I own both, shot both, been shot at by both and wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of either. My only complaint with the AK platform is no bolt hold open on the last round for reloading, and the safety is in an awkward spot. These issues can be smoothed out with training, but you will never reload an AK from empty as quickly as you can reload an AR, VZ-58, FAL, etc. I think the accuracy under 350 meters I close enough that only the best shooters in the world will tell a difference. Where the AR beats the AK in accuracy is at range, when the big 7.62x39 bullets goes subsonic it looses all accuracy. This can be fixed with better bullet designs with better ballistic coefficients. I have loaded 124 grain Hornadays and reached out to 500 meters on steel so I couldn't tell you what the grouping size was, but the fact that I was pushing a boat tailed A-MAX at high velocity meant that the bullet stayed supersonic longer and was accurate. I think it honestly comes down to fan boys and training. A shooter with a High Point that has trained with a High Point will be more effective than a shooter with (insert expensive hand gun name here) that has only been to the range to show off their new toy once or twice. I'm basing this opinion off of years working on gun ranges and years as a range coach in the Marine Corps. Great video keep them coming. If you need some shorter shorts I might have a pair of silkies sitting around...
More on no. 4, the AKM uses stamped sheet metal which required less man-hours and material to make compared to milled and machined metal parts, however you needed huge industrial-scale machines to actually be able to make these stamped metal parts, which means stamped metal parts are suitable only for mass production on a large scale, whereas milled parts are more suited to smaller-scale production
If you're trying to be a legit gun manufacturer then yes you need the big stamping machines and such . However if you are a Pakistani, back from the Jihads and living in some of the remote tribal regions near the Afghan border and need cash because its expensive to have more than 1 wife and they each gotta have a couple kids ,you may find work in the numerous "gun builder/dealer" operations that keep a steady supply of homemade knockoffs of almost every military firearm ever used flowing into the black markets that are also in these regions. These little shops are often run out of a small family owned mud hut that the family may or may not live in, and have a boss man and usually 1-4 workers, using pretty much hand tools, maybe a bench grinder, and an electric drill.. i believe the barrels are actually purchased ,either from usef battlfield damaged weapons, or in some cases new from legit but not real questioning suppliers from all over the world. The finished products from some of these shops is quite good, and with some paint and traditional decorative touches they appear to be the real factory made weapons ,this is actually a point of pride to these guys. And they do work surprisingly well ,at least for a while. Materials are often obtained from random scrap metal and the alloy ,hardness, etc... are of an unknown quality, and while they are good at bootlegging copies of guns, their measuring equipment, engineering skills, and knowlege of actual firearms operating theory and principles are limited. But its likely that an awful lot of Taliban in the more remote areas carry weapons made this way.
@@oldhillbillybuckkowalski The Philippinos do the same and it would be awesome if some of these people were hired to do legit work with real tools and education.
My first day in Fort de Nogent. Called a group of Russians babushka. Only Russian word I knew. Huge mistake. The Brits standing by saved my American ass.
I noticed too, for the better part of the last 20 years as these types of rifles have surged in popularity, that they are not well understood. The mentality and doctrine surrounding the AK rifle is fascinating to me, and the approach to technical and military dominance of two rival super powers has intrigued me for a long time. One of the conclusions I came to when attempting to explain the actual differences between the systems and the governments that made them was the comparison between the fisher space pen and the pencil. Both countries required a writing utensil that could perform in zero gravity, the power of the US defense budget created the Space pen that could write in the most austere environments, millions were spent if i recall correctly in development of the ultimate writing instrument, where the Russian government adopted the pencil. That was a great video for several reasons, a massive "economy of scale" is needed to produce pencils, graphite mining operations, logging, etc. While the Space pen required think tanks, engineers, and likely theoretical scientists at a incredible expense from a engineering standpoint, and not from a standpoint of resources, which are seemingly limitless in the USA for defense spending.
I mean, I know how to run AK sights properly. They're just bad. That rear sight is junk. You can't compare a notch and post to a peep sight setup. The peep sight is always going to give you superior accuracy.
Haha our troops in ww1 and ww2 did the same thing with the 1911. No one could handle the extra recoil of the 45 so they blamed it on the grip angle of the gun which is why the 1911a1 has an arched mainspring housing.
