I am not sure what tac would have done when going down to the base… but the base should have been at least plate compacted and then he should have had at least 1/2” of material over grade and used a vibratory roller, then hot rubber sealed the perimeter… Could have done 1” compacted, then tac’d then overlay to make up the difference? Seems like a lot of work.
forget to compact the base before paving? I'm self taught and I know to compact the sub base and when laying the asphalt by hand I pave in lifts if its thick and your last layer has to be paved above the surrounding surface before compaction. I'd like to see that patch about 3 mos. after it was paved. Probably sits 1" below the original pavement. Must not be much competition where he is.
No compaction of the underlying grade either. Underlying soil instability is likely the reason is was crap to begin with. Without it, not sure how its going to last longer than 2 or 3 years...Unless no one ever drives on it? Maybe a temporary bandaid is all they needed. He did say he’s been trying to convince them to re do the whole thing.
And they didn't even put down any tacking oil to help the asphalt bond with the base material! Not very good work there, I would definitely not hire them for anything
Dude not olny the tack when you lute your supposed to bulid your edge up 7/8 of an inch above the existing surface and tamping with feet I bet money that patch sunk with in a week
When I heard “ I’m the best asphalt seal coater in the planet” I knew this was gonna be great🤦♂️💀 I think it’s time for him to retire and dude walking on it to pack it..first car to drive on that is gonna sink
It was sarcasm. And he specifically in the beggining of the video told you he has been telling the owner they need to redo the whole thing. They are a church and obviously dont have the money for anything but the cheapest bandaid options.
“Best asphalt sealer in the world” As an employer it is your duty to provide the employee with the adequate PPE especially Hi-Vis! Followed by correct signage, barriers or cones so that pedestrians don’t enter the work space. No compaction of the type-1 stone. No asphalt bond adhesive applied to the base and edges of the new patch. No vibrating roller in order to compact and level the asphalt correctly. I’d say you’ll be coming back to re-dig and re-seal in a few years time.
I’m laughing my butt off seeing that guy pack the patch with asphalt shoes. Those are meant for spots the wacker and roller can’t get to very well like around a light poll.
Amazing! How is this man was able to keep his business running for 15 years doing scam jobs like this. Makes me think I should open a asphalt business too.
Dave its good to see your business is doing well! I remember you from my sealcoating days. You were a great competitor of ours. worked with my uncle jeff and aunt nancy at blue water sealcoating from 15 to 22. Keep up the great work and i look foward to seeing the Port Huron area filled with the STRAND signature this summer!
I think this guy is missing a roller to roll out the patch job plus he needs to apply more tack to the edges and a little within the patch . but first he should have compacted the base before shoveling ashpalt on it
Getting that asphalt mighty hot in the box are we dave? You know its not supposed to smoke like that, that would be the binder burning out of it. No tack, not to mention the perfect 150lbs of compaction 👌. I think I could run a buisness where I promise to patch asphalt but really slap the customer in the balls, tell him to kill himself, and charge him $1200 and it would be less of a scam then this shit.
Learn to pay attention. This was done as cheap as possible because it is a church and they couldnt afford anything else. Unless maybe you are saints and will do jobs for free for those that cannot afford them?
Well as they say we’re only as good as our last job!! For the best seal coater in the world you should have got that weed out of patch area before you put it down. I’m just disappointed in you sir. Ima have to come where your at to show how it’s done.🤷♂️🕺🏼
I would like to post some videos of how it's really Done. But then everybody would see how easy and simple I can do it...that everybody would do it my way and I would have nothing to complain about....
If you really didn’t want to do it or knowing it wasn’t the right fix, then why did u do it? I would think that a company would know what to take on and what not to.
What’s with the blower following the K7? If you can’t stand the dust go flip burgers. The whole Parking lot was alligatored, wich means next rain, water will lift all new asphalt and wash it out, especially with no tack oil and bad compacting. I’m guessing his business goes under different names for every job lol
The best in the business would have repacked sub base, then tacked the edges, laid a base, then compacted it, then tacked the base lift, and laid the top... And used a roller to compact it. I have no problem with how you choose to work, but when you claim to be the best in the world I take offense to the crap work I just watched you do.
