  • Ciao everyone! Today I'm sharing 3 style risks anyone can take. Modify these style tips as you see fit to change your style without buying anything new.
On this channel, I share #slowfashion and #sustainablefashion tips that center around how to #shopyourcloset, and restyling pieces you already own. I also spotlight brands that I believe in every now and then. I believe in #creativityoverconsumption, and that we all have the power to be conscious consumers.
Slow fashion looks different for everyone, and I'm so grateful you share this space with me!
    Alyssa

At the age of 66, I am allowing myself to be risky by showing a bit more skin. I am so comfortable now with unbuttoning that one extra button. I am also finding that v-neck tops and cardigans are better suited for me. I must try to mix some unexpected prints and/or colors. Thanks for this video, Alyssa. You are so creative when it comes to fashion.

Great suggestions, as always! I took a risk when I bought a pair of vegan leather pants. I was super nervous the first time I wore them, but I have gotten multiple compliments every time. Every time! Sometimes I pair them with a feminine blouse, sometimes with a top in a bright color. I love them 😊

I like the 2:2 "different styles" approach. Otherwise, if only 1 piece is from a contrasting style, it looks as if one didn't have that specific item to "match" the others. For example, a long silk gown, sparkly earrings, evening clutch, full makeup, hair in an updo...and white trainers. It would look as if one forgot to pack shoes for the outfit!

I work for the school system and see a lot of “I don’t care” in the way my colleagues dress.
I love and enjoy fashion and show it daily for my students. The way I present myself to the children shows that I care enough to make an effort for them. I hope in some way to help them put their best foot forward towards the world now and in the future.

I was a teacher and always felt the way I dressed did impact the way I was treated. It probably had a great deal to do with my attitude that inspired me to dress with care, but was unaware of this component when I started teaching.

Thank you so much Alyssa! I love the tip about a slit in the front of a skirt! The midi length that's sooooo ubiquitous right now is a challenging one for me. I'm a petite and having the skirt hang down to mid calf, for example, makes my legs look shorter than they are.... but I just tried my one midi skirt backwards with the slit in the front - and woww! It opens up a peek at my legs which somehow avoids the no-leg look of other midis I've tried.

the first two tips...yeah, too young for me (you knew i would say that, right? lol) the last bits though. things i can really sink my teeth in to. analogous colors and mixing prints is something i will play with this season! thanks for another great video. ps i made my trip to the pacific nw from sw fla with my one small bag. used lots of your hints. used purple and green with some beige as my pallette. yep. unexpected. some stuff worked, but some i did not have the proportions correct even though the colors worked togther. used lots of your styling hacks to feel comfy if not really looking spot on. did get lots of complements, especially in san francisco, on my "style". i owe it to you! you CAN teach an old lady new tricks and she WILL look chic without spending any money!

@@alamedadancepartyrecently at home, I wore a floral knee length dress with faux leather leggings. My daughter noticed and liked the matte look of the leggings. My husband noticed later but didn't like to touch the texture of them. I've worn the leggings before in the winter and no one noticed. Made me feel that the outfit was a fail. I prefer when people say something generic like, you look nice. When they get critical, it makes me rethink my look. I'm not dressing to please them, its just an indication that it was a mismatch. When I looked in the mirror at the end of the day, I realized that the idea in my mind wasn't what the outfit actually looks like. I was glad that I didn't wear it outside the house

For each video I think to myself : gosh she seams love his work and how creativity is your important to you…I try being inspiring by you dynamism. I took weight since last year and feel a bit « mal à l’aise » to buy new cloths because the last summer cloths doesn’t fit any more. I try to buy minimum of cloths that matching together and try to adapt my style with this rough reality to accept ( weight) …but you help me to keep my style alive even I can’t wear all the cloths I would like…I think I have less choices to be creative obsessed by hiding that part of the body that I don’t like. I think it’s limiting the creativity and the risk I could take …but anyway thank’s to be there inspiring me/us ❤️ I am very happy for you new collaboration with signe and Christina you are my best UA-camrs and it was fun in your podcast to listen of where each of you come from in your personal and professionaly journey. Thank you for sharing , I’m struggling with mixing my classic basics with bohemian style , I’m more classic in the winter and evolve depending on my activities , I’m mostly camping and visiting garden stores or playing with grandchildren , but love bohemian I feel like I’m wearing art especially embroidered beaded and tie dyed etc, this also goes for those individually handcrafted jewelry , I kinda just don’t want to look like a costume .

@@Nini51963 I imagine a blanket scarf in a colourful geometric pattern or am afghan (shearling lining/ fur trimmed) coat could add some boho touches to your winter wear? Or a fun accessory, like a western buckle closure belt or leather boots?
I think if you're wearing it with a classic background (like boho accessories + classic clothes) will stop it looking too costumey, as will varying the textures (e.g. not suede boots over a suede jumpsuit & suede waistcoat, lol).

