I had only the CLK500 but at winter it was enough to handle. Even the dealer who sold it to me told me that 'I'll be watching that traction control light a lot' and he was corret 🤣 Spoiler: I've owned only all-wheel drives after that...

I own an 04 CLK500 and absolutely LOVE it. It only has 305 hp but the v8 noise alone puts a smile on my face.

M113K supercharger and all the ancillaries with the ecu and tcu should cost about 10k. So the question is….. what do you do with the other 230k

@@victorokeahialam8925 Manual gearbox, a company now makes a decent looking CLK dtm body kit now, and lotus used to offer the service of developing your car on there test track for about a 100k.
As a prior owner of a CLK 55 AMG, none of those positive comments you made come to mind when I think of Mercedes. That POS was in the shop more than we drove it, which meant we paid $72k to drive a C class loaner most of the time. There were times we'd go pick it up from the dealership and turn around in the parking lot to put it back in the shop.

I'm not posting this for attention but I've been batteling depression for years I lost my job last Tuesday due to a layoff and I found out today that I'm going to loose my daughter, I've been sober now 16 months and my daughter's mother is accusing me of using again and has taken her away i sold my e38 740i to pay for a house for me and my littlegirl.. I've fought for years and finally became the father my 2 year old deserved but I think I've ran my course. I can't afford a lawyer. I have nothing left to sell and my family has turned their back on me due to my past decisions. A few years ago i saw a CLK AMG DTM Roadster in Monaco (1 of 80)...at first i was thinking it was a kit car...but after some research i found out it was a reallty special car...
Bought an off-lease 2001 CLK 320 with 49k miles. Used it for work and she made me a lot money. I put 300k more miles on it. Original engine, trans, water pump, alternator and AC compressor. Only changed oil, fluids, brakes and one battery. My mechanic said my CLK was the highest mileage gas Benz that he had come through his shop in such great condition. Got hit by a truck and she was totaled in 2011 with 365k miles on it. Sad day for sure.
The SLR will definitely go up on price..its way under valued for what it is..and the clk 63 black series is another legend that i think alot of ppl saw going up in value eventually..
nah I think that the engine/5 speed auto combo existed in so many other AMG at the time will hurt it

love top gear and grand tour but have never gave much weight to Clarkson's opinions considering he never learned how to drift around a corner correctly

I remember Jeremy Clarkson reviewing the Black Series when it was new, he basically said "no seriously, this one is special". I guess it only took 15 years for people to notice.
I just saw one at a cars and coffee, legit clk 63 black and the people were clueless as to what it was and it got no play, lol
I drove one… An absolute beast. Actually my favorite Top Gear episode drives the CLK Black.
Hoovie go buy a Cadillac DTS with the lux 3 package. It has all that comfy ride and massaging seats but with the great northstar. Plus it’s an old person sedan so no one sees it coming on this mild sleeper.
Great idea. The DTS might be the most underrated used car on the market. I hope to get one someday with the 292 hp Northstar.
My 2009 CLK500 is not a "worthless" car to me. In fact, it's in great nick.

you should do a 63 build with ackl500. Put wider fenders, definitely possible. This could be the m6 content that actually works cause most of the stuff are shared unlike the m6's mechanical components.
Did you not try the paddles? I would have thought it would be more fun if you did rather than driving it in auto? I think it looks awesome! Jezza famously had one and there was some drama over the tyres I seem to remember and it being dangerous to drive in the wet. I thought you might mention if it was on modern tyres. Also Jezza said the ride was too hard (Euro Spec bucket seats carbon door trim) and was thinking about sending it to Lotus for them to try and make it more comfortable.
These instantly became my favorite Merc when Clarkson bought one.
I took in trade a 2008 S65 AMG with 60k miles for $26k back in 2018 on a Ram Crew Cab. I did the paperwork at the customer’s home and got to drive the MB for 2 hours back to the dealership. Over 600 hp was awesome to drive 😊😊😊

My daily is a clk350 and I explain it to people as the ultimate B+ vehicle. It doesn't do anything perfect, but it does everything really really well. It doesn't really have a flaw.
I think the W211 E55, particularly 05-06 years, will be the next AMG car to see a market increase. The M113k engine is legendary and the E55 was arguably the best platform to showcase it. It’s also become harder and harder to find quality E55’s that haven’t been thrashed and modified, similar to the Supra.

Drove me nuts when people "corrected" me when I said my CL63 was 6.2 litres. Ignorant people are always SO sure aren't they? My plate was '62LV8' so it really brought them out of the woodwork and it was never "isn't it 6.3 litres ?" like I'd say, nope, these people with their impeccably clean nails always went with the straight forward "6.3 YOU MEAN!".

I've owned five CLK63 AMG BS. Kept the one with the highest-mileage, possibly in the country.
Back in 2014 we had one at a VW store I worked at… first fast car I ever drove. We had it for about 2 months and it was my daily to get lunch.
Just drove an '18 E63s and even in Comfort it was not something I'd DD, or take friends to dinner in. Great sound and acceleration but I think I'll shop the '21s+ with a bit more comfort in Comfort - who knows as the "last" all gasser models from AMG, maybe.... aww never mind they'll depreciate too....
I feel silly too I bought one of these for 40k only to sell for 180k. I did keep the Dino I bought for 19k

