Really enjoyed and I watched all these type of videos. Just pointing out that it was sometime a bit difficult to understand you (too fast even after few replays on 2 or 3 sections). I'm with a vive pro and mainly use it for Elite Dangerous... really tempted with the pico4 because god rays and weight of the vive pro...
After using Pico 4 for a few weeks exclusively, today I put on my Quest 2 again. Five minutes. That was how long I could handle. By comparison, Pico 4 is much more comfortable. I can watch two or three movies without suffering from headaches. Furthermore, every time I use Quest 2, I have to constantly readjust the strap because I lose focus constantly. Never happened when I use Pico 4 no matter how long it's on my head. If you only play SteamVR games like me, I highly suggest you try Pico 4.
If it's in your budget, which I guess is far from true for most folks, definitely try the Quest Pro to realize how far we've come. It's well worth the money if you can stomach it.
Hi ZJ. Can you help me? I just got a Pico 4. I created an account with an email address on the VR Assistant android app, verified it, all ok on the app. Then when I try to log in with that email on the Pico4 headset, it says 'This user does not exist'. Any ideas?
I hope they make that screenshot button customizable/programmable, so you can give it an other function or multiple ones, by double,or triple clicking or holding it. That would actually be awesome and make the whole button way more functional. Some people might have no interest in taking screenshots, and speaking personally i'd love to use it as a mic on/mute button for instance!
agreed, having a button that can function as 3 buttons is insane, wish it could be configured, personally i'm in it for pcvr primarily h3vr and beat saber custom tracks, so i hope i can make it serve as a slide lock or something similar
@@Ricoliets I would rather see that you'd just raise your hand above your head and press the grip for that personally, would be more real! but if it's not build in that button would be handy!
I've received my Pico 4 a few days ago and have been satisfied with it. If you find Quest 2's sweet spot area to be unusably small, like I did, you should give Pico 4 a try. I do hope someone will make third-party face cover for it. The stock one isn't bad, but I don't think it's optimal.

I tried one last week. My impressions. It's very well built. I wish it had a stereo colour passthrough camera. It was very comfy indeed and the weight is fine. I wish there was a web browser like Chrome that was built in for Web VR. It's a shame Firefox Reality has stopped being produced. The sound was really good. The image was crisp. I should have put the light leak stops on.......anyway it would be nice when the hand tracking finally comes to the headset (unless I missed that?). The app store was looking fuller than I expected. I couldn't get the pc link working on it. Wasn't sure if i did something wrong or not. I think it needs to be really easy plug and play. It would be great to see some AR games and some meditation stuff. The biggest thing for me compared to the Quest 2 was the weight factor. It was a lot easier to wear on the head for longer. I think this is the most important aspect of a VR headset over FOV and resolution. No wonder it has sold out.
The weight factor is what is making this headset tempting for me. I basically stopped using the Quest2, because I get headaches from all the weight on my forehead.
I agree with pretty much everything, after a couple weeks use. But my biggest gripe is the lenses hitting my nose because I have low IPD. If you are 62 IPD or below, I recommend waiting until a 3rd party gasket is released that protects the nose
lick, stick & stare..can useally fix IPDs over a few weeks with a lollipop. lick it, stick in the forehead, and stare... though havent tried it. nope it wont work, its only for wide IPDs
If only Pico 4 had a native DisplayPort via USB-C option. That, and OLED w/HDR, eye tracking, and maybe headset haptics like the PSVR2. Here's hoping Pico 5 has those features.
I bought a Pico 4 as a replacement for my Quest 1. I used my Quest almost exclusively for PCVR via virtual Desktop and Eleven Table Tennis (native), so I will only need to rebuy those two pieces of software and the rest of my games are on Steam. I love untethered play and wanted an HMD that is as unnoticeable as possible. Can't wait for it to arrive!
Someone should make a compatibility layer for quest apps. Porting mods and fan projects would be really easy, and you'll be able to play quest games before they get ported. Might have to run at quest resolutions but shouldn't be that big of a deal
Unless if the dev approves / ports the games themselves im not sure about that bc that could cripple the income the dev gets if they do try to port it when someone else did Cntrl c Cntrl v basically
I went from oculus quest 2 to Pico 4 and I will not switch back... That's for sure. Love this VR headset. I don't mind so much about the lack of some games. It is what it is but it still getting better in the store. Playing pcvr with these will make you get hold of some more games that are not in the store
@@somerandomperson4143 OK! That's a good thing. Hope they will bring something better than Pico 4 for the same price. Pro is better than pico 4 but the price is crazy high sadly 😐
I had a charging issue with my Quest 2, a factory reset did nothing so I returned it. It's been three weeks so I got a pico 4 to play Steam and the Rift games I have via virtual desktop. Its great for that but I am still looking forward to getting my quest back as I have applab games.
