Hi, Ty, can you kindly comment on minimum IPD and ability to have the power cable connected to recharge while in use (not rely on limited battery life)?
minimum is 58 but the lenses are very forgiving, so if you are a bit less don't worry! and yep, as I said at the end of the video you can play pcvr with the cable as well
I'm really tempted to get one. I haven't had a VR headset since Rift CV1, and kinda miss VR. The Pico 4 seems like a huge evolutionary step forward, and it's not made by Facebook/Meta (although it remains to be seen if Bytedance is really that much better in the privacy regard). I'll probably wait to see what Valve will offer with the Deckard - would be a huge plus to be able to just play games I already have in my Steam Library instead of having to purchase everything again. But the Pico is a strong contender, and it's good to see some mainstream oriented activity and competition in the VR space again.
Can't wait to get this to the US! The brightness loss you see is because pancake lenses have a lower light transmission than fresnel lenses, so in the future, companies need to come up with brighter screens to compensate. I'd also love OLED but I suppose with pancake lenses that is even a bigger issue as OLED screens tend to be less bright than LCD screens.
I have to say this is a much better assessment than some of the other VR content creators out there. Very honest and frank with the views and that's what we want. The Pico 4 headset remains a top standalone headset and I would say a must buy for people who want a standalone headset and don't have the Quest 2. I like the idea of pancake lenses which gives it the slim form factor and comfort but I'm still very much in the PCVR camp and the lack of brightness with the pancake design worries me a little, not sure that can be fixed in software. Nothing really here to make me move away from my HP Reverb G2. HP please please please bring out a new model and save us, PCVR users, from these standalone toys!
Hi David I'm looking to buy into VR, not sure to buy the meta quest pro or buy this pico 4... if I buy the pico then I would have enough money left to buy a laptop too for pcvr... I think the meta pro is about £1500, pico + a laptop (vr) is about £1700.... what would you recommend

Nice video! My big problem with the Pico 4 is really that the headstrap isn't removable/replaceable. Pico is putting a lot of faith into that not failing, even with it being a wearable that is the primary moving portion of the headset. The battery will slowly degrade, the ratchet might break after 1000 hours of use, and the strap itself might just snap off from wear and tear or even a drop. Sure, warranty will cover that, but it's just going to hurt the consumer with waiting for a repair and/or replacement in the mail, and also hurt the market of VR accessory manufacturers out there. I kind of just wish they'd gone with a metal magnetic contact power delivery from the battery bank behind with a snap connection instead of this. Would mean a more open market and honestly a longer life span for this product. The Quest 2 is still valid almost 3 years later now simply because people keep being able to customize it and give it a refresh. Overall excited for competition, but I can't ignore the problems with the Pico 4. It would be nice to create a 3D view in the color passthrough based in combining the data with the little Black and White sensors to make it have some depth. I don't really know if this could impact heavily on performance and specially in battery life. The thing that having only a USB C is quite bad as it limits to only charing or plugging some earphones. It would be nice to include another USB C port to get at least 2 things connected at once (even if it has to be via a dongle to connect via jack).
Finally a headset I can wear without my face feeling like a sweaty man has sat on it! Love the video! I'm just wondering how an extra battery could mount to it?

Yeah, if you want use headphone, you can use USB-C -> headphone adapter. But you cannot use powerbank this way, and that forces you use weird USB-C splitter that might not even exists. Need something with Passtrough. Problem for long play. Optional is use Bluetooth headphone from your pc, but is that really good? There are also wireless headphones with own usb stick as sender, works directly. And have controllers not even capacitive touch? How can you sign with the hands, make thumbs up and show fingers? Quest support gestures already thanks to own system and capacitive buttons.
seen other reviewers testing it on vrchat and the capacitive touch was working on the pico4, so i dont know why he said it doesent have capacitve touch on them
How about the heat? The Quest 2 is getting verry hot at the front of my head and i dont like that. I assume its much better with the Pico 4 as the batteries are in the back wich get warm as the processor does.
I have a big question. I have been using the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset for about half a year and now that I saw the pico 4 vr headset, I was thinking of selling my quest 2 vr headset and getting a pico 4 VR headset, but I have bought many games for the quest 2 vr headset and I would not like to lose those games by buying the pico four . So the question is, can quest2 buy games on the pico 4 vr headset?
It will seem to be less bright as the pancake lenses are optically inefficient - it's thier major downside/tradeoff. They work by polarising light and bouncing it between the layers of the lense which loooes brightness each time. And OLED displays are less bright to begin with than LEDs. It's the same issue that made the Apara dead on arrival but much less extreme.
How well does it preform on beatsaber, compared to Quest 2. The tracking loses att expert &expert plus makes you stand rigid and move hands in a strange robot way😅. To reduce tracking loses

Noticed you cut the part about no capacitive touch, does this mean it does have capacitive touch, or that Pico doesn't want that shown off? I haven't got any concrete info about this and it's really frustrating that it is so unclear.