Don't forget that this is a test done by a guy that fires guns all the time and knows how to compensate like someone who does paintball a lot knows how to compensate. The AK is poorer in terms of accuracy as to be accurate you have to be a good marksman. A person who has never fired an AR15 or an AK will find the AR easier to shoot with, and be more accurate with it. Methinks you lot read too many Tom Clancy novels. And this is from someone that has fired them, both for the first time and at the same time. Along with four other people. I have fired Shotguns and Bolt-Action rifles but not semi. It was easier to be accurate with the AR when firing as quickly as you can. The AK was beautiful but not as good. Sorry. I found the grouping of my shots with the AK to be just over 3" compared to 2-2.5" for AR. Maybe if I had years to spend firing it I would get better with it and it would catch up with the AK.
That awkward moment when a gun having bad recoil means that you can't fire as quick... or if you do it wont be as accurate... Ahem. That is called logic, Brian. And btw the 1911 had recoil spring compression weights... And I am sorry but the recoil had nothing to do with it. Many pistols had the same, if not worse, recoil. It was a badly designed gun at first, hence the redesign. Same old yanks, think they are the best and know everything. Bless. I'm sure your hubris and arrogance wont backfire... Again...
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for making this video!!!! Being a gunsmith for 40+ years, I think I've almost heard it all. Please keep it up young man!!!!
100% depends on what you want to do with it. The rifle you want for home defense isn't the same rifle you want to bring on safari. If local laws allow a mid grade $800-1110 .223 caliber AR-15 is a good choice for home defense or competition shooting.
GearSolidSnake It will depend on pocket capacity, quantity and if they have detachable lowers to convert them into full length pants lol. His might be compliant at this point.
It has nothing to do with hunting! The British had pantaloons of the time and our Founders would have wanted all citizens to have access to the same. Times change but they certainly would have wanted us to have access to slick assault style shorts like these to prevent tyranny!
I really enjoyed Misha busting myth #4. I just saw a thread on AK Files asking why PSA AK's are "so expensive". People just don't understand what goes into producing them, everyone was spoiled by all the cheap former combloc kits that were on the market for so long.
In my experience, the average firearm owner is less accurate than the gun they wield. In the immortal words of Lynwood “Poopadoo” Jones couzan to Bobby Boudreaux, “Run whachu brung, Cher!”
The biggest myth is a name AK-47. Soviet union NEVER produced weapons under this designation! Original version were called simply - AK - Автомат Калашникова, and yes - it was introduced in 1947. Later ones were AКM - Модифицированнный (modified), АКС - Складной (foldable), АКСУ - Складной-Укороченный (foldable short)... АК-74 - was the first model to get digital indexes.
The fact that AK-47 was designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov is a myth created by Soviet propaganda. In August 1945 from Germany to the USSR sent 50 pieces of Stg-44 together with the technical documentation (785 10 sheets of technical drawings). In the Soviet Union tried to remake the Stg-44 and make something of their own, but nothing good happened. In 1946, Soviet designers presented samples of automatic carbines at the competition. Neither automatic carbine did not pass the test. In October 1946 the Soviet Union was taken by Hugo Schmeisser. Also in the Soviet Union were brought many well-known designers of weapons from Suhl. They were allowed to take their families with them. October 24, 1946 - German experts arrived on a special train to Izhevsk. In 1947 was born the AK-47. Official documents on its creation is still kept secret. Mikhail Kalashnikov appeared at the "Izhmash" Only in 1949, when the AK-47 has already gone into production. Reference: In 1946 Hugo Schmeisser turned 62 years old. During this time they created: MP-18, MP-28, MP-41, MP-43 MP-44 (renamed the Stg-44). In 1946, Mikhail Kalashnikov is 27 years old. Education of Mikhail Kalashnikov - 4 classes in elementary school for children of exiled criminals. At 27, Mikhail Kalashnikov did not know how to draw and did not know how to do mathematical calculations. Prior to the AK-47, he did not create a single sample firearms. Mikhail Kalashnikov is just a product of Soviet propaganda.

