Yep. I literally store all my gen 1-4 mons in my ShiningPearl, gen 8 mons in my Shield, Hisuian mons and gen 9 mons in my Violet and the majority of gen 5-7 mons are spread between Shield and Violet Can't wait for Legends Z-A, so I'll be able to store all gen 6 mons there😂
wright now it is not being made along side that all DLC in on the physical cart so when the switch e-shop shuts down this will be the only way to get it.
If you want the most minimal Go influence possible, you can technically get Mew and Jirachi from Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl as a gift if you have one of sword/shield and one of the let's go games. Since you'll need Let's go anyway for Meltan, and of course you need sword/shield, I say it counts! Also, if you can find a virtual console anymore of crystal on the 3DS, you can get your Celebi there! IDK about Victini and Zarude and if there's a way to get them, but if there is, then you'd only need to catch the Melmetal line in Go!
My biggest Pokemon goal. Is to complete a living dex but every Pokemon is from their region and generation of origin. I have Gen 1,2,6,7,8 and 9 complete and gen 5 halfway done. I do have one gen 4 game but I dont have an extra DS to transport and my biggest challenge is getting the gen 3 Pokemon.
@@EliteTrainerKenway you could play gen3 on an emulator then transfer them to a gen 4 on an emulator to then do a save injection using a Cart Dumper - the Action Replay Media Edition or DS Hombrew on a 3DS supports that.

In the span of 30 minutes I watched this video, put in my 3DS Pokemon requests in the Discord, and had them transferred to Home successfully. Japanese regionals and Cherish balls to boot! Thank you for reminding everyone of the actual definition of a living dex. Some people stating you have to have multiple regional forms for the basic living dex, changing the rules, were getting on my nerves. I don’t have time for all that extra work lol

Great video! I already had a living Dex in Home but it was messy with a lot of traded Pokémon. So for 2024 I set myself a challenge to do a living-form-origin Dex with all Pokémon caught with my OT name. I thankfully have the VC games and Bank+Mover on the DS. So far I replayed every generation except Gen6. Apart from the Kalos living Dex I am only missing Latias and Kyogre since Alpha Sapphire is the only DS game I don't own. For Mythicals however I started a sidequest: I want every Mythical Pokémon with it's origin in Pokémon Go which I never played before, but I find the Idea nice that a Mythical is something really special and with the Go stamp it proves that I played through a special research story to meet the Pokémon. It will be a long haul and maybe cost some bucks, but it's actually fun. I'm currently working to meet Jirachi.

Is this possible to do even if you have all the VC games and all? I'm looking to get back into Pokemon and would love to be the trainer on all sent over Pokemon to my Pokemon home. It doesn't seem possible with all the special and crazy event stuff that's out now.
@@rmathiesen5125Yes, it's possible! If you do an origin Dex, you'll need every Pokémon from the game it was first introduced in. If you got both games of every generation, you'll be able to get the full roster of that generation including trade evos. If you want to get Mythicals included as well, it gets tricky because not every old event is still accessible and barely any Mythical from events will display your OT name. For this I started Pokémon Go and played every special research.

Luckily I did full living dex during 6th generation (721 Pokemon) that I kept safe between poke back and home, so now I'm getting up to date with gen 9 to get to the 1025. Also I only have Meltan from Pokemon Go.
This is an interesting video. I like it how you split it up in a cheaper version and a more expensive one. Of course you and I both opt for the most expensive option: having all Pokémon coming from their original region from the farthest games back as possible. But I like it that there are more options than just that.

I gotta be honest, I was expecting much worse given how insane used prices can get for pokemon games. I am still shellshocked by the price of a Pokemnon Box RS copy these days...I don't even want to think about how much money I've spent between consoles and games, especially considering how much I've put into capture enabled DS/3DS models alone...
I just decided to start a living dex recently. However I already own at least one of every game from gen 4 onward and I had bank, and I already have home, so I don’t see it as any additional cost. Plus I was able to trade for an event diance years ago (I got another one in pogo recently) plus I have a bunch of other legendaries and mythicals from events over the years. So far I finished half of the living dex in a couple of weeks. Pogo and gts helps a lot too. I already started with 80% of the mons in home, just takes time to organize them properly in boxes
thank you for being the only person accounting for pokemon go, ppl complaining about the vgc scene cost seem to forget that go exists and is free to play. like it might be time consuming but if you do free raids and play casually you can get just about everything in time.
There are only ever a couple pokemon in raids at a time. Unless you have been a weekly player for years you will have missed out on many legendaries who may not be available again for years.
They pretty much cycle throghn all the legendaries every year. Besides, Ben's point still stands thwt you CAN get them without spending money, if you have patience. I built a full Go Living Dex in just under a year without spending any money in game
im working on a living dex too! but im also getting the alolan and other different variations! so far im missing less then ten mons to complete it, and am working on getting a few! a trick i learned -the hard way- is if you have like only sword, and you have already finished it completely =dlc= included. delete the save file and start over. -make sure you home your mons first!!- then you can get missing living des mons like one of the missing strike styles of urshifu or the regieleki! im lucky in the sense that i have ALOT of the newer switch titles to pick from! but if i could get my hands on a zeraora that would be the lynch pin in the whole dex, THAT and the pokeball pattern of vivilion!