Pico neo 3 link has 120Hz already, how can pico 4 set 90Hz as max and 72Hz by default? Not enough power in the xr2 to drive the 2*4K displays is my guess (vs single just below 4K on PN3L)
Tyriel, can you tell me if I have a quest 2, is it worth upgrading to a pico neo 4? I just like the lenses and wider POV which is important for me, regards
I'm definitely getting this for PC VR. Can you tell me if you tried it without the centre headstrap and if so, how did it feel? Hey could you maybe suggest to Pico to make it possible to invite people to spectate your screen when you're streaming wirelessly to your headset? The thing that having only a USB C is quite bad as it limits to only charing or plugging some earphones. It would be nice to include another USB C port to get at least 2 things connected at once (even if it has to be via a dongle to connect via jack).
Another port at the back (directly to the battery pack) would be nice to allow a cable to run down to a battery pack if wish-be.
Finally a headset I can wear without my face feeling like a sweaty man has sat on it! Love the video! I'm just wondering how an extra battery could mount to it?
The bobo strap which I think had came out
is pc vr better than on quest and is it worth getting it just for a pc vr headset?🤔🤔🤔
So with these pancake lenses. Does that mean if you have prescription lenses. They won’t be compatible? This will go for quest pro as well I’m guessing.
Can buy a prescription lenses from 3rd party. With glasses spacer can use specs
@@joshuadadad5414 thank you for your answer. I have prescription lenses as I don’t like the spacer and risk scratching the lenses with my glasses. I was seeing if the ones I have would work with the pancakes lenses at ty put it?
please tell me it can do PCVR and CHARGE, at the same time with no time limit!?!?
@@JorgTheElder Only through wireless? Yuck, that's a deal breaker.
PCVR clearly had USB C link cable option in the video.
Quest support gestures already thanks to own system and capacitive buttons.
seen other reviewers testing it on vrchat and the capacitive touch was working on the pico4, so i dont know why he said it doesent have capacitve touch on them
@@Maxdad098 any videos you could link for this? I am yet to see a thumb twitch on any of the videos I've found.
How about the heat? The Quest 2 is getting verry hot at the front of my head and i dont like that. I assume its much better with the Pico 4 as the batteries are in the back wich get warm as the processor does.
5:43 gotta appreciate the edit that went in there, great review!
As someone without a quest 2 or other vr headset, I think this will be my first one if/when it comes to us
Hey amazing review but just want to make sure,
Beatsaber is one of my fav games but couldn't see it on the games list
Was I the only one?
It will seem to be less bright as the pancake lenses are optically inefficient - it's thier major downside/tradeoff.
They work by polarising light and bouncing it between the layers of the lense which loooes brightness each time.
And OLED displays are less bright to begin with than LEDs.
It's the same issue that made the Apara dead on arrival but much less extreme.
So only wireless headphones work? Or can I use an adaptor? Lack of headphone jack is really annoying except for PCVR while sitting near the PC.
How well does it preform on beatsaber, compared to Quest 2.
The tracking loses att expert &expert plus makes you stand rigid and move hands in a strange robot way😅. To reduce tracking loses
I thought you couldn't use the wire to stream pcvr, so please confirm this? 13:25
Ooh now i get it, it doesn't support usb c to display port. Does the pico neo 3 support that?
Hello, can you tell us where is the sweet spot? It is like the reverb g2 that is just in little portion in the middle of the screen or the sweet spot it is all around the screen?? Thank you.
Thanks for the video! I’m going to wait for the Quest Pro and then decide what headset should I get.
Fov pancake lenses and weight are crucial imo
For PC gaming, should I get the HP reverb 2 or pico 4 ?
Still don't understand: Which games work with the PICO is it WMR, Oculus or Vive compatible???
You need to make a video about the new 150 degree fov, 8k microled ar glasses coming in the next year. MICLEDI Microdisplays and Kura Technologies partner on Custom MicroLED for Ultra-high Performance AR glasses, Scaling with Partners Including GlobalFoundries and TSMC.
150° field-of-view (10x that of major AR glasses),
8K resolution (4x existing),
95% transparency (4x existing),
High brightness, outdoor-viewable images with no color breakdown or front light leakage.
Compact eyeglass form factor that weighs only 80g.
Can you connect them to the cellphone and watch movies or play games on a bigger screen? Or to the laptop?
Are this stand-alone only headset?
Which is better in resolution and clarity, the Sony x9000 screen, for example, or Pico4??
Bigger FOV is the key
Not just bigger FOV also not to be blurry at the edges. In Quest 2 even look a little bit side it's blurry
Hi Tyriel, can you help to relay two questions about virtual destkop: 1) when will Pico version of Virtual Desktop release? 2) For those who bought Quest version already, do we need to purchase again? Thanks a lot!
