I have one of these boxes and have not used it as much as I know I could. In my defence, I've never been a synth programmer type. More of a sample a noise and make something of it type. And usually with gear I don't use I sell it. But despite that, this box has remained because I know it's a powerful machine.

Is the only way to power off the device by unplugging the USB cable?

Yes but it does go into a sleep mode with the screen turning off when left for a while
