This was the best tutorial i've ever found!!!! Soooo clear and easy to follow, amazing that you went to the effort to even put the notes/correct fingering next to the chord diagrams. THANK YOU

I would say "#11" over "b5" on the Major Chords (Lydian Mode).

@@duncanwilson2803 the natural 11 you mentioned is F#?, i don get it, the F,F# and G implies cromatism, that shouldnt be if we want to keep the tonality. A natural 11 from the Dbmaj dont sound like a posibility for me

Just perfect. Thank you so much. The 3 people who disliked that were probably to play only WHITE notes.

Quick question, in the verse I know the progression would go 1- 6-3 but what would the Dbmaj7b5 be considered as in the numbering system?? or is it just a sort of chromatic passing chord ?? I'm trying to figure out why and how he decided to use that chord as Db major wouldn't usually be played in the key of c minor- still learning piano btw so don't judge lool

Haha no problem that’s really a good question actually. The Db can’t be in the number system since it isn’t in the key of Cm as you pointed out. You can pretty much do whatever you like and get out of the diatonic frame meaning playing things outside of the key, but it has to be based on some principles for it to have some sort of logic and actually sound good. I Coverdale of those principles in my WhyItWorks series (check our playlist). Here I’d say that the Db is acting as the dominant (V) by a tritone substitution, even tho the chord it self doesn’t have a tritone Db is still a tritone away from G. It’s hard to cover it in text form but you’ll see other examples of it in my series. Cheers!

@@musicgreatness9987 Sick !! thanks for the reply, I was also wondering if the Dbmaj7b5 could be seen as a Neopolitan chord if the songs in c minor as it is a flat 2nd away from c ( the tonic)

@@musicgreatness9987 don't mean to get off in the weeds, but that Db actually does have a tritone in it, Db and G which one would find in an Eb or A7 chord or a E minor 6, I appreciate the discussion, thanks so much.
