Its cool to see another person doing this as well! I started my Origin Dex about a year ago in the lead up to SV. Though I got burnt out and took a few months off. GO will probably be the hardest game to complete. I'm still on the fence about counting missed events or not. I might gen them, but only after 100%ing the rest. Also storage size is going to be a major issue. Home can't fit everything at once. That spreadsheet will be super useful though, wish I had it from the start!
Yeah there’s definitely a level of burnout from playing so much, but time is ticking and I don’t want to regret not completing it! Go is a challenge for sure since I’m not always up for going out, and not all the Pokémon are easy to find IRL. I’ve been thinking of genning old events but to a limited degree. My own personal moral compass on them lol. Eventually I may just give I’m and gen some cool ones that I never would have been able to get like in JP or something. I’ve seemed to have gotten around the space issue by storing the Switch Marks in their appropriate games. (Galar marks are all in sword and shield boxes for example) The spreadsheet is so necessary since there’s 6000+ marks and more if you want to go further with genders and events and stuff!
@@mrtylersquareddoing this challenge as well and i decided to gen old events. it’s the only way to get quite a couple pokémon at all, let alone with the marks. it makes me sad you have to but id feel wrong at the end of the challenge if i didn’t have a complete dex
This is a really cool concept! I'm working on a shiny living form dex, In a rush to get all of the pokémon that are only available shiny in older games. Because of the looming fear of pokémon Bank going away sometime. Good luck on your challenge and I'm excited to see your progress!
Something I wanna note myself: I think it'll be neat to see stuff like an Annihilape from Sun and Moon or an Galarian Weezing from Kalos when you eventually get there :3
hi! you were talking about getting a gameboy mark dunsparce, and I saw this on bulbapedia and thought it may be helpful! Since Natures were determined via personality value prior to Generation V (which itself is indistinct from encryption constants prior to Generation VI), a Hardy Nature Dunsparce with the Ability Serene Grace that is transferred from Generation III or IV to Generation IX will have a 50% chance of evolving into Three-Segment Form Dudunsparce all the best for this living dex quest!!
Very cool!!! I have one of these going! Focusing primarily on Go, and SV, for the Meloetta, but absolutely my main goal of having my living dex be made with pokemon with their "earliest" marks, etc
I love this challenge. It's perfect for those who find a living formdex not enough. I'm doing the same as you do, only event Pokémon go instead of those with my own OT, and shinies replace those that are not. For example my Go part is a mixture of regular and shinies. If a Pokémon had two event distributions I'll add them both. In-game trade Pokémon replaces ones caught by me, but will go alongside their event counterparts. Due to space limitations I decided to have the No Origin part to be strictly Events, in-game trades, and specials only, such as Hayley from Gen 4 and N's from Gen 5. It's gonna be one hack of a ride, but I already completed Paldea and Hisui and am working on BDSP now. Form variants are only added by their generation of first appearance in the oldest game possible, so the entire Unown family for example will come from HeartGold since that is the oldest Johto game. Every other game that has Unown in it will have the exclamation mark in their Origin Mark Dex as this indicates and requires Unown alphabet completion in these games respectively. Thanks for your inspiring video. I'm glad to see you made it a series.
I like your idea of replacing Go shinies in their spots. There’s so much overlap with in game trades, events, and other special encounters I haven’t quite decided how it will ultimately be organized yet. Grats on finishing Paldea and hisui! Although the DLC is going to add more marks for us to hunt! 💪🏻 Excited to see us progress together! Check in with me on the next update vid!
Not sure if you’ve already finished with the Deoxys forms but you can hack your 3ds to have a checkpoint which will allow you to make a backup of your save which you can use to get multiple deoxys without having to play through ORAS 4 times
I am trying to do a similar challenge in the games I own which are the Gen 3 Kanto remakes, the Gen 4 Sinnoh games, and Black and White. I know they don’t have origin marks, but I still like that they have unique met locations. I may have missed this in the video, but what are you doing about Pokemon that are not catchable in a game? For example, you apparently can’t catch Rattata in X and Y. Are you just transferring Rattata into those games and breeding them? I was considering doing that, but I’m hoping that’s some faster way since that’ll take a long time!
So for the rattata example, I could technically catch one from dexnav in Oras for the pentagon mark. The region won’t match, but there is no kanto for gen6. For me personally I would prefer to catch as many mons as possible, but I’ve kinda changed over to transferring and breeding now. EVENTUALLY I may go back for gen 3/4/5 and get them from their own regions so it matches (Kanto mons born/caught in firered or sinnoh mons born/caught in sinnoh for example) Hope that all made sense! Good luck on your challenge! Gen3-5 is still a good achievement to work towards!
@@mrtylersquared That makes sense! I will work on catching as many mons as possible too and move on to transferring later. Gens 3-5 has been a fun trip so far, and I might move to 6 and 7 later. Thanks, and good luck with your dex!
Planning on just doing an original game living dex, fortunate enough to have most of the original GBA/VC/DS and 3ds games. But yeah finding the time to put in that grind is tough
Amazing home you got already 🤩 I’m also working on my living dex with each gen from the origin forms (kinda like Toby’s dex) ! Excited to follow your adventures 🤩 you got a new sub ! Also I’m active on Pokémon go too if you have space in your friend list I can add you, I’m French so my gift will be French haha 😊
I did something similar but only focused on getting all the Pokémon from their original game and if there were remakes get the pre evolved forms, Fire Red Bulbasaur > Let's Go Ivysaur > Red Venasaur
So, what mark to Pokémon tranfered up from gens 4-5 have? Since GBA games also would have the GB mark? I've genuinely been curious about this. Thank you for sharing and best of luck!
Good question. Gen3-5 pokemon do not have an origin mark. It’s just a blank space where other origin marks would normally be. I refer to these pokemon as NOMs (no origin mark). Pokemon HOME calls them “no origin mark” as well I believe.
Very fun concept. I broke apart my living dexes last year with the same goal and it's been a blast. Looking forward to your future videos!
Thank you so much! Updates incoming for sure 😎
This is what I had planned to do before I decided I didn't have enough time and scaled back my challenge lol. Best of luck!
What are your plans now? It’s definitely a huge task so scaling back is a good option

Good luck!

This is for sure one of the coolest parts of the origin dex, seeing special evolutions originating from a far off game.

Hoping to release the first update close to when the DLC drops. 9/13 is the goal 👍🏻

That’s a good point! I’ve already been using some checkpoints for certain things such as omanyte and Kabuto from red/blue
❤ for you work
Thank you so much! It’s gonna be a tough challenge 💪🏻 😎
Ugh, I feel that. Im rushing towards full 6000 boxes and I'm dreading what I'm gonna need to do. XD
Have fun with it tho! It’s a marathon not a sprint!
@@mrtylersquared the constant special event fomo begs to differ lol but seriously I can't slow walk.
I collected all 251 GB Mark Pokémon, of course glitching the event Mew because just missing one Pokémon is annoying.
