really strong lights such as the sbreef freshwater. I always keep my lights on for 7 to 8 hours a day.
As far as iron, that's just not true. I've dosed extra iron in tanks and it's made little to no difference but you're entitled to your own opinion.
Hope your day gets better.
