We were very happy and very honored to watch this review and find out just how much you've been enjoying your Typhon! Thanks so much for being our customer, and for giving our desktop plugins a shout-out. BTW would like to confirm the other comments, since the last update from Dreadbox that enabled power+audio+MIDI over USB, we've had no issues with ground loop noise, it's a huge difference from before. Just one cable to the laptop and it's been working perfectly fine in our tests.
I think Stimming is smarter that that. Just received my second Typhon unit and it has a noise issue; plugged into the wall directly or via a battery, HiQ cable, plugged the output directly into my (net powered) mixer: loud white noise. VCF needs to be over 50% before synth becomes loud enough to overpower the noise in the mix...
Own both of them. First plus is the Connection of Power, second is the on Board Fx an third the hands on Control.. but the Sound is different.. the Moog completely lift‘s the ground of a Club 😄 will Check if the Typhon can do the Same in my next liveset 🤙🏻
@@happylittlesynth it's a monophonic synth without a keyboard, so you are probably using the Typhon with a computer. Run your computer's audio card into the mixer. If you are playing it with a MIDI keyboard directly and going direct into the mixer, you're right, it won't help, but the answer is the same if you want to avoid the output noise. Otherwise, throw it through an EQ or a gate, or however you deal with other noisy equipment. 🙂
Mine (I have two) run practically for ever on a 20000mAh power brick. No noise issues at all. And if I need to process sound outside the box I run it into my modular- from which I can also run midi into the Typhons. Way more compatible than the pieces of “semi-modular” gear I have.
The one problem of noise can be remedied by using a power bank. Its silent with its own power bank. Also, it draws very little power, a small 5000 mah battery lasts 10 to 15 hours. I recommend mounting a slim power bank to the bottom. I'm in love with this synth
ABOUT THE NOISE: My Typhon does not have any noise at all, unless I draw the power from the same source where I'm inputting the sound and thus creating a ground loop. It's a bit unfortunate thing, but easy to solve really. And I'd go as far as saying: if you are not playing live, you miss a lot what Typhon has to offer. The AMP and Filter time knobs are pure gold in live performance situations, just so damn clever and quick way to alter the sound. Those are useful in sound design sessions as well, but the real usability lies in live playing. But yeah, the noise is not there, unless you create a ground loop.
Finally someone explains the reason WHY this happens. Thanks. 👽👍 Now I understand why I never had noise problems with mine and why so many others had. For second I thought that I had the only non-noisy Typhon, since I never encountered that problem. I just have never had it set up like that in my setup (by chance 😆 ) so it would cause a ground-loop
This is all not necessarily true. Typhon has 2 separate noise issues. USB hum is only one, some device do have audio signal (white) noise, as I have found out with my second unit.
@@Dekkie61Yes, you’re right.. there 2 noise issues (USB ground loop - and „white“ noise in common, bad signal to noise ratio). But let me ask a question: did you say that not every Typhon has this „white“ noise problem? Your first unit was not affected? Would be really interested in an answer. :)
Excellent demo! The focus on the techno aspect is fascinating and inspiring. I use my Typhon mainly for the ambient stuff, but this video stimulates me to explore the more exotic and experimental sounds. BTW, I like the 15 Minutes format. Keep up the good work!
The noice problem well I went through each patch and separate them so I don't use the noice patch I use only clean ones them tweak those. I know it sucks but what I'm using is incredible. Great video👍
Great and fun review! The noise seems to be a problem across all devices that use USB power, and I've seen a ground loop noise isolator can help, but never tried myself. Number one reason I avoid all USB-only powered devices.
Yup, it's super common with USB powered synths, as you can create ground loop so easily with those. But USB powered doesn't mean you need to plug it into your computer. In case of Typhon for example, most phone chargers and USB-power bricks and such (or even another computer, if you have one :D ) work just fine, and then the ground loop is gone.
Re the noise: The first thing I did was just put a cheap rechargeable USB battery pack inbetween the charger and the Typhon. The pack is plugged in so it's not going to lose power. That solved it straight away. It also doesn't seem as bad when you run it from a filtered USB power hub instead of a phone charger type. No noise when powering it from an Akai MPC Live 2 either.
I almost bought one of these when they came out, after having bought both the Nyx2 and Erebus v3 and really loving their sound, and their ability to go into really intense sonic territories. - But, I thought I'd miss the extra physical controls one gets with those machines, that are not instantly accessible on the Typhon. Still, after listening to this, once again I'm feeling a possible purchase coming on, if only to have access to a Dreadbox unit with presets. - Dreadbox definitely offer unique, quality machines at an affordable price. note - Even the newer Erebus and Nyx can be a little noisy, depending on the settings, - noise never really bothered me, all my 80s and 90s gear hums and buzzes like fyck already.
Great. Was about to sell my typhon because i will be traveling for the next year or so. Searched for a good UA-cam Video to recommend to buyers - guess what, now my mind tells me that it's only about 1kg and doesn't want to sell 😅 This synth is just a lot of fun

