great informative video on plants Ron. I would highly recommend to try ludwigia palustris. it is super easy to grow as a deep red plant even without CO2. Thanks for sharing!
Nice, one of the better 'No Co2' youtube vids. Yeah,I'm getting not the pure red of Ludwigia, but not bad. I'm getting top of leaf green, undersides are red. With my pumps moving a current, you get to see the red as the stems bend. It's pretty new..it might get redder...or not. One plant that has color without any Co2 all the time is Ammania. Its prone to melt if you don't fertilize or dose iron. But,I wouldn't doubt people out there have water with enough to grow itt into a nice orange-reddish hedge. Just use as strong a light as you can.
Nice aquarium! My common Pleco "Whiskers" is now 8 months old and 8 inches long and she is happy and healthy! She spends all her time in her artificial log.
Hey Ron I have a tank with reddish Flourite substrate, high iron content and I use Thrive, since it is what is available. I planted some red carpet plants and they are looking great. Lighting is always my challenge, I have yet to grow any Algea on my tank walls at all. I would like to find red aquatic plants from bulbs, any suggestions?
@@FridayFishFacts thanks Ron. It irks me that I have to order out of town so often. The only places that carry plants are like Big Al's or Mister Pets and PetSmart. All bread and butter plants, though the Red Ludwigia is nice. The fellow who is running his home based fishroom gets cool plants from time to time. Vancouver has got to have some decent shops?
Hi Ron How do you keep algea away with such long light hours? I would love to keep my light on for that long but I get algea growth very quick with just 8 hours. Please advise🙏🏼
The only plants so far to get color with no Co2,but lots of light- even some sunlight-- are Ammania gracilis..but I've seen Neseae also called A.gracilis..it's commonly mixed up on google images. I go with Ammania gracilis. The other you mentioned the Alternanthera..mine was a test tube plant..but adapted very well, good color, and seems to be a future dense clump. In 3 or 4 years! Ludwigia..is as you say. But "Super Red" stays red in no Co2..I need a second try as my first ended when I used too much Hydrogen Peroxide. Until then..it was almost metallic red. I miss that plant! Rotala macrandra ..in the 80's I was growing it big in a 100 gallon under 4 ,40 watt bulbs of mixed spectrum..had a nice orange color..rare for plants back then to be anything but green.
I was literally talking about my crappy luck with red plants yesterday! I now know where I'm going wrong... the light. I only have my lights on for 5 hours due to th3 room having 2 big windows so I only have the lights on 5-10 when I'm home from work.
Yeah the trick with the Lotus is to stop it growing once it gets going, it pops up everywhere. It can be a pain when it reaches the surface. It seems to send up new pads daily which are huge and block out a lot of light.
Your name is Ron De Santis? No kidding? I guess it depends on your political leanings as to whether I'd say congrats or condolences, but I bet that's an interesting conversation....
Dude is amateur at best. Sorry but u should use less light better planting substrate and ferts and u will save money on ur electric bill. Add iron for more red

I’ll definitely check that out Shawn!
Like the colors & varieties of vegetation....they provide wonderful cover!!
Hey Ron, unfortunately due to my cichlids I have no real plans. Nice to see you my friend. Your aquariums are always Crystal clear.
Joe Munoz thanks for the kind words Joe
Nice tips Ron! Thanks for sharing. I’ve never tried red plants because they scare me.
Jeremy's Wild Studio try them!!! They’re beautiful
I've got a Echinodorus sp. Kleiner prinz that's fairly burgundy without co2. Apparently it's not an easy to find plant so I'm glad I got it

Thank you very much Stan
Nice vid...have not tried planted tanks yet...but i am soaking up the info!!
FishyBizzAquatics they’re very addicting lol
Nice aquarium! My common Pleco "Whiskers" is now 8 months old and 8 inches long and she is happy and healthy! She spends all her time in her artificial log.
That’s awesome!
Nice one Ron. Good info presented with no bs... keep em coming!
That's one of the best parts of FFF's in my opinion. Ron cuts to the chase, supplies good info, well spoken and relateable.
My goal is to have people watch to the end. So I try and chop out unnecessary content. I’m glad u like it!
Thanks for the kind word Kerry
How did you manage to keep the red tiger lotus to stay in the sand and not float?
Oh yeah them plants look super healthy 👍💪
Rob 93 Aquatics thanks Rob
This video will be helpful for my future ventures when I decide to create a planted tank. Like...
Rounded Rob thanks Rob! Plants are so fun. Addictive though lol

Vancouver has a ton of shops.
Hi Ron
How do you keep algea away with such long light hours? I would love to keep my light on for that long but I get algea growth very quick with just 8 hours.