Maxim Kuznetsov thank you for absolute true prescribing in details the history AK 47 “invention” but real name, of course, STG 44. Kalashnikov hadn’t able to create even magazine for the simplest pistol and I don’t tell about rifle. The Soviet Union always tried to steal any know-how in all sphere (starting elementary handguns and rifles to Nuclear bomb). It was Empire of Evil.
CaptainBerz I’ve seen a shooter prove to me that the Mosin is more accurate than my Gewehr 98 because he shot a 7.8 inch group with the Mosin and a 8.5 inch group with the Gewehr. @100, just goes to show that some people really, really lack talent
Remember years ago when TFB did that video shitting on M1891 Mosins and continued the constant praise for Kar98k's and their "infinitely tight MOA laserbeam" accuracy? Always thought that comparison video was horseshit. What with an experienced shooter with an anti-Mosin bias going up against some random buddy of his and a Mosin they had on hand. Not every Mosin is accurate but then again neither is every Mauser. My Spanish 1893 can't hit the broad side of a barn! And that's not even bringing shooters into account, my buddies can drill pretty nice groupings with all sorts of WW2 bolt actions, the Mosin included. (great video here James.)
I don't think they were bashing the Mosin for accuracy, because it is a very accurate rifle, but for the infamously sticky bolt vs the Mauser's famously smooth action.
@NWA744 They bashed the fuck out of the Mosin's accuracy. As for the bolt most people refuse to polish up their mosins, I've seen fast mosin bolts and slow mosin bolts, same as I've seen fast mausers and awfully shit ones. I love TFB but the Mosin VS. Kar video will always be circle jerking horsecrap.
In terms of cost of production - from memory this is due to it being able to be produced with low quality industrial equipment - such as having stamped metal parts which aren't as complex to make as milled parts. This is where the AK is 'Cheaper'
Yeah, that whole explanation for why it's a myth was just stupid. The guy basically described the way every manufactured product has been produced since interchangeable parts and the production line were created. ALL military firearms are produced in the same way. The reason the AK is cheap to produce is the amount of forging and machining is minimal meaning you need fewer highly skilled workers and the sheet metal stampings and spot welds mean cheaper materials can be used. It's the same reason the M16 uses aluminum castings and plastic.
You cant make stamped gun parts on low quality equipment. Stamping equipment for the task is the definition of high quality, very complex and very expansive industrial equipment. That's exactly why it took the Soviets over a decade to move from a milled receiver of the AK Type 3 to a stamped one of the AKM.
@@RustedCroaker I think I may not have been clear - a stamping machine is fundamentally either a hydraulic press of sorts or on a cam system. The Dies used have to be high quality - but overall, compared to a high precision mill or lathe - or even a CNC - it's not as complex.
@@MajesticDemonLord Look at it this way. You can have a 100 years old milling machine (not even CNC) in a garage and make a good quality AR-15. Even aluminum parts can be cast in a garage. But you'll never make a good quality stamped AK in a garage.
@@RustedCroaker I see the point you are making - but I disagree on your premise - if you had the right dies, then a home hydraulic press (12-20 tonne range) is sufficient to make a stamped AK. Looking at prices (in NZ mind) - a 20 tonne Press is ~$500-700 (brand new) A second hand Mill, the roughest I could find, was still about $2,000. Brand new (so comparing like-for-like) - You are looking at $20+K I mean you could say 'Ah, but without the Dies, a 20 tonne press is useless' - but I'd counter with 'I haven't included the cost of tooling with the Mill either' In addition - Stamping parts doesn't allow for the quality control that a skilled machinist can achieve with a lathe/mill.
I would like to say mine about the first two miths: 1) Although accuracy heavily depends on the kind of system you are using (e.g. bolt action vs semiauto) it also depends on the manufacturing quality. If we take the SIG SG 550 for example, we can see that it has an accuracy under 1 MOA, although its working principle is the same as any other AK. 2) There's a misconception about ruggedness: no rifle can withstand mud and rocks entering the action, that's why the AK lost in InRange's mud test against the M16: the first system has a lot of open slots, while the other is completely sealed. What the AK system (gas piston) is really capable of resisting is non-maintenance. Infact, the gas tubes seales the action against the debris coming from the barrel, whereas the M16 system (direct impingement) exposes the action to a spray of debris during every shot, thus requiring more frequent cleaning.
