If there’s one thing that you have to do in your life, it’s to listen to this album a few times. Absolutely amazing!
So many infinitely memorable melodies on this album. John Mitchell has the Midas touch when it comes to modern prog. Thanks for sharing this beautiful work of art.
A really fine album. Reminds me of Peter Gabriel + Neal Morse album--a supreme compliment!
Better than an excellent album. Great sound for a very underrated band. Lead vocals are killer. Will never forget their opening for a Tull show in RI. They were great live.
really brilliant vocal arrangements! I thought they were done when Frank left but I have to admit this is some of their best work yet. They've retained that signature It Bites sound but with a little something extra...a slightly different flavor? It's really growing on me; I think I really like it! This might be the rebirth of a sleeping giant...
This is so beautiful.
Great, Great, great album! I love this sound ... Dunnery amd Mitchell are two great musicians, different bul full of quality! top
No Dunnery here , iguess
I really hope they keep making music. I absolutely love it Bites. Also Frost*. I really feel frustrated that there arent enough good musicians around. As far as most "prog rock" you cannot really listen to the stuff. It is downright boring. Mitchell's music is musically, harmoniously conclusive. The music flows and usually hints at a melancholic feel. This is to me the cherry on the cake. Music should have a "feel" to it. It should get you emotionally involved. Another band that does this is Arena. Their music is deep.
Frank Tellina I have always loved this from the first listen!!! I make sure that I have a link to this always so that I can listen to it again and again!!!
This is a great band, love the harmonies, and arrangements, thanks for posting
Yep I like this. Strong melodies, chords. Prog with substance.
found I.B. recently, love it! John M. fits and adds to the group perfectly. A++
All notes are wrapped in tenderness
I am totally overwhelmed with J Mitchell's genius and It Bites in general. If you haven't listened to Frost*'s "Milliontown" you should do so, it's awesome too. If I had to pick, I'd take the new "Bites" to the old, but I've found many cuts from "Once Around The World" that are definitely keepers. Mitchell and Beck also collaberated on Kino's "Pictures", which is similar to this, if a bit hard to find in the US.
I love this album. So well written and produced.
Great album. Great band. If you like prog bands with incredible musicians...BUY this CD
This is the first time I've heard these guys & they sound great. Thank you guys for the great music, I think I've just been "bitten".
Henry Minjoot we all have :)
Yes, I also have been‘ bitten’.
It (first track as listening to now) has all the hallmark it bites trademark hooks, time changes, and instrumentation. Great track.
Nice album dudes....
Best album of the aughts decade.
It is a great album by the group it bites
A rare one that can be played start to finish. On my regular rotation.
Arena me trajo hasta acá. Que buena banda che! Excelente.
Excelente música... .!!!!
I'm a latecomer to the John Mitchell catalog (the second Lonely Robot album has just been released) but I have become a rabid follower. From Arena to Frost I've been collecting albums featuring this multi talented man. In fact, I've arranged for the title song of this album to be played at my funeral. Is that not devotion?
William Padon Bless you Mr. Mitchell’s lady: Kim Seviour is quite talented also.
I've actually planned the same thing... Love that song in particular, and this entire album. Mitchell is a fantastic talent.
A friend just turned me on to them today. Why had I not heard of them? These tunes are amazing. These guys should have been all over the radio.
Same with these guys: ua-cam.com/video/7k58q9XQeNk/v-deo.html
Thank you for the upload
I love this melodies!
The next album is even better.
How time changes,it's now floating on the waves than prog rock.
Fantastic album. This is one of the best albums to come out in a while. Map of the Past is also wonderful and I cannot take it out of my C/D player.
I'm made up that the lads have been able to find new life after the exit of Francis Dunnery......a memorable album
Absolutely brilliant
I'm so glad this and Map of the Past are getting vinyl Reissues in May
This band have the masterpiece of all albums. 5 Albums are high quality standard. Great Band that should famous than they were.
I'm made up that the lads have been able to find new life after the exit of Francis Dunnery......a memorable albumt
Brilliant
Fabulous Band 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
what is this? I've never heard of this group at all before. this just popped up in my reccomemdations. not sure why, but I'm happy it did. this is quite good
The most recent Kino record is great.
We need more music like this!!!.......
Great album.
Love the "Radiohead meets Arjen Lucassen" at 8:00
they are too good for radio , like Hogarth Marillion , just great song writing . and all folk want to listen too is ed shereen or cold play , oh dear !
I love this.
Just can’t stop listening to this and map of the past. Both great albums and flawless songs. The only criticism I can make is the production on MOTP is not very good and doesn’t do the songs real justice. This album for me is amazing all round. If Only The production was as good on MOTP😢😢😢.But still.....Excellent work guys. Please bring another album out👍👌
great music!!
My favourite song on MotP is Cartoon graveyard!
How could I have missed these guys for so long??? As good as anything I've heard, and better than most. Wonderful.
Really good songwriting here -- lot of memorable hooks and the lyrics are right on the mark as well. John Mitchell is a revelation as replacement for Francis Dunnery, something I thought would not be possible.

Freaking awesome!!!!!
Crossover prog is an oxymoron. All prog is crossover, it is the blending/bending of any genre with rock.
Must have been asleep when I wrote that...an oxymoron is a term that contradicts itself...like 'jumbo shrimp'... I suppose, then that 'crossover prog' would have to be a redundancy..
H Fitzpatrick
"pleonasm" is a good word as well :)
Coos Oorlog
Neat word there. I hadn't run into that one. Ever check out m-w.com/word of the day? It gives a daily word, its etymology and examples of use. The word selection seems pretty random and sometimes you get a simple/well known word like 'that' or even 'it' but its still interesting to see the history . Hmmm...I seem to be turning into a nerd...oh well. ; - )
H Fitzpatrick While i do agree with you, i noticed that the bands labeled as "crossover prog" tend to have either blend in elements of pop or alternative rock and indie rock while still retaining a strong prog vibe to them.