@@aishwaryamandapakala7379 OT stands for "Original Trainer"? Its the person who originally caught your pokemon. Since most of these pokemon were caught/bred in Ultra Sun, they have the OT of 'Kevin'. Most event pokemon have an OT that's set by the pokemon company. And yes, I am transferring them from my Bank app on the 3ds to your Home app on your Switch for free.

I wouldn't even know how to begin that lol. It's a cool concept but idk if that's possible. Figuring out the real world price of a pokeball is easy enough. But how would you determine how many pokeballs you'd need for any given pokemon?
My living dex is almost complete, but I'm missing the raid only paradoxes (because i don't really like multilayer) and Enamorous (because i have no coordination), plus a few others.
Enamorus was recently available in Go and probably will be again in February 2025. The rest can probably be traded for on Home or in Reddit or Discord 😊
I argue it's harder by sending pokemon from GO because you need to spend time and money getting all those pokemon. it's easier buying a $60 game and spending 3 days getting all those pokemon. It's taken me since GO launched to get almost 900 pokemon in GO.
It actually doesn't cost a dime to send pokemon from Go to Home. The stardust (or whatever it's called) replenishes fully after a week. It took me about 3 months to all my pokemon to Home, but it was 100% free. If you have a shiny legendary/mythical, it takes more stardust, but it CAN be done for free. Ya just gotta have patience. This guide was about building a dex as cheaply as possible, not as quickly as possible lol
I agree with Jammin here. Unless you have a time machine, a lot of time and dedication to spare, you can't rely on pokemon go for anything, maybe only the first meltan is worth it. Pokemon go is the must expensive and time-consuming game, you can get a lot done in one week, but after that you become a slave of limited-time raids, spawns and geographic constrictions. And as Jammin said, to complete a dex in Pokemon Go there goes a lot of money and time to get the pokemons, a dedicated player would take 2 years playing religiously 3~12h/day Played forr years, my ambition was a 100% IVs living dex and maybe shundo(100%+Shiny) living dex. Got a Shiny per week and 2 100% each month playing 8~16h/day playing 24/7. Not really difficult to complete pokemon go pokedex, but you have to play it 3 times/week for months or years, and if you are a psychopath like me that wanted a shundo living dex, it may take less time, but wou will be doing 30~100 raids/ray, and those passes and incubators aren't free, once you realize that, you quit and cut your losses accepting that you can't do it spending less than $70/day, or you start searching for a gold mine to feed your addiction.
ive got a living dex in every game from gen 1-7. thou i dont store them in pokemon bank or home. i can confirm its a hobby that gets extremely expensive especially around gen 3.

Is it possible to finish a living dex in 2024 without straight up trading for pokemon? I get lost when you all start talking about mythicals and exclusives and all that. I started my living dex about 2 months ago, I've been playing pokemon all my life so I had all of the software on hand to complete this including every generation of games including gen 1 - 2 on virtual console + bank and transporter. My instinct was to complete the generations one at a time however now I've just made it to Scarlett and Violet to find that Walking Wake and Iron Leaves are unobtainable to me, do we know if these events are coming back or have I hit a permanent wall?

So I found exactly one legit Volcaion actually from Kalos. It's called the 'Nebel Volcanion'. It was apparently an event in Japan. If you want it, you're welcome to it!

Ive almost got living dex with regional forms. Im missing some mythics. Im also in need of a hooper and megearna if anyone can help me out. Even if touch trade. Id happily wait for them to return as a mystery gift in future but i would like em to just get the complete for alternate colour megearna. My 3ds refused to update back in the day so i couldnt get the hooper mystery gift. I can catch some spindas in x and y if people want or anything from omega ruby I did manage to get a diancie. I spent weaks farming shinies for a guy. Sadly it was hacked so im really disappointed in it tbh. I had always wanted a diancie but again my 3ds wouldnt let me have it.
1 question. Do you think they will do the same with the Kalos mythicals int the upcoming as they did whit the sinnoh mythicals in legends Arceus? In arceus you got shaymin by having save file for bdsp and darkrai for having savefile for sword/shield. Phione and manaphy there was a Quest for.
That's flip-flopped. Darkrai is from having a BDSP save and Shaymin from SwSh. It's both cool and annoying that these Switch games have rewards like this.

