Colwin, this is my favorite way to celebrate COVID isolation. I go back to school with you; remember what I've forgotten; go out to the hobby shop; realize that I need to go back to class; then start the cycle over again. I'm certain that I join many in thanking you for your pleasant contribution to the world of turning.
Hi Colwin, I just looked at this again. Is there any possibility that you could re-record this with your updated cameras, to improve on the presentation quality. Excellent tips on your skew chisels and sharpening!
Excellent tutorial really enjoying the series it's just a shame the camera was out of focus throughout the video and much of it was unwatchable is there anyway you can tell while filming if it is in focus. Best regards Andy
Hello Colwin.love the way you talk us through the various aspects of the different tools and how to use them .can you please tell me ,how tall are you and what is the height of your lathe to the centre of the chuck ,as I think my lathe is a bit high for me at 5,7 . Would really appreciate your view. Thank you ,,,,,Doug
Hi Doug, thanks for your message. The following reply is from Colwin - "I can tell you the height of my lathe, which is 1150mm. However, the most important thing is to have it the right height for you which generally is measured by your elbow height when stood straight to the centre height of the lathe."
Really enjoying this series of skill videos, I would love them even more if the images were sharp and not constantly going out of focus. I think I am right in believing that you are using an iPhone or similar, has it got a focus lock as it seems to be continually hunting for focus especially when shavings are flying off the tool. Anyway I will still continue watching because I am learning a lot even through the fuzz.
Thanks Carl! The following reply is from Colwin "Yes, especially if you're new to using a skew, as the timber would stop if you had a catch." I hope this helps :)
Thanks for your feedback. This was an old video from during lockdown. We have since produced more skew chisel videos which we hope are a little clearer! Thanks for watching
Hi Colwyn I really enjoyed your video, however the quality wasn't quite up to you usual standard. May I suggest that the auto focus is turned off as it kept going out of focus.
I’m finding these videos really useful but please could you change how you title them, as UA-cam truncates the titles so all I see are dozens of videos titled “skillscenterathome - live turning Tuesday - turning a...” which it makes it very challenging to find the video you want.
Hi David, thanks for the feedback - this was filmed a while ago. This video here ua-cam.com/users/liveTWnA37u31NA has some more great tips on using a skew
Best educator on you tube. Thank you

Thanks again for the time and effort. I love the woodturning videos.

Thank you! This was a great refresher to watch on a long flight today!
An excellent demonstration Colwin.
Stay safe
Cheers
Mike
Excellent video,
Thanks
James
Excellent tutorial, shame about the poor picture quality, makes watching very difficult.
Great lesson on using the skew; a tool that I am afraid to use and one necessary to turn wood well.
We're loving it! great series
very interesting I like the flowers.might try some myself

Your craftsmanship and teaching are so great. Too bad about the poor video quality..
Great class. I’m just catching up. Going backwards from your latest.
Hi love the vids but this vid keeps going out of focus is it the camera man or my pc.?

How far above center do you place the tool rest for the skew?
Hi L Parker, the following reply is from Colwin - "Anything up to 6mm above and will depend on the users height and diameter of the project."
How about using a cup drive especially when using a skew? Love your channel !

👍👍
That was very helpful and very much appreciated. Thank you (-:
I much enjoy your videos , but camera could be clearer?
Thanks

Great explanation and video. shame the cameraman can’t keep picture in focus
Hi Colwyn I really enjoyed your video, however the quality wasn't quite up to you usual standard. May I suggest that the auto focus is turned off as it kept going out of focus.
Just a question, why does the camera keep going out of focus?
it's not an Axminster :)

Looked forward to watching this video but just can't, the camera keeps going out of focus. Damn shame.
I'm sorry you experienced difficulties in watching this video. Thank you for the feedback.
can't see the pictures all blared.
Either my internet is playing up / or its poor Quality Video?
At times the picture s out of focus.
Great content, but the picture quality is terrible! Keeps pixellating.
Great Subject but the Video keeps coming into and out of focus.
Hi David, thanks for the feedback - this was filmed a while ago. This video here ua-cam.com/users/liveTWnA37u31NA has some more great tips on using a skew
Camera was out of focus most of the time.
Focus
Enjoy the teaching but the camera doesn't seem to be able to keep focus which is very disorienting
CAMERA IS IN AND OUT OF FOCUS.
Thanks for the feedback and thank you for watching
What a shame the camera work is so poor. Focus , Focus, Focus, this was so distracting.
Please buy Charlie a proper camera - the focus hunting, weird zooming and low quality spoils all your efforts!
95 % is blur not much of sharpness....
I could learn so much more if I could actually see what you are doing. PLEASE FIX YOUR FOCUS problems.
Too much talking
IMHO he explains just right amount. I’ve been turning for years but have memory issues and need the refresher. This video was just what the ticket.