You seem to know your stuff please give me some advice. I have 2 potholes on my street and bought some cold patch and a tamper and also a big propane torch even tho it’s cold patch. Do you think if I heat up the pothole and patch it and heat the patch and tamp it that would be a good job? How about 3/4” stone on top of the patch after tamped in? Thanks man!!
@@chrisreynolds2410 clean the holes well and blow them out with a blower. If you are person who is not in the trade of asphalt i would suggest you ditch the cold patch and use a product called aqua patch. Fill the hole, tamp, add water. Done. So Dave...... how can you be the best when I’m the best. Haha! So I’m gonna have to say that your patch is gonna sink. You know why I’m saying that, you’ve heard it all before. But I’m gonna say it again. As a rule of thumb, account for a half inch for every inch, for proper compaction. Although I’m not in the field with you, that looked a bit low.
Lol, no compaction of loose dirt after removing the asphalt. Followed by compacting the asphalt with feet. Why not invest in a Jumping Jack and Plate Tamper? Never mind just blowing the silica dust away with a leaf blower as they cut. If you're not going to meet OSHA requirements, at least use a god damn spray bottle to keep the dust down, LOL. This asphalt will not last long, sorry to say. Pretty shoddy work. The "best" would dig down the patch a couple feet, hit it with a Jumping Jack, put some clean stone at the top, hit it again. Proceed to then put the asphalt down and actually compact it to standards. It's actually baffling this video has one dislike.
There's a vibratory plate compactor in the background which should give you an idea that it'll be used later. But hey, who cares? You just wanted to pretend like you're a smartass and everyone else is stupid, huh?
Best asphalt and sealcoat my ass, wheres your tac coat? And that tractor boy shew been around as long as you have... imma have to make an video and show you how it's really done...
Well that will fail! No base, no sealant to the edges, just a complete mess! All that earth should have been dug out as well, the thickness of the asphalt should be 4 times the dimensions of the largest rock in the asphalt mix! Completely clueless!
He's the best in the world???? Are you fricking kidding me. I've never used steel flat booties to flatin a patch There's a viborplate just sitting... how Embarrassing !!! At least the patch blinds in well with the rest of the parking lot . I'd run these boys down the road ..........Amateurs........
Lol he could teach his guys how to use a concrete saw better too. One guy is straining is back. Im sure it was atleast a little sore after cutting. You don't hold the back of the saw up in the air you rest it on those little rubber pads and lean the saw into the material.
Where do I begin all the mistakes made here. Not compacting subgrade, no ground sterilization used, definitely wouldn't be laying asphalt over vegetation, would highly recommend a oil tac oil applied, compacting asphalt with tap shoes - - - - me, probably wouldn't lay asphalt an inch thick, but what would I know with our five-star rating. Best asphalt sealcoating. LOL, Maybe for the state you're in. Black is beautiful Asphalt Paving and maintenance. Just in case you want to call for. any advise. I almost feel like Eminem wasting his time on MGK.
No compacting the base?? No tack to make it stick? And where the hell did you find that lute man ???? What’s up with that old ass tractor? I’m starting to think the only thing you are the “best” at is blowing smoke. I wouldnt hire you guys to run my bath water
KFC now fixes asphalt wow times changed

That’s the 1st thing I though when I saw this guy lol 😂

This should be titled “How to not patch asphalt properly”
But when you tell a pompas person something that knows it all. At least he blew off the concrete when. Other won't ....rolls eyes.
What did he do wrong?
@@johnc646 I don’t think he tacked it. Nor did he put a lip on the edge. Then he used feet to compact it. You should wack it then roll it.

you are so right so many things done wrong here
Wow and this is the same type of guy that would have the guts to call someone a scammer 🤣🤣🤣
Wouldn't the first car that drove across this patch leave a rut, I thought you had to compress asphalt with a roller or Tamp at least?
guess where the first puddle is gonna lay

Hard to pave in half inch in two lifts. Duh LOL
Yeah as it can settle over time so always best to over lay then compact down
Right on plus where is the bitch for the edges.
Really... just packing it by walking on it ?

he said he is not like others.
With my experience with asphalt if the base of the patch is stone tack oil is not necessary
@@collinwilliams8688 tack always tack at least at minimum the edges of the hole it prevents water from getting in the patch and causing a blowout
