Years ago, I discovered Dr. Gabor Matè’s book “Scattered”. I read it and became addicted to his work. He is absolutely brilliant. For years, I was afraid to look into his views on Palestinian rights. I was afraid that his view of Palestinians would crush me. I admired him and his work so very much..I am Palestinian. One day, I listened to an excellent talk that he gave to a group of teachers and school social workers. In the Q&A, someone asked him about Palestinian children and trauma. I felt a rush of adrenaline hearing this question. I inadvertently held my breath. Then he began to answer the question and I sobbed. I sobbed with my heart and soul. It was in that moment that I fully realized that Dr. Matè was more than just a brilliant doctor. He is an extraordinary empath. He is a man who views the world through the brilliant lens that he created through his work. I felt silly for avoiding looking into his views on the subject. He is Dr. Gabor Matè. Of course, he would understand the experience and traumas of Palestinian children.
Thank you Dr. Matè. You are a living legend.

Apart from Douglas Murray right after the Finkelstein interview where Murray called Finkelstein a psychopath and Holocaust denier, Piers was quiet the whole time of Murray’s monologue but that is because he agrees with him. I wish he let the other guests he doesn’t agree with speak more, but I guess it is great he gives them the platform at least.

Hence even the most rational, knowledgeable and compassionate like Mate are constantly attacked by extreme accusations. On social media and on edited platforms too.
Asking this questions is a way to rule out these accusations very early, so the person watching the screen get a "Hey, this guy is okay, he won't verify any inhumane actions, he is okay" message.
It is bad that we need it but we need it. That's how war works.
Very correct argument for Mr. P Morgan, because he is sailing out on the ocean much of the time. What an absolutely fascinating discussion! No antagonism from either parry, willing to listen and accept each other's points of view and get along, even if they don't like what the other is saying. That's what being "adult" is all about. People are different, and so long as they cause you no physical or emotional harm, so what!! Dr. Mate is a gem. I've benefitted a lot from his book Scattered Minds, I consider it essential reading for modern day parents where attention issues and hyperactivity are endemic across parents and their children.
Scattered Minds is fantastic. It really helped me come to terms with my own ADHD diagnosis as a young adult. I'd highly recommend his book In The Realm Of Hungry Ghosts as well. It's a phenomenal, empathy-driven look at Mate's clients in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, and the ways in which trauma impacts the human mind and spirit.
I couldn't hold back my tears listening to this man. Thank you, Mr. Gabor Maté, for standing up for humanity. You have all my respect

Lol I know! Sometimes I start to think, maybe he truly believes he’s helping the Palestinians the best way he can. But that depends on one thing in my mind. That being, if he is subject to the pro Israelis by contract, or whether he’s doing it for the views or audience. If he is bound to use such talking points and he is bringing on people to show the other side, that supports his claims. However, if he is in bed with them he’s a charlatan because that would be contrary to his claims of being a long time supporter of the Palestinian plight as he puts it. However, he does use the phrase “impartial” too often whilst asking most everyone that is Pro Palestinian except Dr. Gabor in this interview, if they condemn Hamas. There is no independent third party viable evidence that Hamas is responsible for intentionally killing civilians. Yet, he calls them terrorists instead of militants which is what they are, to further spread that perception of the Palestinian people and justify that Israel has a right to defend itself, which is yet another lie as they are illegaly occupying territory under an apartheid sectarian regime. He constantly talks out of both sides of his mouth often cutting people off while they speak to ask them these questions and make these statements. They talk about Jihad like it’s a dirty word or a terrorist invention. The people who call themselves jihadists or mujahidin are declaring that they fight with the permission of their lord and are bound by the laws of their faith, to protect their homes/property, families, and rights. The sharia law doesn’t permit terroristic ventures, nor the killing of the elderly, women, children, nor the destruction of buildings or vegetation or anything but a combatant. They sacrifice their lives in battle to defend themselves against their oppressors. God hates the oppressors and favors the oppressed. Look it up. But Islamophobes and racists would like it to mean suicide bombers and hijackers. Those actions are not Islamic jihad they are violations of Gods laws. Funny you derive your common law from sharia law, but you pretend you don’t understand anything about it. First and only interview of Piers Morgan I would probably ever watch. Dr Gabor Mate as always is a legend. I hope Piers learned something from him that will shift his perspective, namely the events currently taking place in Gaza didn’t start with October 7th, and that genocide of Palestinians is not justified.
I have two feelings after this interview - first, is admiration for Gabor and his ability to explain the feelings and humanity behind a complex situation that most are ill educated about - second - my embarrassment and shame as a UK citizen for Piers to mumble about October the 7th after Gabor has explained that the backstory of Palestine needs to be understood and taken into account to truly understand the situation.

Gabor Maté's maternal grandparents were killed in Auschwitz when he was 5 months old. His mother had to leave him at care of strangers for a while, in order to hide him.

I've watched so many of Piers' interviews on this Hamas-Israeli flare-up.
This one with Dr Mate is the only one that's moved me. The man oozes humility, compassion and honesty. Totally devoid of anger. It's not hard to take onboard his views. Piers is disarmed and docility personified.
We cannot continue to live like this way, always holding our breaths anticipating the next round of atrocities ---"two states" may be a solution, but in my opinion NOT a viable solution anymore, where everyone anticipates to lose something. For those of us who understand politics and administration should look for a solution in the United Kingdom's, Switzerland's and South Africa's system of governance, which are by far NOT perfect, but are unitary system that has devolved governance and EQUITY under the law(s)...

My one criticism of Mate’ is that he missed an opportunity to point the direction forward from colonialist genocide towards multiculturalism and equality. One reason that Mate’ can speak quickly and barely even begin to describe the 150 year genocide of the First Nations in Canada is because multiculturalism and fighting prejudice and laying down multiculturalism since the somewhat transformative government of Lester B Pearson 1963- 1968. Without Mate’, but with him as witness to what Canada is doing Canada is definitely leading the world in Reconciliation, casting a net to round up men responsible for missing and murdered indigenous women, holding public hearings regarding abuse, and establishing integration of First Nations story telling as legal evidence. These are just a few examples of progress beyond violence and experts talking. Mate’ often forgets to paint himself out of the picture which is necessary when experts weigh in.