Unless it’s a German pistol, then the bullets are like Russian roulette from 10 ft away (at least some officer pistols, I guess they only needed accurate enough for point blank execution). It’s the ultimate irony for german precision, but then again I don’t think they had as much time to manufacture as they would have liked...
The AKM (modernized variant) is not an AK-47. Nor is an AK-74 an AK-47. Furthermore, many times for example in Vietnam people faced off against Type-56 rifles, not AK-47's although they were copies of the AK-47. You wouldn't call a Japanese Type 4/5 rifle an M1, and the Type 4 was by far inferior to the M1 Garand in every sense.
Not every century product is shit. Just like not every Taurus product is shit. That being said I respect Century's IMPORTS more than their in-house products.
Its not about accuracy, its about recoil management. Most people dont know how to shoot right and just shoot rounds at a high fire rate for their followup shots.
Jup same with pistols, the basics can erase the most accuracy problems.. Well trained men, become well shooting men ... Poorly trained from the start? You shouldn't expect too much!
With regards to iron sights, I think what makes more difference in practical accuracy is the fact AR's generally use aperture sights, while AK tend to have notch rear sights, rather than sight radius.
If they cleaned up the trunnion, the wood, the sights, and the rivets... They would have a decent 1MOA rifle. Till they do that, it's just a gun that falls apart too fast and would only be any good...If you were a gunsmith...and you had a red-dot.
A Broomstick with a Mosin Nagant Bayonet is a more usable rifle than the RAS-47 or C39v2. Not to mention the RAS and C39 aren't standardized to take normal Warsaw-pact replacement parts (furniture included!) As AK operators union once showed us. Don't buy shitty American-ak's. They make wonky chinese imports look like they came out of Tula factory, hahah. I'm not against all Century products but damn is some of their stuff dogshit.
Spoke to him on the phone once for 3 hours. He was boxing up guns and bored. I was told more about the history of the Gau-5 and XM colt variants than I'd ever think I'd know!
having the rear sight closer to your eye definitely makes for more accurate aiming. a peep sight setup is also far better than the tiny notch rear sight. Best upgrade I ever did to my ak was the TWS dogleg and putting a rear peep on it. had a sign radius as long as an m16 it shot fantastic.
99% of the haters against ak-47s and its variants arent due to the weapon. Its politics, people hate the ak becauae of who built it and are feeding into the propaganda of the united states govt when they espouse these myths. Watch AK Operators Union if you want to know how well an ak variant holds up after 5000 rounds and how accurate it is. I know people whose parents are shooting pre ban aks to this day that are still accurate at distance and function flawlessly. Its about the shooter and the care, maintenance and build of the firearm itself.
Agreed, even iraqivet888 (A more truer American than the guy who made this video) did a burnout on the AK through 50,000 rounds in 20 mins and the guns still lasted.
You;*Wears short Pants while claiming the cost of the factory is usually considered when referring to the cost of mass producing a weapon* Me: *Recoils in horror*
7:24 As an AK guy, I personally attest that it is not a myth. Having a sleek and simple iron sight profile helps me see everything else going on, and not get so lazer focused in at the sights (like "living in the bubble" on a scope or target shooting). It even helps in video games, not having clutter between my eye and what's downrange. Simple Geometry and Optics :)
When someone say AK isn’t accurate then you know that dude never actually shoot a gun before... because first shot and long pause shot is very accurate :|
That pretty much depends on where you live. Here in EU we can get AK's for around 300-500€ (even AK74U's) while AR platforms are 1000-1500+ €. You guys get cheaper AR's but you tend to pay more for AK's.
Our problem here in the US is that, at peak supply, we here getting AKs in the hundreds of thousands from Russia, China, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Israel, and several smaller scale suppliers in Finland, Egypt, etc, and demand wasn't that high, so prices were great. Now, we're getting some trickling in from mostly Romania, Serbia, and Hungary, and demand is through the roof, so it artificially jacks up the price. And it doesn't help that US manufacturers their hand at making AKs are cranking out overpriced garbage. Sadly, the AK market here in America is in tatters.