It should release on 18th with the headset. It's a different store so requires a new purchase
I wonder how long t is gonna take until someone makes a translation layer for quest apps, so that the pico 4 can run them
Tyriel, can you tell me if I have a quest 2, is it worth upgrading to a pico neo 4? I just like the lenses and wider POV which is important for me, regards
I'm definitely getting this for PC VR. Can you tell me if you tried it without the centre headstrap and if so, how did it feel? It's a shame there's no headphone jack too but assuming Bluetooth speakers will work fine? I'd like to use the USB port for an extra battery rather then getting a USB-C to headphone jack adapter.
Here's to hoping someone design an additional battery that clips on with a headphone or usb jack out.
bluetooth is not usable for games because of the uge latency. No jack is a stupid choice of pico, they killed the pico 4 with that.
@@pubsapass1214 the latest bluetooth standard is far better than earlier iterations, but I agree no headphone jack is stupid. I'm just going to buy a small usb-headphone jack adapter though for now. Alternatively when playing pc games wirelessly, one could just use a wireless pc headset instead.
The button dedicated to sceenshots is a very smart idea !
What about the wear and tear of the polished finish front plastic ?
Is it a bit sensible to scratches ?
Hey Ty, Do you need a smartphone to run this like oculus or can you do everything from the headset?
I want one, for bigger ipd. I am going to wish for one for christmas. My ipd is 70-72, Can still use oculus quest 2 but smidge blurry
I pre-ordered the pico 4 and I'm so excited!
Been waiting for your review
Very good first impression video! This is probably the best I’ve seen so far. 👌🏻
Hey could you maybe suggest to Pico to make it possible to invite people to spectate your screen when you're streaming wirelessly to your headset? So if I want to watch a movie in VR, I could invite my brother and we could watch it together, like BigScreen, only with p2p connections instead of a 3mb/s limit or whatever..
Edit: or to the Virtual Desktop guy. He's amazing btw, VD is without a doubt the most used program on my headset.
Sorry tyriel just checking the stripe on your thumb make sure it's safe /been checked out.
Question: Can this interface with SIM racing games on STEAM? How did you get Assetto Corsa to work on this Headset in your through the lens video? Reason I ask this I dont have a wireless headset, I currently have the Oculus Rift S. thanks for any info any the video.
Hi, one more nice video. I have 1 question for a new pancake lenses. I don't see alert to sun damage. We can use in the park?
I'll be selling my Q2 and getting this. Comfort, weight and better FOV and lenses have sold me.
You can't do multitask, like going to desktop when playing game to change setting by example. Only good thing is the lens, a lot of visual glitch.
Is it not possible to use a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter for headphones?
I see most of my quest 2 games in the pico library...will the games cross over?
“Cryster Clear” 👏
Can't wait to get mine! And looking forward to seeing your review, awesome that virtual desktop already works, probably the best software i've ever bought for the quest2, haha! About the headphone though, i hope the sound is good enough that comes with it. otherwise they might be able to do a usb type one maybe. I do think that everything they come by with this one that is hardware related, will probably be fixed in the Pro version, so yeah if that turns out to be like 600 or 700 that might be something to look forward to.
Okay, I will wait for you
Hi, Head set looks great, would anyone you know if this headset is compatible with x-plane and MSFS?
Wrere is throu the linse?
Complimenti per la recensione! ero indeciso se acquistare il Quest 2 o il pico 4! alla fine ho ordinato il pico 4 su amazon e dovrei riceverlo fra un paio di giorni.
Does it have a phone app because I prefer browsing games on the phone
i like the dog :) i've ordered pico 4 today... still have to wait till november for delivery :(
I thought you were located in the states??? I see you when you hooked up you choose United kingdom. if we have the opportunity to import the pico 4 will it work in the states simply by selecting United Kingdom???
does your internet have to be good to connect it wirelessly
No headphone jack but... does it do bluetooth headphones?
How long is the cable for this? How is the wifi perf?
Does this need a Phone to activate? or a application on app store?
Can you use it for Microsoft Flight Simulator?
Most of the stuff looks similar to the Q2 the menu the headset but it’s better one thing does it have finger tracking
I want to import this helmet to Canada. Will I be able to configure it and buy the games on the store?
What about compatibility with Steam/SteamVR?
I’m exited for this headset, but I live in the us…maybe I can import it?
Love that ending..
When selecting country of region, was there an option for united states? 9:15
Let's goo! Pico 4 brief review! Thanks Ty, really want to know what you have to say so I can see if I should consider getting it. Now, to watch it.
Nice. Shame about the screen brightness and colours and the headphone jack, but otherwise certainly a surprising headset. Can't wait what software and hardware products or hacks the community comes up with.
Also, was there any noticeable amount of light getting through the sides in the end?
Thx for the impressions vid and looking forward to the review one 🙂
