Man this dude is a great teacher, my OG wouldn't let me touch the trowel for 4 years. I had to do my own jobs away from him just to get my flow of laying. But this guy is the truth, great job.

Your a good teacher man. I know how that guy is feeling in that moment. He just gotta remember nobody was born like that. Everyone had to learn from someone. Reps reps reps reps. He is lucky he gets a little on the job training. Not usually time for that , that's when you build a mach up in your garage and reps reps reps. Real man putting in work when nobody watching.

For a new guy I would say just make sure you keep your head joints full, try your very best to stay on bond, and about every three or four courses check it with your 4ft level just to make sure your keeping it plum. Also when you strike take your time make it look as nice as you can. If you do that you'll be laying cubes in no time.

Damion is laying his first brick, 26 mins long, bah seems about right lol Nah I really enjoyed the video, it is funny how hard it is to teach somebody, when you yourself are so good at a certain job. It is hard because you do not actually know after a long time how you do things, you just do them and so when trying to show somebody in slow mo how to do the things, it is more difficult than one might imagine lol

Damien needs to be a little bit more relaxed. But all things being equal, he went well. He just needs to remember the basics and try to apply them, especially the "Yardie flick"..... when he is laying down the mortar bed. We can just let the mortar fall off the trowel inward of our hand ,simple✔️✔️

  • @johncoppock3823

Great video from a great teacher. For Damian rock the brick into position a bit more to keep mortar in the perp, and can start scraping off before the brick fully down to try to catch more mortar to butter the end. End can also be buttered as soon as have scraping on the trowel. As things progress try to push down to minimise tapping. Great start. Look forward to future video to see how you progress.

I've watched a lot of bricklayers one thing he's doing wrong is he's not learning how to put the brick down like you do and push it pretty much in place taking too much time trying to position the brick and losing all the Mortar that he can use to butter the front for the next brick. He also needs a lot of practice on initially putting the mortar m o r t a r on the bricks from the board. The last thing I see is when he put the next brick down he puts it straight down and pushes all the Mortar off the brick that he buttered instead of putting it down on a angle like you do. I would like to see some more videos especially on how to set your corners to put your line.

It’s not the way that I would teach him. First, I would get 2 saw horses and a sheet of plywood to lay flat across them. Then, I would have him practice shaping, spreading, furrowing, and buttering his bricks, and getting full head joints just on the plywood. Then, I would have him lay 10 bricks across and just build a simple pyramid 10, 9, 8, etc. I would not introduce the string until he is comfortable with spreading mortar, staying on bond, staying on gauge, concentrating on plumb and level. He’s not ready for the string line yet. Sometimes you have to go slow at first in order to go fast later.