There's a issue with pancake lenses that he dosen't mention, in dimmer to dark environments, bright things on the screen reflect in the lenses and it's annoying in same games. For example, in Elite Dangerous, since it's a mostly dark game, all the menus and stuff, reflect in the lenses, and gets "worse" based on how dark the environment and if there are fewer bright things on the screen. In the dark environment/loading of the Pico, you can see 3-4 reflections of the controllers, which are very bright
I got it today and i like it a lot. Only thing is the face cushen that is too stiff but i hope Pico will add an softer one. I think the software and games are gonna be updated real soon.
Looks like there is much more detail in the Pico 4's images - the others just have black splodges where detail is supposed to be, like the F1 car's Exhaust 👍👍
I totally agree, had few headsets in the past, use them for few weeks and then finally sold them because of the bad confort !! You just don’t want to use them if you have to suffer from headaches after 30 min of use, this is why the new quest pro is a true piece of stupidity.
I've had my Pico 4 since the 18th it's a nice upgrade over the Q2. it's not a mind blowing experience but it's definitely a better headset hardware wise which is what I was looking for. I look forward to the Pico 5
Hi Tyriel and thank you for your nice work ! Please can you compare the SDE of Q2 and Pico 4 for me and tell me which looks better ? Thank you in advance !
I ordered on the 15th of october and it was supposed to be delivered today. Now my headset somehow has been delayed till november 15th. Amazon said there's nothing they can do. Hopefully it does arrive then.
The quest pro is literally 3 x the price and is actually a hardware upgrade and software upgrade. The pico 4 uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon chip as the quest 2, so performance won’t actually be much different
I'm looking to buy my first ever VR Headset, between the Quest 2 and PICO 4 which one should i get? I don't care much for gaming, I'll be mostly using it for watching movies from my PC and enjoying the VR experience (Google earth and such..)
In your case I'd recommend the Pico 4. It's one of the best VR headsets to do that with, but the Quest 2 does get a bit brighter. Personally, I don't think that extra brightness really matters, I think the Pico 4 is bright enough... and until there's an alternative that has both deep blacks and HDR, I wouldn't recommend anything else for watching movies and whatnot. Supposedly the Megane X is coming out by the end of this year and it does have those things, but it's not wireless (still chances are also it'll get delayed once more). And the PS VR2 should be coming out early next year. Again, not a cable... but should have a great experience for watching movies since it has OLED displays and HDR capability.
@@thenonexistinghero Thanks a lot for the extensive explanation. Yea so I'm planning anyway to upgrade next year, whether to the Q3 or something else better that comes out, so that's just my temporarily doorway to the VR world.
I sold my quest 2 because the lenses is not good for watching video (small sweet spot, blur and godrays outside of that). I am hoping Pico 4 will be better
Pico 4 'pancake' lenses are larger, sweetspot is over 50% (!) of lens surface, big improvement compared to the Quest 2 fresnel lenses. If you like watching (3D) movies and use the set mainly for wireless PCVR like me Pico 4 is the better choice. My Quest 2 will be sold....
I come from Q1 and it's a huge step forward in terms of visual quality. Currently upgrading my network so that the pico can compete and probably replace my rift s
@@cv3nda367 Just a heads up. know that yes, it is very well balanced. The face foam might not be too great, I really like this thing but the foam is pretty tough and presses into your face a bit. I am getting used to it though, so not too bad
Well, I am coming from a Q1 and I find it quite disappointing! I use it mainly for PC vr, games such as HL alyx, skyrim vr modded, ITR. The quality of the blacks, coming from a Q1 is a serious downgrade. Everything else is sharp, but half of the time the details in the game will be gone because of the gray colours in dark areas. So, depending on what you play and what you are used to, consider the purchase. Going from OLED to LCD can be rough.
I use mine for movies sometimes. I would say it's definitely a good one for it. The lenses look good and it's a comfortable headset to wear for long movies aswell.
I am looking VR for PC and will use it mostly for work with multiple screens. If I decide to buy 4k monitor it will cost same amount as Pico4 so I believe worth to try it. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review. You convinced me to buy a Pico 4. The most important part for me was to get rid of the annoying "God rays". Everyone says they are almost non existent, but on my Pico 4 I have the uglyest God rays I have ever seen in a VR. For example, when an area is mostly black and I have my white controllers shown on screen, I see like 3 or 4 of them "duplicated" as some kind of lower lighting sources (they follow my controller movement). Is really annoying, and it's the worst experience I've seen in a VR! Much worse than Oculus Quest 2. Everything else is looking good, but those "flares" coming all over (specially on dark scenes and high light sourced) are ruining all the experience. I am really considering sending it back, just because of that. Have you not noticed this or could be the fact that my unit is a faulty one?
