Awesome video! You are blessed to be able to fish from your backyard! I remember when I was a teenager getting into fishing, I always thought it was how far I could cast into the water... as an adult fisher, I realize that it is more about strategy and placement of the cast then distance lol!

In my opinion, for inshore fish (drum, stripers, etc.) the larger the fish, the spongier the meat. I've caught huge black drum from the surf and boat, but released....the 8- 10 lb'ers, though ...delish! fine, thick white fillets, very versatile for prepping. I've eaten red drum...once, fried (which really, what fish fried isn't good??? lol )but never caught one myself due to mitigating circumstances (had 2 trips cancelled in New Orleans). Are their flesh so different??
Exciting video Stephen. 20-25 years ago I was in Cedar Key Fl. after reds and trout. I was casting live shrimp trying for reds when I hooked a 30 lb. black drum. At that time it was the biggest fish I had ever caught. Especially fun on the Shimano 4000 reel I was using. Thanks for the quality content you consistently put out.
i use 4/0 circle hooks on my 400 reels that have 30lb braid and 6/0 circle hooks on my 6000 and 8000 size reels with 80lb braid. my 10000 has 100lb braid and 8/0 circle hook. would love to fish where you are.

I'd sell my soul to the devil to live in a place just like that, where coming out of my bed, bright and shiny, I can grab a rod and a hanfull of bait and then have them fish dancing at the end of the line ! Keep one for lunch and then let the other ones be another meal for the next day
Great video, but you should have released that over slot redfish. That's what the SLOT is. You can only keep between 16 and 26 inches in Alabama. I know your fish and video are great, and I hate to be the guy, but I know someone who recorded their 42" snook that they took home and the Florida Wildlife Dept fined them and so did youtube. It was a hefty fine too. I love your videos and don't want to see that happen to you. (At least edit it) ❤❤❤🐟🐠🐡🦈

I also appreciate your service to our nation while in the Army. I'm an old mud hole sailor (Marine) with 17 years of honorable service with no combat experience. I came close to entering the Gulf war but it ended two hours before I was suppose to go. I guess somebody must have spilled the beans that I was on my way! 🤣 I have the utmost respect for combat vets regardless of what branch of service. God bless you and be safe!

Great video, especially the kayak section. In 2 weeks, I plan to be doing the same thing around the Fort Fisher NC area. A bit of a teaser trip to another planned trip in October with family. Hopefully, i will have some good luck. Thanks for a great video.
Crazy in Florida black drum don't normally eat cut bait . It's usually got to be shrimp clams oysters crabs even sand fleas but very rarely do you catch one on cut fish they'll turn their nose up at it and go right by it.

You know, with you putting out bait traps with food draws in the bait fish, and that draws in the big fish to come here to eat that bait... it is probably why the fishing is so good off your back yard.

mate how long does it take a black drum to reach that size? im from the uk and a sea bass takes 7 years to reach 42 cm which is the legal size here. regards mick

It is for most, my pilings are pretty dang old. One day I would love to rebuild my dock, it's extremely expensive down here for dock building !

Black drums hang around rocks to harvest crayfish, crabs, and other shellfish. A piece of dead fish bait tossed in front of them will not do it.
