People would kill to have a father like "Rickey Smiley"
They should be so fortunate. Kids dont always appreciate nor realize the impact he has on their life! Some will be hell bent on being angry for him being so honest and will blame him for all that goes wrong in their life because they did not apply his lesson or refuse to embrace all the love life lessons he is extending.
I understand your feelings but please overcome this blockage communicate. The Devine tells you to honor your mother and father. Pray for strength go with in spiritually nothing is gonna come to you if thats in your heart. I'm not saying to agree if you wholeheartedly dnt agree it may not be what you want to hear but that dont mean that's not the better road for you think with a higher conscious. You have the right to make your decision but communicate your thought are reason see why they feel they way the do and agree to disagree but dnt cutt yourself off from the respect you have or give your parents. Talking about God sacrifice. Yeah but your parents sacrifice and gave you life. You are apart of there DNA a replica of your father I'm sure you are great and deserve to be happy but a house cant stand if the foundation is not right

Preach!!SMH!!....I moved away from Detroit 25years ago.my husband and I, he joined the military and retired and our kids are also military. My mother stop talking to me the day I got married. Aunts, cousins, nieces, etc....spread lies and rumors about me. But to this day when and if they need me I'm there....but I stopped allowing people to use me. My mom doesn't even know my kids , and don't call me unless she needs something. My dad is the same way.... but I'm never going to apologize for living the life jesus gave me!... if I wasn't for my heavenly father I don't know where I would be. God bless❤

All young men need a one on one time with their father.. It's sharing concern, love and positive words of encouragement...ITS REAL you must get outside the box & move away from negative people with bad spirits it's toxic wether family or friend.

Dear Rickey Smiley. Please know that you didn't do anything wrong and you are a great father. I remember when your daughter was shot a year ago. I was both angry and sad... but I prayed. I remember thinking about the amount of losses that you have had in your family which unfortunately reminded me of me and I would often return back to the physical loss of my father 👨🏿. If it wasn't for you and The Morning Church Announcements, I am sure that I wouldn't have made it. As it relates to you I know you lost your grandmother 👵🏾 and grandfather and your uncle's which was hard for you. But I honestly thought that the worst thing that could happen to you would be to lose a child. The prayers of the righteous man availeth much! Prayers kept your daughter here! 🙏🏾 But NEVER in a million years would I think that you would lose your son. Our oldest children are the same age, 32. I thank God that I have never lost a child so I can't relate. But please know that my heart bleeds for you and I have never stopped praying for you. I will continue to keep you, Brandon's mom, siblings and your extended family including friends... in my prayers. In Jesus name, amen.🙇🏾♀️

It takes a real man. Women can bring a boy up but it take a man to raise a son from boy to manhood. Women she said she raised her sons in fear of men. This will make them fearful and less than in the world. In fear they will eventually get a gun for protection or seek protection from other men in gangs. Why do think so many of our “young males” killing and being killed??? Fear!!! Fear of real men because they can no longer run and hide under your skirt Mama! There are real strong honest Godly caring responsible heterosexual grown men who are willing to raise their sons and fatherless boys to be men! Problem is you are teaching them that to fear the very one who can help them. We have great black men out here longing for their children!!! But they can’t afford the cover charge that some of you women demand!!! You are too busy looking for a man that will pay your bills, support your personal lifestyle, buy your weave, follow behind you like a boy and sex them like a man. Get real. Take it from me. A grown sensible black woman who was a single mom of a boy, now happily married for over 40 years to the same grown man. When my boys turned 12 years old I stopped disciplining them and the decent respectable man that i married to usher them into the manhood that he had already been demonstrating for them. Get a responsible godly grown woman to mentor you so you can become a real woman mother desirable wife that a real man will treat like a queen. Look ladies. Boys need to have at least one positive male role model; emphasis on positive. They need a blueprint for manhood. Someone that can teach them the laws and genuine ways of being a man. No one is saying to leave your kids alone with any man, but they do need to socialize with a man regularly. Mom does not have all the answers to the questions a boy has as he grows into being a man because she has never been a man. Just as a father will not have all of the answers for his daughter. He should get a positive female role model in her life. Does not have to be a girlfriend or a wife, just a woman he trust to be a positive influence in his daughter's life. It goes both ways. No, don't just trust your kids to anyone, but understand it still takes a village. Children miss out on life gems when they become TOO sheltered. Talk to your son and let him know the dangers. Make him understand to turn to you for anything. Ask him difficult questions. Even if nothing seems wrong, still ask, but allow him to enjoy his youth. God willing, we're going to be adults for a lot longer than we were kids. That time goes fast.

I remember the day this was posted. Had a talk with my son. He is still raising his 3 children with my help and a few family members. You have to believe you still have good advice, even if you are a single parent and happen to be female. Thank you, Ricky.

I am a single mom to a 17yr old yng blk man, and we are struggling badly to communicate. Your wisdom is everything I’m desperate for him to know, but he won’t hear me for even 2 seconds these days. I will do whatever is necessary to raise my sons right. I want them to LIVE. They don’t have to stay stuck in the misery of generational curses and trauma. The world is at their fingertips. You're so right Rickey. I always remind younger people that's what parents are created for. Just like God is our father who loves us, guides, protects, warns, counsels, trains us with all He has. That's exactly the reason we all have parents and so on and so on. When momma was alive I loved to listen to her spit knowledge to us. Parents are the blessing to children enjoy it while you can.