I have a sort of wide face. And. Well the set feels like it's made for my face. The quest2 is definitely too narrow, with everyone who wears glasses agreeing, and pico3link is a little too wide even for my face, it does accomodate anyone though. Even more reason to find a change to test a headset on before buying. The things i've been liking about the pico4 the most literally come down to the shape of my face. And the IPD. And weight and everything but mostly the literal shape it has.
@@cristalumati pfffft... you serious?? you think CCP gives a damn about some EU rules? how much is Xi's men paying you for putting out the fire for them?
@@heyjeySigma they are forced to since all servers need to be located in EU and since EU commission makes constant checks to see if the data is sent outside EU(especially for Chinese companies). Just imagine what use case would they have with your data? learn that you with a random email like to play X game? I am talking from a software engineer point of view... Ok, so I have an unopened pico 4 on my desk that I ordered on launch. And I currently have a 3 year old Index. I have 100% PCVR Steam games. Will the pico 4 be an upgrade? I know the controllers are better on the Index, and the 120Hz, and the audio. But the weight, comfort, better lenses, resolution and ability to play wirelessly is all for Pico 4. Im afraid of the compression artifacts of VD gameplay (never tried it). What do you guys think?
Thank you, Tyriel! I came so close to buying a Pico 3, and I wish the Pico 4 had the same great wired option as the 3. I know your video explains that the paid app wireless option on the 4 is not terrible for PC games. But it leaves me hesitating because the majority of games I would play are on my PC. At any rate, great video!
I play exclusively PCVR games and I also only use wireless. I've used wire before but I will never go back to it. Wireless works just as well in my experience.
@@reyluna0 Admittedly, the battery life is pretty pathetic. 2 hours and 30 minutes is the high end. It tends to last for a lot less than that. Battery banks are an options, but I haven't explored that yet.
Hi Is it worth upgrading for me? I thought I ask your opinion guys. I am on the Oculus rift S (it coming to 3 years now I think) my pc spec: Ryzen 5 3600, 16GB DDr4 3200Mhz, nvme and ssd drives, Rtx 3080TI. Games are supersampled around x1.5 with with oculus tray tool and run at only 80hz(80fps). Games I play are -- ALL OF THEM :DD (driving sims, space expolartion sims, FPS shooters etc.) Now what I want to improve on is the clarity/ image quality. With the PICO 4 90hz(90fps) so more frames to push and higher resolution. My PC should be powerful enough (I guess.) Unfortunately there is something else.....so I tested the quest 2 on my pc with the link cable and I did not like the compression artifacts at all.. (yes I know I am fussy) Would love to ask anyone who could compare the PICO 4 with virtual desktop against another VR headset that does not do compression and is it really the same?? Any help is welcome.... thank you Of course awesome video as always Tyriel... thank you for shearing your honest thoughts with us :D
Nice review. Since you started your vid with the remark, that no social media account is needed, could you be so kind to inform us about the data security part of the headset? Another review, that I read stated, that you have to agree to the terms of usage, including that pico is allowed to share all of our vr data with its partners. Keeping in mind that bytedance has very close bonds with the Chinese CP, I would really appreciate, if you could confirm or deny it. Thanks in advance!
No NDA or anything like that, I simply don't know to be honest, the moment I became a content creator I accepted that my data will be in the hands of every single company, Facebook, Microsoft, Google, bytedance etc. I should read through it, but you don't need a social account to use this headset, that means that for them you are just data, they don't have to know your name, date of birth, or ever real country if you don't want to. You can create an account with all different data, something that with oculus you couldn't do for example. That's the reason of my comment in the video! I hope it explains it
How does this passthrough on the Pico 4 compare to the Quest 3 mixed reality? My use case is Microsoft Flight Simulator using a knee board and a keyboard. Thanks
great review! but i will wait for next year to upgrade, if the strongest suite of the Pico is comfort then i am already very comfortable with my Q2. The rest just doesn't look good enough to justify a new headset....especially knowing that i will be getting the Q3 next year.
Pico4 is good, but noticed also other things and some cons, and that will come later in my own review. Overall Q2 is still more safer choice because software and hardware are well optimized together. In VD it's already almost perfect with Q2. Pico4 is not at best today - because software is not great and tracking need some work. But for price, it's hard to ignore it. Can forgiven for that. But i noticed you say you can even remove headstrap? But not in normal way - so i cannot say it is valid. If you need tools to remove it, then you may not say it's possible to remove it compared to Q2. You will have risk to damage it. DIY is okay, but there will no 3rd party solutions based on it without breaking the headset. Most solutions are based on what is already possible to change without risk.
Hello Tyriel! Great video as always. But i was wondering if you’ve considered using a USB C to headphone jack with charging passthrough? There’s quite a few of them out there for Android phones, would they work with this headset?