Replace Hungary with Bulgaria while adding Poland for parts then you would be right. Hungary's arm manufacturer FEG went bankrupt in 2004 before the expiration of the AWB. Their last exports for AK's were 2000-2001. Now before you say "but the AMD-63!!", those are all parts kits assembled stateside and the "FEG receivers" are NOS flats from the early 2000's when Arsenal USA Houston was building kits. When they went under TGI bought the remaining lot. When TGI was shut down because of illegal importing Clearview Investments bought the remainder.
Doesn't help with the Russian embargo the US currently has. As if that actually hurts anyone but Russian factory workers and US consumers. Any government official that thinks they're taking a bite out of the Federation's coin purse is smoking crack.
My understanding about the inaccuracy myth was that most people believed what is meant by that is it doesn't shoot straight, but what it really meant was that during sustained or rapid fire it is more difficult to keep shots on target due to the heavy bolt throwing off your aim with each shot. That's what I had always thought was meant by that. And it was cheap to produce because they didn't have to pay anybody lol
I have a slight problem with myth numbers 2 and 4. #2: Of course, when people say the AK is indestructable, they don't mean you can litterally do anything to it, it's a figure of speech, and it means that the gun is generally much more reliable than other firearms. (Also, no one is going to be _soaking_ their gun in mud. Sure, maybe a few bits of mud here and there, but not in a pool of it). It's kind of like when people say the Nokia 3310 is indestructable, they don't mean you can put it in an industrial sized hydraulic press and expect it to be unscathed. They mean "Hey look, I dropped my phone on concrete for the 30th time today, but it's ok cause it's a Nokia" #4: 10:06 "When you're looking at a small scale, the AK is not cheap to mass produce." .................... Holy shit, do you know how fucking retarded this statement is? (8:01 and this is a "renound AK scholar") When you spend 20 million dollars on equipment to make *one* 30,000 dollar car, then yes, the car car is not cheap to make at all However, when you spend 20 million dollars on equipment to make *10 million* 30,000 dollar cars, then you're making a fucking enormous profit. That's why the soviets spent so much on those factories, to mass produce the AKs and make a huge profit on them. (Or for the military but whatever)
i must say that i enjoy your videos very much, especially the ones about underrated guns or the mp5/mpx comparaison, you are amazing guys ! Maybe a video about the mas 223 one day ? Cheers from France ! ^^
TFB TV I tried, it's quite difficult whenever James came on the screen my eyes unknowingly went to his attire instead of fixing on his face listening him. It was thanks to Karl and Mishico that I was brought back from the brink or otherwise I would have wasted the entire video thinking how far can James take it.
Thank you for the videos always makes me laugh and I learn alot! AK platform is just as good as the AR if you are making them properly! Take care brotha!
Here in Vietnam. When i was in army i have chance to test Ak-47 and M-16(1st gen). AK-47 have heavy ammo, lower velocity than M-16 so it got rainbow like ballistic and quite high recoil. That mean in standard sight you must aim lower in short range and higher in long range, but you can control that with training, Vietnamese soldiers used 2 rounds burst trick to control the gun. M16 have longer barrel, lighter ammo make its have more straight ballistic but because of high rate of fire, 20 rounds mag (you must to to reload and start to take the aim again more sequence), the barrel get hot so fast. Make that inaccurate uncontrollable. In term Vietnam war, the battle most of the time is close to mid range, and its make AK have huge advantage again M-16.
My dad keeps saying that also it's parts are extremely simple and cheap. That you can go to any smith anywhere and he could easily make the ak parts himself unlike other guns where you need specific manufacturers to make the specific parts of the gun
In normal conditions that isn't being put in a wheelbarrow full of mud the AK is very reliable as said in the video, but if problems do arise, it can probably be fixed with a hammer.
TFB TV Oh man that's from the first season of X-Flies that they relaunched over the last few years. I think it was the pants suits and her hair that made her look less attractive in the 90's. She dressed like Hillary Clinton back then... 😖
Everything in the 90s was inherently ugly and unattractive, but Scully was definitely hotter when she was younger. You have to try really hard to separate her pants-suits from Shillary's, ain't no coming back from that.
Panzerstorm I don't agree, Xena Warrior Princess was without a doubt hot. Then you had Deanna Troi from Star Trek TNG who was a cutie too. The only one who was overrated in hottness was Pamela Anderson from Baywatch, she did nothing for me. But the 90's did have some cute girls on TV. As for Scully, no doubt she was more attractive back then but the way she wore her hair and those pants suits really detracted from her looks.