H Fitzpatrick Possibly necessary; not sufficient.
tall ships and map of the past is as good as anything the original it bites did mitchell is a great guitar player vocalist hasnt got the energy of frank but he chose to leave the band at least there are 2 originals left if you look at uriah heep the moody blues deep purple yes plus the 2 verions of barclay james harvest and wishbone ash plus many others all have one original member in the band keep rockin guys cant wait for the next album
I agree with what you're saying
A bit of Biffy going on there? Really good stuff!
Son geniales...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sweet.
1:09:39 is one of my favorite songs of this album
GREAT TUNES , SHOULD BE ON THE RADIO ALL DAY !
simon hobbs That will never happen, unfortunately...
A GREAT ALBUM!! NO GREAT DISASTER
this is just sooo good it makes me hurt.......
The Best Album E-V-E-R
"Playground" ( 10:32 ) is just absolutely unreal.
These guys know how to write tunes. Naturally, no one knows about them.
Search for " Once around the World" for the REAL It Bites !
Ab-so-freakin-lutely from 1st to last uplifting progressive brilliance. Yes from here one has to go to Frost and now Lonely Robot.,
*Oh my god* (to quote the opening song), were has this album been? I'ts been 14 years since I first listened to it! Amazing stuff, for sure. My highlights: Lights, Fahrenheit, Ghosts, Playground, Tall Ships.
Nice
Sounds more and more like IQ or Peter Gabriel, damn catchy tunes, the band really deserves better than the
💐✨💜✨💐
love it bites always inspiring
Perfect ! The best singer, music, melody. Sucess, my brothers. About me shows in Brazil, please !
Website ? Instragram ?
Saw these guys open for Jethro Tull a long time ago, and it was good.
+slick stapler
What tour? I actually saw UK open for them (I even saw them for $2 pound for pound the best $2 I've ever spent! Just hearing about It Bites and so far so good!
Also check out Heir Apparent's One Small Voice album and the demo with Matter Over Mind, When Will The Morning Come,
Me too. 1989
slick stapler me too, saw them opening for marillion years ago. The band and in particular Francis dunnery were stunning.
when will they tour the midlands in uk ? these neo progs take their time , marillion doing tour November , 2 years its been , uk subs play all the time , punk comes to us so quickly , l.o.l
I Will! Thank you for the nod Graham! Are you a Dunnery fan?
Can anyone point me to where I can purchase the Mp3 version of this album?
What are your top three favorite songs from this album?
id like to buy this album but they dont have their music on google play
+Elessar Yávëtil CD??
hi. I've bought it a few weeks ago on Google play, and their last album too (map of the past) that is excellent too ☺
Trying to buy ALAC files of this album desperately, but no use.
+Private.Cain Buy the CD and rip
davisflyer I'm living in South Korea, and I never bought a physical album from oversea through net before :P And I'm not sure about waiting 4 weeks for just an album
I've purchased several cd's from overseas, S. Korea, China, Japan, UK, Germany, Russia, Argentina, etc. Yes, sometimes it takes a few weeks. It's worth it though to get good music! Then you can rip to the quality that you want.
davisflyer Thanks. Your words gave me some courage. Gonna buy it now.
Feeling annoyed I cannot find a digital store anywhere that sells this. WTF, anyone know where to buy this?
Nearly Genesis sounds! Like Collins era.
I'd rather see similarities with another Genesis inspired band, IQ
Yes!
That's not a compliment! :)
I think he has two words
It's my modest opinion, but with It Bites John Mitchell is above Frost and Sand, at least to my ears. And this album, especially, is wonderful.
that second track is way too close to sychronicityii
12:00
Too bad the sound quality is so bad. Does anyone know where you can listen with better audio quality?
That's what $ 5.00 headphones will do to you..... cuz' I doubt it's the music...:))
itunes.apple.com/gb/album/the-tall-ships/id344761567
who is singing? It seems to switch between Francis or Peter....... This is a great album.
John Mitchell is singing for the most part
Thank You! My ears were really struggling to figure it out. I'm amazed at Dunnery's versatility. Just found "Man"......love It! Thanx again. Blessings
You're very welcome 😊 You should check out John's solo project, Lonely Robot, too
t hilte omg me what a song
t hilte John Mitchell is the primary vocalist.
It's Pure AOR, not prog at all, athough is very good.
I have to ask..... Why did they name themselves "It Bites"? Yuck. I'm liking the tunes, though.
fl6stringer just an 80s thing i think
Still better than Orchestral Manoeuvers in the dark or Echo and the Bunnymen or similarly frivolous long names. I guess they ment listen to it once, and rest assured, it will leave a bite mark on you, and slowly but surely paralyse you with all those strong catchy melodies and guitar licks.
fl6stringer ‘It Bites’ is southern Californian for: ‘it sucks’ if I recall correctly: the equivalent of’ it sucks’., I believe....not a great name for a band...
fl6stringer I heard people say: ‘That bites the big one’...meaning: not a good thing....
Superb songwriting horribly over compressed on the mastering
Lol boyband, hardly sir..hardly. Not even close.
This aint prog rock its boyband stuff.Sounds like One Direction to me.Too Cheesy by far.
I'm pretty sure One Direction has never used odd time signatures or had moments of instrumental complexity (or used real instruments at all). I'm also pretty sure they don't have a 13 minute song with multiple tempo/mood changes. Just saying.
It sounds more like an "AOR" ( Journey, Nightranger ) band with a little bit of prog in it.
I'm made up that the lads have been able to find new life after the exit of Francis Dunnery......a memorable album
