    Thank you. Another great Ban-maid song, there are so many treats for us lined up in their catalogue.
    The videos from the on-line concert seem to have gone through some post-production, mainly extra layers of vocals, some synths and probably some guitar, not sure about the guitars tho.
    I recommend Why, Why, Why from that concert. It's a fairly simple (by their standards) hard-rock banger that has been overlooked by reactors.

    Can you believe "Youth" was only included as a bonus on the limited edition first pressing of the album "Unseen World" & not on the regular CD or digital versions. A song this good should've been on the album to start with.🤷‍♂️

    Kanami is the principal composer. She gives the basic song outline to the others and they edit and add their own contributions. This particular song was a part of an online concert during the Lockdown in 2021. It simply shows you how incredibly tight this band is. Their live performances are often better than their studio productions. Yes, Miku provides the wonderful counter melody in YOUTH. Thank you so much for reacting to this rarely heard Band Maid track !

      @findle70 2 місяці тому +4

      Yup and to add - Kanami was first and foremost trained as a pianist, on a lot of classical music as well. So when Miku got good enough on rhythm guitar to hold the base of the song, I think Kanami started thinking about using her guitar lines sort of like piano accompaniment and that lets her drive a second melody through the song. There's just ear candy all over the place.

    Great reaction Soham,,i have been roaming this planet for 64 yrs,and have seen all the rock greats over those years,,not seen BM yet sadly,,These ladies have simply become my fave band of all time for numerous reasons,the main reason is ,they dont stick to a tried and tested formula of songwriting,like so many other bands,which is why they dip in and out of multiple genres,at will,There has never been a band like them and probably never will be again,the planets aligned when these ladies got together.

    When Miku started the band she wanted to be the singer. After a couple of shows they decided her voice wasn't what they were looking for so SHE BACKED OUT and they hired Saiki. Kanami told her that if she played rhythm it would free her to do more with the lead. Kanami is Miku's teacher!

    This issue comes up frequently with everyone relatively new to Band Maid. As you are only a few songs in, it's not yet obvious that Band Maid is their own genre, nothing else like it.
    Thrash, punk, blues, rock, metal, speed metal, ballads, acoustic, name it. Usually 3 or 4 in the same song, if not all of it. insanely good that is why a 3 minute song feels like an album side.
    Amadeus Kanami will one day be recognized as THE composer of this age, her compositions ( and Miku and Saiki's lyrics ) are truly what sets this band apart beyond their incomparable playing skills.
    As for this rarity song, it's a perfect example of no B side, no deep cut, no released song of any kind from this band, is not superb. Over 140 on my last count and NOT ONE CLINKER. Impossible but true.

    The pairing of Miku/Saiki on Unseen World........epic!
    Kanami is the Soul of Band-Maid IMHO. Kanami is the one that pulls out the best in every member by challenging them every song she writes. I truly feel the other members would not be where they are now, talent wise, if it were not for Kanami pushing them to be their best.
    I read years back where their first, or one of their first practices as a newly formed band, Kanami actually cried because others were late and MISA was hungover. She was so disappointed in them because she wanted this to work so badly. Well that had an effect on them and that's when Akane was appointed "leader" of Band-Maid because she was the most organized and started holding everyone accountable for practices.

    Each and every member of BandMaid can sing, however, as a rule, only Saiki and Miku regularly are the vocalists. Kanami has a lovely voice and began pursuing being a professional musician as a singer/songwriter. MISA was a singing guitarist at the begining of her band member journey reportedly. Akane has a lovely voice as heard in the acoustic version of Sayonakidori as backup to Miku.

    This was from one of several live streams the Maids did during the dark times of Covid as a way to stay current with their fans. You are right, the mixes aren’t always the best (especially with Kanami’s guitar) but still pretty damn good. There are a number of official vids from those shows most notably the Dice/Different and Manners/Black Hole 2-fers. Dice/Different was from this same performance I believe and Manners/Black Hole was from another one.

    This is the most expensive Band Maid song, it cost @ $25.... the difference between standard and limited-edition versions of the "Unseen World" album. Next you have to check out the instrumental track "Without Holding Back" (white room MV version), which only came on the standard edition of Unseen World. It's my favorite of all their instrumentals... Akane gets serious on the drums. This "okyu-ji" (what the Maids call their live shows, means "Servings") was streamed on the internet in early 2021 when still under covid restrictions. The only people there were the ones needed for the recording/sound/lights.