I saw a weapons cash being surrendered in South Africa that was 20 years old ! The EOD sgt poured a little oil on the receiver kicked the bolt back and loaded a round ( a loaded magazine was already in it) and fired away on automatic!
As someone who has fired both an ak and ar with similar, if not identical, barrel lengths, i can say that an ak’s rear aperture being forward of the weapon’s action made it more difficult to reacquire the target after the first shot. The smoke and such from the initial shot escapes and covers much of the rear aperture and delayed my follow ups. Comparatively speaking i could put followups from an ar faster than i could with an ak. Maybe thats just me
Another thing people do, mostly new owners of AKs, is never sight their rifles. Its really odd, but most of the time, they don't adjust the front sight at all, then complain that the rifle isn't accurate. Pretty much all AKs require a tweak of the front tight since the barrels can be canted.
Long sleeve shirt and shorts? Obviously the wife forgot to dress you that morning.... These atheistic filming locations though. When is the James "Operator" Reeves Ghost Catchers series coming?
Glad you approve of the filming spot. I asked Linds if it looked too uninviting and desolate, but she said that it was just the right amount of desolation. And the alignment looked good. - James
I still believe that an M16 or an M4 is more accurate than an AK-47 although at close range there is not much difference in accuracy, at longer distances the M16 & M4 are more accurate than an AK-47 due to the cartridge that these rifles are chambered for. 5.56x45mm(M16 &M4) is a cartridge that is lighter than the 7.62x39mm(AK-47) cartridge but is going much faster than the 7.62x39mm cartridge.
crackshot 488 finally I have found someone who see right. Yes sir the ammunition used in a firearm must be count in. I have fired AK while in the military for years and I know what this weapon can do but you can't ask the same accuracy from a firearm chambered in a bigger caliber that fires a heavier bullet. And let's not forget the barrel length. Personally I have never liked the AK's sights, but if you train you can fire as good as any other rifle. Best regards.
And there is AK-74(M) in 5.45x39mm, that is USSR/Russia main assalt rifle in service since 1978. 5.45x39mm has almost the same (if not better) balistic as 5.56x45mm but better effect on a target at far/subsonic fase (it didn't counts on expansion like 5.56 it counts on tumbling).
even in the video itself they go from claiming that 2" group is "basically the same as 1.75" with AR, they also later admit they see 3"+ groupings too ... the reality of the matter is, the 7.62x39 chambered AK is at average 2-5" grouping gun where AR is supposed to be under 2"... yes AK IS the less accurate weapon, mostly due to cartridge limitations but that DOESNT mean its bad, on the contrary under 300m range the AK is more than accurate enough AND hits harder than ARs small projectile, beyond that range the AK quickly falls off in effectivity but guess what AR isnt that much better either. Neither of them is powerful enough to be really reliable at longer (meaning 500m+) ranges BUT the AK round is certainly more effective at shorter ranges
@@snek9353 a bit more accurate sure a VERY sligtly more accurate ... and much less reliable ... its a tradeoff, if you really want that slight edge in accuracy - which is basically irrelevant under 300m range anyway - DI will give you what you ask for, but for real combat the reliability, longevity and lower maintenance requirements far outweigh an effect of non free-float barrel. direct impingement is really not a great system for anything but a sports rifle, all modern military rifles these days use short stroke piston, AR type rifle is basically only military rifle i know of that uses DI and as for 300BLK as far as i know it has the same ballistic characteristics as 7.62x39, it was DESIGNED for it, the only difference is that its suitable for AR platform feeding and magazine style where normal 7.62x39 had issues because of its geometry. In other words the free float barel capability and overall ergonomics of AR platform are the only differences between AK and AR in 300BLK... and you can fit in-line with barrel stock on on AK or SA Vz. 58 rifle making the only remaining factor a free-float or non-free float. and any soldier worth his salt will ALWAYS choose piston driven rifles reliability and lower maintenance requirements over direct impingement and free floated barrel. Leave FFB to snipers, combat rifle for ordinary cannon fodder doesnt need it.