Ultimately it's a CLK chassis, it really wouldn't matter what they had done to it, it would never be competitive with a Porsche GT3 - literally no way they could make a cut down W209 platform compete with a properly designed chassis - or any one of almost all of its other competitors. I guess it's worth so much because it is so rare, and so silly.
Concerning your CL65; it will appreciate if you keep it original and well maintained. Look what C215 65s are fetching now. Try finding a nice one will already be difficult. Same for the W220 S65. They are even rarer than the C215/W221 models. Nice and well maintained CL600s and S600s with the M275 have already left the 'rock bottom' price range. There aren't just that many left any more. The same will happen to the C216s and W221s. Just hold on.
I always wanted an AMG model but like many I couldn't afford one. The closest ones I had was a 92 500SL V8 with upgraded suspension and new trans I installed. Also dialed in the old school jet-tronic fuel injection for more power and did a resonator/ muffler delete. Also had a couple 92-93 W124 420E V8 cars that OK power.
I believe this car and the sl65 amg black series are the two cars that Jeremy clarkson drove and said these cars were designed to kill you if you don’t know what you are doing….. my old neighbor here in WI has a sl65 amg black series next to his audi s5 and porsche 911 GT2
$19K for that CL65 is an ABSOLUTE steal its probably worth at least $35k - $40k now
I've been disassembling a CLK350 at the salvage yard. I see many of the parts are the same on the cars in this video.
I had a silver CLK55 AMG in my early 20’s. An awesome car, the Black is super cool but let’s be honest they are way overpriced. A normal CLK63 is about £13-15k in the UK and these are about £100k, not sure they are worth 8 times the price of a regular 63, they are still special.
Agreed double or tripple the price yes but nearly 10 times the price is insane.

You either “get” this car or you don’t. Not a lotta middle ground.
You can’t fill a tire when it’s completely flat if the tire stem is at the bottom(6 o’clock). It is too much pressure and gravity against you. You either Jack up the tire off the ground then it will fill or roll the tire until stem is at 3,4,5,7,8,9 o’clock position or above but never at 6 o’clock. THIS IS ONLY WHEN TIRE IS COMPLETELY FLAT AND RIM ON THE GROUND.

This seems like one of those cars that you can still buy now - but you're going to want to hold it for a decade before reselling it. The hardest part of that will be ensuring that it still gets regular miles without putting too many miles on it. Of course, if you don't care, you could just own one and be happy driving it, but it's a lot to get into one these days.
We live in an awesome time for car enthusiasts. There are countless German masterpieces on the market that can be had for a small fraction of their original msrp.
The CLK 63 is great fun and all but the CL 65 you have is much easier to live with at a similar on-road speed. I get the CLK but you ‘done good’.
The CLK will keep appreciating and the CL will keep depreciating until it hits a flat price, where it cant get any lower.

the 2004 CLK DTM even tops the Black Series. At only 100 cars built as hommage to the 2003 DTM Series, in which Mercedes won 9 out of 10 races, it is a very rare unicorn with a much more extreme widebody aero kit and a huge wing at the back. It's 5,5 l V8 Kompressor puts out 582 PS and it was listed at €236.000, although one only could buy it on invitation, i believe. I'm pretty sure it also never depriciated in value. More likely the opposite.

Sorry to see the SLS go, but it makes sense as it was mostly sitting around and certainly not generating much content anymore. I would probably rather have a W204 gen C63, though they do have the dreaded head bolt issue, and are somewhat expensive still, especially in good shape. It would be interesting if one of these CLK's could be updated with the 7-speed DCT Mercedes was using a lot in the late teens.
Only the pre facelifts have the head bolt issue and he tends to collect cars instead of making content about them.
I love your channel but at this point you need some sort of outro and not the abrupt cutoff. Just a piece of constructive criticism bc you’re a big name in automotive UA-cam whether you realize it or not. And it would just add that extra touch making your videos that much better!
I remember when this CLK came out and later when the convertible version came out I knew it will be super expensive and unobtainable. I laughed at the shifter thinking its a small man thing joke. They could have made longer stick
I still don't understand why all the fuss about the Black Series when there is a CLK DTM with a surpercharged v8, full carbon fiber bodykit, spoiler, interior and racing seats. And just to top it all off, its way faster!

Amazing cars new...nightmare used. At around 60k miles when all the sensors start failing they become undrivable/unsustainable. Same for BMWs...engines survive..(except the M6...).but everything around the car disintegrates . Heartbreaking. I'm keeping my E46 M3....ridiculously fast and fun (faster than a 911) and all Analog/maintainable...but my X5M is starting to shows its " wahre selbsts"....when it kicks the bucket...no more MBs or BMWs.... adiueu...😢
Once drove a clk gtr. Can never find video of it but that was my favorite Mercedes ever. Little powerslides out of the auction barn effortlessly. I got to go through 2 times, and it was well over 200k

Idk why Tyler is so surprised at the value of a CLK. Some of the most valuable modern Mercedes are all CLK's. This CLK63 Black, the CLK DTM, and the CLK GTR.
The CLK is a great size and is pillarless to boot. Great cars.

You can make the same argument to ANY GT car Porsche has made last 20 years and its just stupid , IMHO what matters the most in cars like this is not the rarity BUT what it represents to the car enthusiast\collecting community .
I can remember at least 4 YTbers that had the BSSLS and sold it cheap that NOW cry about not having it today.
The MAIN issue is that with Mercedez it takes time until their special cars turns highly sorted.
It will CERTAINLY becomes a high value collectable in at least more 5 years,10 maybe even if the market collapses.
All the Black Series Mercedes buck the trend and either maintain or increase in value.

A friend uses a clk black as their company car, lugging junk around. (they had the original 500e before that). No idea if they got good money back or sold them as hoopties.
I’m still trying to figure out why Mercedes and BMW are both known for their reliability, even in the classics. Why are they considered a good car brand when every model I can think of has severe issues that are well documented and known not to mention crazy expensive to fix?