Actually there is another method when it comes to the 3DS games when it comes to getting the mythicals without using money 3ds games have sysbots and you could just use it to give yourself the event mons but you're honestly need internet access and a 3DS with the Pokemon games

Who is currently unobtainable without action replay (assuming you're using Go)? Volcanion, Marshadow, Hoopa, Ash-Greninja, Zeraora, Zarude, Walking Wake, and Iron Treads. I believe that's everyone that's currently unobtainable as of right now. If there's one I missed, I'll edit the comment. Spinda is only obtainable in Gen 3-7.

In my experience, most people refer to that as a "complete living dex". Given that regional variants started with Gen 7, it doesn't change the overall cost lol

I have 2068 legit FRENCH pokémons including rare ones from events, all legit that will go through the pokébank. Not sure about home, I didn't buy any of the switch games and don't need it. I decided to restart making a living dex, I reseted all of my games and I just finished Fire Red and Leaf Green with 176 pkmn caught, (took me 4 days) my rule is to not transfer from one generation to the other, unless the pokémon is missing, meaning by the time I reach ultra sun and ultra moon, I shouldn't have any common Gen 3 pokémon in the game.

Action replay is amazing for the 3DS games and I miss it so much. I loved being able to get legitimate event pokemon that weren’t available anymore.

Is this possible to do even if you have all the VC games and all? I'm looking to get back into Pokemon and would love to be the trainer on all sent over Pokemon to my Pokemon home. It doesn't seem possible with all the special and crazy event stuff that's out now.
@@rmathiesen5125Yes, it's possible! If you do an origin Dex, you'll need every Pokémon from the game it was first introduced in. If you got both games of every generation, you'll be able to get the full roster of that generation including trade evos. If you want to get Mythicals included as well, it gets tricky because not every old event is still accessible and barely any Mythical from events will display your OT name. For this I started Pokémon Go and played every special research.

Luckily I did full living dex during 6th generation (721 Pokemon) that I kept safe between poke back and home, so now I'm getting up to date with gen 9 to get to the 1025. Also I only have Meltan from Pokemon Go.

This is an interesting video. I like it how you split it up in a cheaper version and a more expensive one. Of course you and I both opt for the most expensive option: having all Pokémon coming from their original region from the farthest games back as possible. But I like it that there are more options than just that.

I gotta be honest, I was expecting much worse given how insane used prices can get for pokemon games. I am still shellshocked by the price of a Pokemnon Box RS copy these days...I don't even want to think about how much money I've spent between consoles and games, especially considering how much I've put into capture enabled DS/3DS models alone...

To be fair with U.S. copies of RS Box, it was ONLY sold at that one pokemon center shop in New York City. Which no longer exists.

I just decided to start a living dex recently. However I already own at least one of every game from gen 4 onward and I had bank, and I already have home, so I don’t see it as any additional cost. Plus I was able to trade for an event diance years ago (I got another one in pogo recently) plus I have a bunch of other legendaries and mythicals from events over the years. So far I finished half of the living dex in a couple of weeks. Pogo and gts helps a lot too. I already started with 80% of the mons in home, just takes time to organize them properly in boxes

thank you for being the only person accounting for pokemon go, ppl complaining about the vgc scene cost seem to forget that go exists and is free to play. like it might be time consuming but if you do free raids and play casually you can get just about everything in time.

There are only ever a couple pokemon in raids at a time. Unless you have been a weekly player for years you will have missed out on many legendaries who may not be available again for years.
They pretty much cycle throghn all the legendaries every year. Besides, Ben's point still stands thwt you CAN get them without spending money, if you have patience.

im working on a living dex too! but im also getting the alolan and other different variations! so far im missing less then ten mons to complete it, and am working on getting a few! a trick i learned -the hard way- is if you have like only sword, and you have already finished it completely =dlc= included. delete the save file and start over. -make sure you home your mons first!!- then you can get missing living des mons like one of the missing strike styles of urshifu or the regieleki! im lucky in the sense that i have ALOT of the newer switch titles to pick from! but if i could get my hands on a zeraora that would be the lynch pin in the whole dex, THAT and the pokeball pattern of vivilion!

@@aishwaryamandapakala7379 OT stands for "Original Trainer"? Its the person who originally caught your pokemon. Since most of these pokemon were caught/bred in Ultra Sun, they have the OT of 'Kevin'. Most event pokemon have an OT that's set by the pokemon company.
And yes, I am transferring them from my Bank app on the 3ds to your Home app on your Switch for free.