😊Hi Suzette: Definitely more interested in giving a peek-a-boo glimpse of legs〰️esp. since I favor flats & tea length skirts. Need something to mitigate those two things.
👌Like how a split tempts others to 👁👁 imagine how your limbs continue on up ⬆️ underneath all the fabric. Ultimately, leaving the impression you're taller than reality.
Now, on the 👀look out for nude flats that will sell the illusion my legs continue down ⬇️ from the hem of my skirt down to infinity ♾️ & beyond.
Feel like an idiot😬 to never once considered putting on a skirt backwards for a rear split. 😉Makes me think of all the years I gave away perfectly great tops, sweaters, & dresses w/a V-neck bcos of cleavage🥺. Could've turned it around🔁, & shown off a bit of my back instead🤣.
🤍Love pattern, but weird about wearing it too. Tend to deal better w/a print on a skirt or pant ⬇️. Although there have been a dozen or so instances in my life where I could wear 'em on top⬆️. Usually pattern works best for me in smaller doses🤏 like on waistcoat or scarf🧣.

Honestly, showing your bra isn’t classy at all… why do women want to show everyone they walk by their intimates and breasts? It’s very tacky.

    • @teresacarle294
      @teresacarle294 Рік тому +1

😉Without a doubt, showing a bra can sometimes be quite tacky. In Alyssa's case, it can also be quite tantalizing & tasteful to glimpse a 👀peek-a-boo of a pretty bra (that doesn't reveal any more than a modern bikini top👙) on a beautiful & confident woman 🎉.
Although when it comes to baring a midriff, fit or not, I prefer the belly button to be concealed👍. Makes me think of pin-up girls & vamps from the 1940s. There's still a wholesomeness when it's covered.
Furthermore, I'm a big breasted woman who usually sticks with turtlenecks & crew necks. No matter how flattering a v-neck, deep round neck, or sweetheart neck〰️all these things tend to show off cleavage😳. That's something I heartily hate on myself. I am not 😲shocked or offended when anyone else does it. To each, her own.
⏳️As an extreme hourglass, I have made my reluctant peace with body-con &/or tailored tops that sculpt my curvy shape. Figured out early on that I can either look va-va-voom or fat & frumpy. Rarely are there any in betweens😂.
Although a clever topper layer (i.e., blazer, waistcoat, vest, gilet, shacket, etc.) can temper some of that feminine ✨️ glory & make it more tolerable for me.
All I know is that boxy tops add considerable bulk ↔️ around my middle. I can mitigate a boxy t-shirt or sweater by tucking, knotting, belting, cropping〰️ but all that won't completely eliminate the added visual weight 🪨.
Nowadays, I'm tickled to wear a whimsical graphic tee on occasion. I figure I'm giving lookee-loos a valid reason to 🧐stare at my breasts. While I am more modest in nature, I'm done being ashamed of them.
My heart breaks 💔 for all the women who have suffered breast cancer, including my 💗mother & close friends. Sometimes when my breasts strike me as difficult & intrusive, I quickly say a prayer of gratitude to have my health ⚕️.

I was wondering how you define a mistake. You say at the beginning 'even if you make a mistake, that's OK.' What makes a (fashion) choice a mistake?

@@Dracarys.. I like your thinking. I was leaning more towards some objective fashion mistake. Rather than a personal mistake that means you feel uncomfortable.

🙋‍♀️ Agree with the others here. A Fashion Fail can be a result of objective truth &/or subjective reality.
Like a proverbial magpie attracted to bling, shine, color, pattern🌹, details, different aesthetics esp. w/a decided masculine or feminine bent, etc.〰️but actually on me any one of these things can all easily put me in a tailspin💥.
In general, I finally came to the conclusion I'm more of a minimalist who feels empowered with my palette of dark neutrals. ❤Do love color & some prints, but it 💯% has to make sense for my insane idiosyncrasies, body type, climate, lifestyle, & wardrobe.
🤔Take a light neutral tonal palette for example〰️mixing an ivory or creamy off-white w/a true white〰️can look lovely on a model or in media. In theory, it works. In reality, I put on such a combo & will instantly feel frumpy & 2nd-hand rather than elegant & elevated😔.
Likewise〰️however 🥰charming & cohesive〰️a Print Clash would equally put me right into clown 🤡 town 🎪.
🖤Black & Tan/Camel/Khaki🤎 can be a such a striking combo, but I can only tolerate the latter on some specific bottoms ⬇️. Learned this by trial & lots of error😳. Love a deep chocolate brown🍫〰️& can do it from head to toe ↕️〰️but almost anything in the beige family can 🦇suck the lifeblood🩸from my countenance & spirit🤣.
🌈 Color can give me such a visceral reaction〰️inspire such joy🤗 & horror😱. Black instantly invigorates⚡️me, while beige tones feed my frump factor🤣. Perfect to pick an edgy khaki in a cargo pant, but a classic chino or even tweed trouser leans too stale & stodgy😖.
📖 Once upon a time in the 90s, I was mortifed to arrive at work in an all navy ensemble w/black shoes😂. Truthfully, no one else noticed or cared, but it was an uncomfortable discovery for me😬.
😁Now, I can plainly see how handsome these two colors can be together. Plus, I learned in subsequent seasons that navy shoes can sometimes be impossible to find🙄. 👩‍🏫Lesson: buy the 👠colors you love when they're hot🔥!
😉Of course, applying Alyssa's 2:2 Rule here could turn color from looking like a random error into a deliberate & more balanced style choice👍. (Although I find that color can also be challenging bcos of undertone & intensity😑.) Sometimes the 🔑key to it all is experimentation.
😊Happy Alyssa gives us permission to play with our clothes.

GREAT Q. I don't think objective mistakes exist - people can wear whatever they feel good in. It's a mistake if you didn't feel amazing in it or it didn't suit your style/you. I hope this makes sense! xx