One thing that I definitely like about the AK-47 over the AR-15...I took a full day of instruction in basic training to learn how to take apart the M16A2 and put it back together. They didn't let us even attempt to take it apart until we had completed the instruction phase. There are quite a few small parts inside that you can easily lose while field stripping. The AK has five if I recall correctly: Upper receiver, lower receiver, bolt carrier, bolt, and firing pin. I learned how to field strip an AK-47 in two minutes. It is also nearly impossible to assemble incorrectly and thereby render inoperative.

Sure it's less accurate at range compared to the AR but and AR bullet wont do to much damage if you hit a long shot

Aks also need special equipment to stamp.

Mishaco has one of the most underrated channels.
Excellent. This is a very necessary video given the myths / legends surrounding the Kalashnikov.
10 MOA???!! LOL that's not even "practical" accuracy. What AK were they shooting to get that group and how drunk were they?
AK + Vodka
I guarantee that number comes from some fake expert who has never fired an AK.
Imperator Phil it also could be that retired Lt Gen that showed us all on CNN how to go "full semi auto"
10 MOA? That’s like at 10yr olds groups when he is first shooting a sling shot.
Full auto?
The way he stands... The way he holds his hands... His demeanor... You know I had to do it to em. AK didn't stand a chance.
So basically people just didn't know how to properly use the AK sights and instead of showing weakness, they started a rumor it isn't accurate.
I mean, I know how to run AK sights properly. They're just bad. That rear sight is junk.
You can't compare a notch and post to a peep sight setup. The peep sight is always going to give you superior accuracy.
RAAAAAGH FULL AUTO!! Y I NOT HITTING ANYTHING WITH THIS PIECE OF SHIT :,(
Haha our troops in ww1 and ww2 did the same thing with the 1911.
Again...

Would you say it's a good rifle for a first time rifle owner?
100% depends on what you want to do with it. The rifle you want for home defense isn't the same rifle you want to bring on safari. If local laws allow a mid grade $800-1110 .223 caliber AR-15 is a good choice for home defense or competition shooting.
How long will it take the state of California to regulate tactical short-shorts?
GearSolidSnake It will depend on pocket capacity, quantity and if they have detachable lowers to convert them into full length pants lol. His might be compliant at this point.
"Nobody *needs* these military style assault shorts for hunting! They're only for killing!"
It has nothing to do with hunting! The British had pantaloons of the time and our Founders would have wanted all citizens to have access to the same. Times change but they certainly would have wanted us to have access to slick assault style shorts like these to prevent tyranny!
It’s going to have “fixed” pockets.

Well holy shit thanks never knew that 😉👌👍
The fact that AK-47 was designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov is a myth created by Soviet propaganda.
Reference:
In 1946 Hugo Schmeisser turned 62 years old.

6MOA @100? WTF? That is the shooter not the AK!
With the iron sights, I would wager doing much better than 6MOA is a feat.
I don't think they were bashing the Mosin for accuracy, because it is a very accurate rifle, but for the infamously sticky bolt vs the Mauser's famously smooth action.
@NWA744
They bashed the fuck out of the Mosin's accuracy.
Looking at prices (in NZ mind) - a 20 tonne Press is ~$500-700 (brand new)
A second hand Mill, the roughest I could find, was still about $2,000. Brand new (so comparing like-for-like) - You are looking at $20+K
I mean you could say 'Ah, but without the Dies, a 20 tonne press is useless' - but I'd counter with 'I haven't included the cost of tooling with the Mill either'
In addition - Stamping parts doesn't allow for the quality control that a skilled machinist can achieve with a lathe/mill.
Do this for the AR-15 if you weren't already planning to do it.
I would like to say mine about the first two miths:
1) Although accuracy heavily depends on the kind of system you are using (e.g. bolt action vs semiauto) it also depends on the manufacturing quality.

With regards to iron sights, I think what makes more difference in practical accuracy is the fact AR's generally use aperture sights, while AK tend to have notch rear sights, rather than sight radius.
Aperture sights make a big difference for me and always have, across a lifetime and a variety of rifles...

'Nam Vets are great people, but their mindset about Weapons might be outdated
and now that ak's are made by low-end companies not city sized factories the quality of an ak may be, well terrible and MORE expensive than an ar.