My living dex is almost complete, but I'm missing the raid only paradoxes (because i don't really like multilayer) and Enamorous (because i have no coordination), plus a few others.
Enamorus was recently available in Go and probably will be again in February 2025. The rest can probably be traded for on Home or in Reddit or Discord 😊
I argue it's harder by sending pokemon from GO because you need to spend time and money getting all those pokemon. it's easier buying a $60 game and spending 3 days getting all those pokemon. It's taken me since GO launched to get almost 900 pokemon in GO.
It actually doesn't cost a dime to send pokemon from Go to Home. The stardust (or whatever it's called) replenishes fully after a week. It took me about 3 months to all my pokemon to Home, but it was 100% free.
If you have a shiny legendary/mythical, it takes more stardust, but it CAN be done for free. Ya just gotta have patience. This guide was about building a dex as cheaply as possible, not as quickly as possible lol
I agree with Jammin here. Unless you have a time machine, a lot of time and dedication to spare, you can't rely on pokemon go for anything, maybe only the first meltan is worth it.
Pokemon go is the must expensive and time-consuming game, you can get a lot done in one week, but after that you become a slave of limited-time raids, spawns and geographic constrictions.
And as Jammin said, to complete a dex in Pokemon Go there goes a lot of money and time to get the pokemons, a dedicated player would take 2 years playing religiously 3~12h/day
Played forr years, my ambition was a 100% IVs living dex and maybe shundo(100%+Shiny) living dex. Got a Shiny per week and 2 100% each month playing 8~16h/day playing 24/7.
Not really difficult to complete pokemon go pokedex, but you have to play it 3 times/week for months or years, and if you are a psychopath like me that wanted a shundo living dex, it may take less time, but wou will be doing 30~100 raids/ray, and those passes and incubators aren't free, once you realize that, you quit and cut your losses accepting that you can't do it spending less than $70/day, or you start searching for a gold mine to feed your addiction.
ive got a living dex in every game from gen 1-7. thou i dont store them in pokemon bank or home. i can confirm its a hobby that gets extremely expensive especially around gen 3.

Hello. Just thinking about getting back into pokemon and making a living dex. Im an OG player from 96' and have most of the games along the span of the franchise. Is it possible to finish a living dex in 2024 without straight up trading for pokemon? I get lost when you all start talking about mythicals and exclusives and all that. I assume their all limited time pokemon.

What if you have older gen 1-6 games lets say. If you have a hacked 3ds for poke bank and poke transfer, couldn't you get everything from older games up into home? On a separate note, if someone has the virtual console games on the 3ds, couldn't they be transferred through as well?

I started my living dex about 2 months ago, I've been playing pokemon all my life so I had all of the software on hand to complete this including every generation of games including gen 1 - 2 on virtual console + bank and transporter. My instinct was to complete the generations one at a time however now I've just made it to Scarlett and Violet to find that Walking Wake and Iron Leaves are unobtainable to me, do we know if these events are coming back or have I hit a permanent wall?

I got them from a second hand cardridge which means in all faireness I cannot guaranteed they are legit, but they made it in Bank though without consequences, which is a huge step in the right direction.

I did manage to get a diancie. I spent weaks farming shinies for a guy. Sadly it was hacked so im really disappointed in it tbh. I had always wanted a diancie but again my 3ds wouldnt let me have it.

In arceus you got shaymin by having save file for bdsp and darkrai for having savefile for sword/shield. Phione and manaphy there was a Quest for.
Oh yeah, I'm sure Hoopa and Volcanion will be in Legends Z-A. It's gonna be another $60-70 though
That's flip-flopped. Darkrai is from having a BDSP save and Shaymin from SwSh. It's both cool and annoying that these Switch games have rewards like this.

3ds games have sysbots and you could just use it to give yourself the event mons but you're honestly need internet access and a 3DS with the Pokemon games

In my experience, most people refer to that as a "complete living dex". Given that regional variants started with Gen 7, it doesn't change the overall cost lol

I have 2068 legit FRENCH pokémons including rare ones from events, all legit that will go through the pokébank.
Not sure about home, I didn't buy any of the switch games and don't need it.
I decided to restart making a living dex, I reseted all of my games and I just finished Fire Red and Leaf Green with 176 pkmn caught, (took me 4 days) my rule is to not transfer from one generation to the other, unless the pokémon is missing, meaning by the time I reach ultra sun and ultra moon, I shouldn't have any common Gen 3 pokémon in the game.