Hello, a few notes about connecting Maschine+ and typhon: typhon firmware 4 update, usb cable typhon-Maschine+. Result: power supply to Typhon, audio in Maschine+, midi connection - all through one cable, how awesome is that? Joyful greetings Jörg P. S. your "Groovy" is just great! Thanks for your video.
I use one of those cellphone wall plugs you get with an iPhone and power my Typhon that way, no noise issues. Did you update to the latest firmware 4.1? They added midi and audio over USB in the update. The Typhon manual has a few suggestions in case you encounter any noise.
After routing thru a good quality self powered USB hub all my audio issues went away. (same for all my other USB gear). Also USB MIDI and USB audio were enabled with firmware version 4.0 and above.
Excellent video thanks! Questions: can you record your own presets? I mean the machine record the position of the knobs. Could you recommend a drum machine that goes together with the Typhon (with the same analog madness)? Thanks !
Yes you can. Obviously the knobs aren’t automated so when you save a preset it saves the sound but the knobs may have been moved since you saved it, however the sound is saved so after loading the preset until you move the knobs again the sound will be as you saved it. The knobs then “catch up “ when you start moving them. I have the Digitakt paired with mine. It’s a sampler but load analogue drum sounds and it’ll sound analogue. The best thing about it is the sequencer which you can use to control several other synths or samplers or whatever over midi. The recent updates to the Digitakt have made it an absolute powerhouse of a groovebox. If I had the money though and I cared about it all being analogue sound sources I’d get the elektron Rytm. Anything elektron is gonna be a good idea imho.

As mentioned a couple of times, he isn't a professional UA-camr, therefor time and money is limited, especially if you are a professional musician and a dad. And why should we do longer reviews of 30+ minutes if the average view time is 8-10 minutes max.? Doesn't make sense. In 15 mins he can easily shows what he can do and that he likes and don't like for everything else there are many long reviews and detailed tutorials of almost every machine made by professional UA-camrs.
So yeah, we try to be more efficient so that we can do more regular videos.
@@musictalk-techwhy do videos at all with that logic?
Might as well have anybody do the videos then.
Seems like you're taking advantage of having a resource looks Stimming.
His knowledge deserves more time if you're really trying to share information
@Thomp, this is a concept Stimming came up with and we and many other people really like it.
If you don't like it, fair enough but this isn't a commercial channel and we can't and don't wanna please anyone.
Maybe buy a masterclass instead and support the artists?
Here is one with Stimming on Sinee sinee.de/produkt/stimming-online-masterclass/

Not sure why people hate on this concept. It’s really fun to watch and its informative to what a synth can do without someone droning on and on about features. I search for no talking videos on synths all the time and this is a perfect amount of little talking and a good personality behind it
I like a bit of noise in my music. I’ve found that using a power bank gets rid of the noise.
