Goku is already a Legendary Super Saiyan.
Goku as an LSSJ is an interesting concept. It would be more like the Hulk, a transformation that Goku has no control over (initially at least) and that contrasts Goku's innocent and gentle nature. And it's green which's a funny coincidence. The characters (except Vegeta maybe) would prolly be more fearful of the Super Saiyan than be at awe of it. Also, Gohan as the LSSJ's son would mean his SSJ form would be much more powerful than canon.

If we're going by the actual canon broly is the legendary super Saiyan because from the new super movie broly was still the first saiyen to transform it's just Goku didn't believe the legend , remember during the Frieza battle Vegeta comments that the first super Saiyan couldn't control his rage and died ,but we know broly actually survived and Frieza blew up the planet so no matter if you go by dragon Ball z logic or db super logic broly is still "him" to put it lightly.
I strongly believe that this what-if scenario should have been named "What if Goku had Broly's potential?" instead. Because naming it "What if Goku was the Legendary Super Saiyan?" creates a lot of confusion. And that's taking into account what's been said here in the comments section as well as what's been officially stated and established in the canon storyline.
This was amazing, id love a part 2, these people better hit the like goal.

If he was the legendary Super Saiyan. Wouldn't his normal power level be higher? A higher power level Goku changes all Dragonball not just Z. He started at a power level of 10. I'm not saying give him Brolly power level of 10k. Even if Goku had a power level of 200 or something at the start of Dragon ball changes the course of the story. He probably wouldn't change much tell korin

So lets set a few things straight since most of the comments are confused,in DBZ lore Vegeta comments on how the legendary super Saiyan was so powerful that he destroyed himself,the person who Vegeta is referencing is baby broly who Mr toriyama hasnt thought of at the time because the broly movie Z broly would be made a yr or two after Goku defeats Frieza,so by DBZ lore broly IS infact the legendary super Saiyan because he has no control over his power. Now fast forward to dbs broly and his transformation isn't a legendary form toriyama basically says that broly is focusing the power of the ozaruu or great ape as he fights which allows him to tap into a sort of primal power ,he only becomes legendary after witnessing his father dieing and similar to Goku THAT'S what sends him over the edge into his legend mode similar to what happened to Goku on namek. Now to be perfectly clear what Goku achieved when he became a super Saiyan is him fighting his rage anger and blood lust and he was in control of his form .broly on the other hand was lost in rage and that's what made him become what he was . This is the difference in the two saiyen forms ,one is blind rage the other is controlled rage . Hope that clears things up.
