It's hard to believe that I once sat next to this man in a booth at a seafood restaurant in Jacksonville, Florida on a Sunday afternoon while he shared some amazing stories and his appetizer! He is a very kind, generous and funny man. I can still hear him saying, "Why so serious?" to the tense students in the seminar. It was an amazing experience to meet and train with Master Cheung. Many thanks to Sifu Arnett for making this possible.

William Chung is my grand master
    My Sifu was Ric Spain.
I had the pleasure of meeting & training with Wong Shun-lueng on two occasions here in Sydney.
One point I think the world needs to make clear.
William Chung & Wong Shun-lueng were both senior students of Yip Man.
They both taught Bruce Lee for only 1 year.

I find it very difficult to find the words to describe how I am feeling. I am one of the lucky ones who trained in Melbourne with Grand Master Cheung over many years. Words are inadequate in moments like this. I was in NYC training with Shi Guolin in 2002, and I was told that I was lucky to have trained with one of the ten greatest living martial artists. All I can really say is how grateful I am for everything I learned over those years. Grand Master Cheung is a remarkable man and a legend.
Thank you for acknowledging him with this award.

Well-deserved recognition for a man who has inspired and taught so many. I had the pleasure of a lesson with Grandmaster Cheung in Denver, CO, during his 50th birthday celebration. I remember going up to him the first time and asking him how was his leg doing since he had twisted his ankle the previous day. He danced a little jig and said,”It’s working good!” I was young and star-struck and I appreciated his genuineness and levity!
30 years later I still remember how his words,”Give yourself room to move” has stuck with me all these years. Many thanks and blessings to you, Grandmaster Cheung, for the guidance and memories!
Thank you for this video - a pleasant surprise!

@henry hoovers This system has saved lives. This system is taught to CIA and Military Special Operations. This system is recognized by the Shaolin Temple and been given the extended name of "Shaolin Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu." This system is respected world wide by many people and organizations. As a member of the United States Military I have personal tested and utilized this system in situations and undisclosed locations around the world that you have never heard of. Grow up and find some respect.

I am so fortunate to have encountered this lineage of Wing Chun in Toronto, Canada as well as California, USA. It is the most effective martial art I've ever seen or trained. Big thanks to you, Sigong, and to your student (my Sifu), Joe Sayah. God Bless you and your families.

@henry hoovers hahahah. ok. I guess I wasted my time for nothing. What is the saying? 'One man's trash is another man's treasure?' I found treasure...you only see trash. I think I'll respect Bruce Lee's opinion of William Cheung rather than yours. Bruce told his student, Dan Inosanto, that William was the best street fighter he'd ever seen. Don't believe me, buy 'Bil Jee - The art of Thrusting Fingers' by William Cheung. Dan Inosanto wrote the Preface at the beginning of the book and states exactly what I said above. Peace.

@henry hoovers I joined a wing chun school after trying several classes, and was impressed by its effectiveness. The stories and politics of wing chun came later.
I have met many amazing fighters in this lineage, so I really don't need your approval or your agreement.
Your decision to come here and make ignorant comments on a video of a great martial artist's lifetime of achievement highlights the ugly side of the internet, and a lack of class. Go train in something that makes you happy. Peace.

he kinda didn't... bruce never finished his wing chun training, never even got to the third form.. and when he circled around back to it, asked the favored student Wong Shun Leung to teach him... william cheung only taught bruce when he was bruce's sihing when bruce started... not as a sifu.

Sifu Cheung is martial artist, graduate of economics & practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine. His Win Chun is solidly grounded in the traditional Wing Chun forms of Siu Lim Tao, Chum Kiu, Biu Tse/Ji & wooden dummy Muk Yan Jong. To his detractors I offer Hurling Middle Finger.

Good system, I did an other WC style and the alwas make secret of everthing!
Master Cheung showed all in books and DVDs, VHSs and so on👍
And invited all to learn to his school if you want learn more often(than with friends sometimes or so😁)
For me this eye opening techs were gold cause I trained 8 years wing chun☺️
His style is very adaptive to beat various stand up styles - look Bad Bob Sykes incident in UK😁
If there would be a school in my area I would learn this!
He is some kind of genius for sure!

Do a search on "William Cheung learn from Tsui Sheung Tin" and you'll find a Dailymotion video where the man himself explains that Chu Shong-tin (also Tsui Sheung-tin) taught him, and Ip Man only came around on occasion to make corrections.

    • @notusingmyname4791
      @notusingmyname4791 Рік тому +2

he clearly states that Chu Shong-tin wasn't his sifu, but his sihing (older brother). It's quite common practice that the sihings teach their sidis (younger brother) while the sifu makes his rounds with all the other levels and comes by to make corrections, that's not just wing chun but I've had that in just about every martial art... even some of the beginning drills in bjj i was working on the ground with a senior student who was showing me what to do, and if the teacher would only come by to make corrections and deeper explanations.
hell there's video footage of sparring where Cheung gets is ass handed to him by a senior student in a sparring session... means nothing, of course the senior students are gonna pwn the newer students, he got better...
and this award is ... I dunno... he's the most senior student ~alive~ (everyone likes to forget that last part, congrats on outliving your seniors... I mean duh)... Leung Sheung was the most senior student for a long ass time, even though Wong Shun Leung was the favored... ip man technically never named a successor or granted official teaching docs to any of his students, only those who tried to capitalize a franchise did that.

The guy doing the form looks good. Not sure why his punches are looping. I’m not sure many actually know how to punch properly to get power.
I learned though Bruce Lee students. I also learned from William Cheung’s videos, especially the wooden dummy form. I believe one has to learn to actually hit the dummy to really be able to use it. I’m surprised how William doesn’t actually hit the dummy. Most never hit it for real. Yes it can hurt but the pain will teach one how to use it properly.
William Cheung has been a great asset for the art and I’m thankful I could learn from him.

The classical man is just a bundle of routine, ideas and tradition. When he acts, he is translating every moment in terms of the old. I don't believe in system, nor in method. And without system, without method, what's to teach ?

I did his version of wing chun for a year and a half. I didn't like it because it was designed more like karate when it came the structure of learning. The one thing I did like was the fact we would spar regularly unlike other wing chun schools.

I would say practicing WC-VT Kung Fu of IP Man my teachers teacher his Wing Chun is not correct the way IP Man passed the system down. I know he began just before my teacher and spent no more than four years..while my teacher was there 6 to 7 years full time and completed. What he has done is changed or added to what he learnt from mostly Tsui Sheung Tin which in an interview admitted to be taught by him as IP did not teach so personally. There are many versions of Wing Chun out there but IP Man Ving Tsun is very distinctive..the most simple but probably the most difficult to perfect.

he wasn't the most senior (direct) student of ip man .and he didnt complete the system , at least under ip man. ip chun , the oldest of ip man 2 sons, said that he was very lazy and wong shun leung one of the 5 first direct student of ip man and one of his best student also said William Cheung never complete the 3 empty hand forms , neither the wooden dummy form ,and never learnt long pole and bart cham dao, in the ip man lineage. he made up his laughable story about ip man having taught him secret version of WC which would be the Traditional One after the death of Ip Man and Bruce Lee to Promote himself and build a lineage.
He achieved his goal with his false TWC , and for that I say Good Job.
