  • A condensed and easy-to-understand video explaining the shooting space rule in girls' and women's lacrosse. Great for players, parents, coaches, officials, fans.

Great analysis. Isn't there any more ways to complicate this? I'd like to hear them because US Lacrosse has med this absolutely impossible to determine. Absolutely terrible rule as it is now. Great way to kill a great game.

What a dumb rule in a dumb game. Put helmets on girls and let them play the exact same game as the boys.

As of 2017, FHSA rules changed that the offensive player doesn't need to be looking to shoot for Shooting Space to be called. Not sure if this change is US Lacrosse Men's rules as well.

There is nothing like the shooting space rule in Mens. Not even remotely. Can shoot when and wherever you want. And be wherever on a shot. Plenty of defenders eat shots during games.

There is no way high school refs can control this. I have watched this all season and there is no consistent call on this rule at level. Taller girls always toss above defenders which you indicated is not proper shot

Have you ever played lacrosse? I have and the refs try their best to call it but sometimes they can’t see it. Please know what your talking about before you put it on the internet.

Looking forward when everyone will be rewarded the goal on shooting space instead of having the goal taken away then having to take the 8 meter shot. Never understood that part of the rule why you are taking away a goal because of a defensive foul.

A free position at the 8 is already a big advantage given. Then, you have the safety issue, If there is a shooting space situation the girl in front of the shooter is, according to the umpire, in danger and may sustain an injury, hence the immediate whistle. The whistle, as explained in the video, is a clear sign for goalies and they are used to relax as soon as they hear it, it would not be fair then to allow a goal that shouldn't have been taken in the first place because a whistle was blow to stop the game.

Women’s lacrosse has waaaaay too many rules. We stop too many times and can’t enjoy focusing on just getting to goal.

This promotes hacking at shooter to get a call and reversing goals.

Nah, an 8m is an advantage and much harder for the goalie to stop.