    Great example of how good this band is with blending genres. Saiki and Miku are singing J-Poprock, rhythm group plays Thrash Metal and Kanami plays some blues riffs on top. BTW, Kanami just have been honored by PRS guitars by releasing the Kanami Signature Limited Edition. Looks like it has been sold out within hours only.

    Fans claim that Band-Maid is their own genre. That sounds a bit ridiculous on its face, but it's worth unpacking.
    The band has a very distinctive sound that transcends song and genre - that is, they can play a ballad, a hard-rock-verging-on-metal song, and a straightforward pop-rock song, but they will all sound like Band-Maid. Their first album, before they even knew which direction they wanted to go with their music, had hints of their sound; their second and third, which almost exclusively used outside songwriters, have their sound. After they got full writing control, they sound even more like themselves.
    But it's not easy to describe that sound. If I tell you that they make hard rock songs with punk and metal influence that fit into 3 minute pop structures, with harmonized vocals and progressive sensibilities under an accessible surface, well, that might sound mildly interesting but it doesn't tell you what they sound like - and it doesn't even tell the whole story since not all of their songs are hard rock (although most are). It's only after listening to several songs that your brain starts to pick out what their core sound is.
    Someone was calling them "prog punk" for a while. That's probably just as good, and bad, a genre descriptor as any.

    • @frankandre4385
      @frankandre4385 Місяць тому

      When people describe Band Maid as "their own genre", and "what does that sound like ?"
      Well...The simple explanation is their ability to transition from section to section...from genre to genre...from mood to mood...from featured instrument to featured instrument... Their ability is as seamless as I have ever heard ! They make it look as easy as riding a bicycle with no wheels. " Hey Kanami, you can't ride that bike, it has no wheels !!". She says..." Oh, really...I hadn't noticed... we've always done it that way. ", would be her casual response ! ❤️

    The heavy wah on the guitar riffs make me think of harder 70s acts... or to some extent glam acts. Think Slade, for instance. But then the rhythms are from something else... this is part of the magic of Band-Maid... you're like...that sounds like... um...
    ... it's got many parts of things you like, but smashed together in ways you've never actually heard. So it's sounds at once very familiar... and yet totally new. Pure magic.

    On occasion, you see Kanami or Akane sing backup, but usually just short sections. Miku is the main backup singer, and on a few, she has been the lead (Sayonakidori, songs before they brought Saiki on, etc.; She was a Japanese Idol winner and performed in a group from the show for about a year, before they were disbanded and Miku took her idea for Band Maid to another production company). I have not been to live Band Maid concerts, so I may be wrong, but I don't think Misa sings during live or studio performances.

  • @mikeholmes5308
    @mikeholmes5308 2 місяці тому +1

    Yes, that's Miku singing the counter-melody there. And, yeah, that's some amazing vocal composition. Given that Kanami is the main composer of the music, on top of the guitar playing itself, yeah, she's a leader in the band. But... it's only because she has a rhythm section that she can count on to be doing amazing things themselves, including a bass player that OFTEN is playing lead parts herself as well, and whose rhythm parts are themselves crazy melodic. So it's this great feedback loop, basically where everything supports everything else, and they're constantly building from a great foundation to amazing compositions.

  • @DaveJonesVideo
    @DaveJonesVideo 2 місяці тому +1

    There are many exceptions, but in general the songs start with Kanami writing the guitar portion and defining the overall vibe and rhythm of the song, with an idea of what the other instruments should do. Then Misa and Akane make suggestions to her and add input about their parts. Then Miku generally creates the lyrics, after which Saiki makes suggestions, or together they add new bits. But that's just in general. Sometimes somebody else has an idea for music or lyrics and the rest build on that. For example the idea for "Hate?" came from Saiki after a friend was cheated on. Or a few times Miku has told each person to just write their own part and then they jam until something forms from it. They've written so many songs that they can't just do it one way. They'd get bored with that. Also if you are ever confused who is who, look for a rose in the headband. Miku always wears a red rose, and Saiki wears a blue one.