You ever seen the quality of a legit Romanian parts kit? Even with huge, state-run factories, quality could be extremely poor.

They mean "Hey look, I dropped my phone on concrete for the 30th time today, but it's ok cause it's a Nokia"

When you spend 20 million dollars on equipment to make *one* 30,000 dollar car, then yes, the car car is not cheap to make at all
However, when you spend 20 million dollars on equipment to make *10 million* 30,000 dollar cars, then you're making a fucking enormous profit. That's why the soviets spent so much on those factories, to mass produce the AKs and make a huge profit on them. (Or for the military but whatever)
Soviet anthem *intensifies*
i must say that i enjoy your videos very much, especially the ones about underrated guns or the mp5/mpx comparaison, you are amazing guys !
Maybe a video about the mas 223 one day ? Cheers from France ! ^^
I am confused whether to look at James's shorts or to see another good video on TFBTV.
WHY NOT BOTH?
TFB TV I tried, it's quite difficult whenever James came on the screen my eyes unknowingly went to his attire instead of fixing on his face listening him. It was thanks to Karl and Mishico that I was brought back from the brink or otherwise I would have wasted the entire video thinking how far can James take it.
Thank you for the videos always makes me laugh and I learn alot! AK platform is just as good as the AR if you are making them properly! Take care brotha!
Man I think he wears his boxers, just to see how far he can go before someone calls the police on his ass
Pretty sure it was the SKS-21 that won that war.
Long Vu, I think the original M16 was a really poor weapon on wet conditions, the A1 variant was much better.
Cool Video! Especially having Misha in it! 👍👍
My dad keeps saying that also it's parts are extremely simple and cheap. That you can go to any smith anywhere and he could easily make the ak parts himself unlike other guns where you need specific manufacturers to make the specific parts of the gun
0:00 banner at the bottom ... still listening
0:07 banner disappears ... OMFGWTFBBQBATMANLOL
In normal conditions that isn't being put in a wheelbarrow full of mud the AK is very reliable as said in the video, but if problems do arise, it can probably be fixed with a hammer.
A little off topic but is it only me, or did Scully from X-Files get hotter as she got older? 😍
Yes.

As for Scully, no doubt she was more attractive back then but the way she wore her hair and those pants suits really detracted from her looks.
chrisloUSA well look, I'm not saying women were magically uglier in the 90s, but the fashion definitely was
I saw a weapons cash being surrendered in South Africa that was 20 years old ! The EOD sgt poured a little oil on the receiver kicked the bolt back and loaded a round ( a loaded magazine was already in it) and fired away on automatic!
Make more ak videos I love watching them
Hey that’s the factory in New Orleans where I used to ride my dirt bike dam nice to see some old memories
That's a damn fine video, thanks
As someone who has fired both an ak and ar with similar, if not identical, barrel lengths, i can say that an ak’s rear aperture being forward of the weapon’s action made it more difficult to reacquire the target after the first shot. The smoke and such from the initial shot escapes and covers much of the rear aperture and delayed my follow ups. Comparatively speaking i could put followups from an ar faster than i could with an ak. Maybe thats just me
Where are you filming that? The background is fantastic.
An abandoned factory on the Mississippi River.
And thanks!
- James
Good call getting Mishico on this is an ak god lol
Thanks for your comment and I also have found someone who sees it right.
@@snek9353 a bit more accurate sure a VERY sligtly more accurate ... and much less reliable ... its a tradeoff, if you really want that slight edge in accuracy - which is basically irrelevant under 300m range anyway - DI will give you what you ask for, but for real combat the reliability, longevity and lower maintenance requirements far outweigh an effect of non free-float barrel.
direct impingement is really not a great system for anything but a sports rifle, all modern military rifles these days use short stroke piston, AR type rifle is basically only military rifle i know of that uses DI
and as for 300BLK as far as i know it has the same ballistic characteristics as 7.62x39, it was DESIGNED for it, the only difference is that its suitable for AR platform feeding and magazine style where normal 7.62x39 had issues because of its geometry.
Your AK has a upper and a lower receiver ?
Nice backdrop of "Da Parish".
Didn't know Misciko was so widely known. Much respect for having him.
If the ak would be inaccurate it wouldn’t be that popular
It would be trash then