I would say just add more plants. I find the more I have, the less algae. You can always add some algae eating species as well

What is the background tall thin green plant name here 3:58
i've try red cabomba, red buche, its grows well without co2 and liquid ferts. I prefer lots of animal, guppies and shrimp to do co2
Plants look great. I have a tiger bulb in my shrimp tank that is growing like crazy.
DeFreese Aquariums that’s awesome Rob!
Some fantastic information in this video, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
The Fish Room thanks for the kind words 😁
I going to try the reineckii! My ludwigia repens is sort of red-bronzish colour.
Awesome

Awesome! Fertilizer is important too 😉
@@FridayFishFacts I use dennerle V30, I can highly recommend it. I did a review if you wanna check it out.
Im trying to grow macandra but dont know if it will survive ??
That’s a more difficult plant. Requires CO2, intense light and iron
@@FridayFishFacts yes ive got co2 but my lights not a great one so im saving for a kessil so let's hope it lasts untill I get one lol
What is the tall plant on the left that reaches the surface & has narrow leaves, love it. Thnks
In the 90 gallon behind me? I think that is a type of hygrophila. I bought it from a hobbyist that couldn’t remember what it is
Very nice video 👍👊😉🙋💞
What is that plant in the beginning of the video ? the one in the pink gravel...
it looks really nice :)
Amazon sword. Great beginner plant just make sure you don’t have fish that eat plants
Wow beautiful plants!!
Ash's Cichlids thanks Ash!
Can you use the real plants with root tabs and fertilizer with gravel ?
You can for sure
Is Tropica specialised nutrition very good, medium good or bad?
It works very well. You just need to use more, making your cost rise
@@FridayFishFacts I want the plants to get what they need but what nutrition does that which is cheap?
Little Lamb I like aquarium co-op’s easy green
some of my favorites
What is the name of the bright green plant at the start of the video?
In the purple substrate? Amazon sword
@@FridayFishFacts yes thank you! I always thought that amazon sword grew more in hight. This one looks so dense and shorter
Awesome plants and thank you for sharing the information!~Eric
Thanks Ron!
Also buce is good idea to
Do those rummy nose tetras tear up your plants?
A_N TV no, the rummynose have never touched any plants as far as I’ve seen
Is the liquid fertilizer necessary if i use soil
Joshua Lalrinzuala the tiger lily should be fine. You might find yourself needing to add fertilizer at some point
Nice information 👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome Video! I subscribed.
Cichlid City thanks very much!!!
Great info! I could use some more color in my tanks 😄
MyHecticLifePets I love the red in tanks myself 😁
Great
Where u brought those live plants from?
coolwater411 some from the AGA convention, some from @Bentleypascoe and some from Aquarium Co-op
Friday Fish Facts only the red plants?
+coolwater411 ya. The rest have been from auctions, other hobbyists and local stores
That tank behind you is so vibrant! 😍
Thanks!
Nice.
👍💕👍
Very interesting and informative my friend.
I realize I am kind of off topic but does anybody know a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
@Jensen Leo i use Flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Ira Ralph yea, I have been watching on FlixZone for months myself :)
@Ira Ralph Thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D I really appreciate it !!
@Jensen Leo Happy to help :D

The coloured gravel... 😭
Lol the purple gravel is my sons tank. The blue gravel tank has been changed to white sand 😁
Governor de Santis?
Yeah the trick with the Lotus is to stop it growing once it gets going, it pops up everywhere.
It can be a pain when it reaches the surface. It seems to send up new pads daily which are huge and block out a lot of light.
Red always draw the eye in...
prolificbreed I agree
12 hours of light? Don’t you get algae?
I’ve cut it to 9 hours now for most tanks. Unless they are packed with plants 12 hours was causing algae
I use iron in all my tanks
I thought red plants need more iron
The seachem root tabs I use have iron and easy green has a little iron too
But 'Little" isn't enough. Seachem's iron only can really green up plants. like Java and Trident ferns...mosses. Works great on all plants really.
Hello friday its me catfish aquatics but i cant rlly get into meh fish account .____.
Hey buddy
Guess when he's not upholding the sanity in Florida he's an aquascaper. More reason to vote Ron Desantis!
