CAMBODIAN GIRLS gave me some SPECIAL MEAT

  • During my trip to Cambodia, I stayed in a remote village about 2 hours away from Siem Reap. Khmer people here do not see foreigners often and still retain a lot of old customs including eating dog meat. Yes, in certain parts of Cambodia, it's considered delicacy and of course, they wanted me to feel welcome to their village so the girls went out and got us some "special meat" or "SACH KO THRUK" Here is a typical day in the village where I stayed while visiting.

    The part that you drop the cricket, than pick it up like you about to eat it. Than put its back in the bowl and pretended like nothing happens. That was a good one though 😂 😂 😂

    It's funny how Asian and Latin American cultures are very similar in some ways.

      Statefarm, I might be wrong but I think Asian hominids crossed into America about 20,000yrs ago so are genetically similar.
      Of course you then had Spanish colonialists adding to the American gene pool.

    Chla is sliced Betel nuts. A little bitter. Old people like to chew it with ma lu leaf and pink paste made from shells like clams and oysters. The betel and the leaves gives off a numbing sensation and bit high, Kind of like chewing coffee leaf. It made your teeth strong but turns it black after many chews.

    When they said "Dog meat", they mean it. I won't eat the dog meat. Most Cambodia people don't eat it. We should educate people who consume dog. Dog is smart and they can protect you from danger.

    • @freddy2651
      @freddy2651 5 років тому

      Kor Chul So do you eat other animal's meat? if so can you tell me what's the difference? just because human chose to honour dogs as their pet more than other species? All animals should be valued equally. Although I personally have no special interest in consuming dogs, I respect people who do eat it.

    Yeah, it's dog. It's a delicacy almost. My neighbour in Phnom Penh loves it, I won't eat it. It's not common in Cambodia, more in Vietnam. They have dog snatchers there. Cat is more common I think than dog, they must have got it for you, because special occasion. It's also illegal, not that that means much in the countryside, when the police chief likes it more than you. Cheers.

    • @saviyou
      @saviyou  6 років тому +2

      Apparently it’s more common in the rural area and yes you’re right...eating dog meat (and eat) came from Vietnamese culture.

    • @saviyou
      @saviyou  6 років тому

      I can hold an awkward conversation in khmer...it happened to me while I was sitting in the house we rented in Siem Reap. Everyone was gone and one of my cousins showed up. He didn't speak ANY english so I sat with him for about an hour trying to talk. I understand more than I can speak if that makes sense? The words just don't come to me fast enough for a fluid conversation.

    • @conniewesley6731

      Us Cambodian kids who have fled the country at a young age can only speak basic Cambodian language. I understood a lot but when I try to speak the words just didn’t come out as fluent as English.

      my brother was born in cambodia, he understands but his khmer isnt great, most khmer ppl dont understand him when he speaks, a lot of my guy cousins in New zealand dont speak it either but all the girls can even the ones born inNZ, i was born in thailand before we moved to NZ when i was 2, my khmer is much better than his. my sister learnt how to read and write khmer here,its up to the person, everyone is different, i like being able to speak two languages, i speak khmer to my daughter and she is half european.