Thats because some software will work on the PC - not all will. So yes you lose access to your Quest games because they are mobile only. Meta is a close platform. VD just allows you to have access because he's cool and was able to map some things between all headsets. You don't have that as a native store user.
Well in my personal experience if you get the Chinese version of the pico 4 you have to actually change the region of the head set on side quest to finally sign in otherwise it won't recognise your account
What is this game you are playing at 13:32? Also, I just ordered a pico 4 to import to the US from amazon UK. I really appreciate this extremely thorough review.
Great review! I really like this channel, the reviews are in-dept and consider all the things I would like to know. On that note, can the Pico 4 controllers be used with the Quest 2 and visa versa? Also can both devices (or any combination of pcvr) be used on the same pc at the same time for multiplayer experiences? Thanks in advance, keep up the good work.
I have had two, both went back with awful mura. Many reports of the same on Discord etc. I may try one more when they are back in stock, but bad QC from Pico for sure :(
@@arthathome it's inconsistent colour/brightness from pixel to pixel. Hard to describe, looks a bit like a dirty display. One of my Pico 3's had it as bad too, second doesn't though.
Great video, thank you! I'm wondering - I saw the quick few frames of accepting the Pico analytics. Do you know of anyone who has done a deep dive into the data collected and transmitted to ByteDance? I mean, Meta has its own track record of concerns, but TikTok and ByteDance keep showing up in the discussion with their own privacy concerns and who is accessing user data. With the colour passthrough, and other sensors, tracking, etc. - has anyone audited or done a breakdown of what actually gets collected and sent? Just curious - thanks again, big fan!
The wireless pc streaming works better for me than virtual desktop, I would say almost flawless. The only hiccups occur when a game or the steam VR environment is loading.

the big deal breaker for me at this point is, can you download and install games you've purchased on the Quest 2 on the Pico 4, or do you have to buy and install them all over again? Normally you forget about SDE over time as you are playing the game. I assume if it was really bad he would've told us. If its more noticable its only because there is more pix pitch between the pixels and the new flat lenses will allow that to be seen a bit more clearly than before. Seems like its a common thing with the new flat lenses as they are a bit too clear.

If only Pico 4 had a native DisplayPort via USB-C option. That, and OLED w/HDR, eye tracking, and maybe headset haptics like the PSVR2. Here's hoping Pico 5 has those features.
which is why I'll just wait for valve next vr
Yea let's have allllll those features for $400 smh. For what this is, price wise....its the best!
Yeah Pico 4 is a great value for what you get. To get something visually better you will spend 2 to 4 times the price. The PSVR2 could change that.
Not possible (at least for most of the games, idk about the pure OpenXR ones)
Aren't there VR games you can download straight on to your computer
Unless if the dev approves / ports the games themselves im not sure about that bc that could cripple the income the dev gets if they do try to port it when someone else did Cntrl c Cntrl v basically
I went from oculus quest 2 to Pico 4 and I will not switch back... That's for sure. Love this VR headset. I don't mind so much about the lack of some games. It is what it is but it still getting better in the store. Playing pcvr with these will make you get hold of some more games that are not in the store

I had a charging issue with my Quest 2, a factory reset did nothing so I returned it. It's been three weeks so I got a pico 4 to play Steam and the Rift games I have via virtual desktop. Its great for that but I am still looking forward to getting my quest back as I have applab games.
Prob a bad battery but why did u think a factory reset would fix a charging issue? I’m confused
Or something is in the port or the port is broken
I really want the pico 4 "Oled edition" with displayport cable.
Would be the best headset tbh
Would love to see a pico 3 link and pico 4 comparison, I am also very curious if the pico 4 controllers work on the pico 3 link.
Credible (not sponsored) and honest review, Pico 4 will be my mext headset.
I also noticed this, very annoying. At first I thought it was light bleeding in from the sides and the nose hitting the lenses, but no.
I got it today and i like it a lot. Only thing is the face cushen that is too stiff but i hope Pico will add an softer one. I think the software and games are gonna be updated real soon.
I find that after using it for over a week the cusion becomes much softer, I am however buying a VR cover on day one when it comes out
Awesome review! Have to wait three more weeks till I get mine, but I'm really looking forward to it!
For only simracing use, which one is your recommendation? Hp g2 or the Pico?
Do you have a pc?
Dumb question, you obviously have one, for just simracing I recommend hp
I've had my Pico 4 since the 18th it's a nice upgrade over the Q2. it's not a mind blowing experience but it's definitely a better headset hardware wise which is what I was looking for. I look forward to the Pico 5

That's my question also.
There is a little glitch at 6:35
Can't wait to receive mine soon coming from Quest 1, and I hope it'll feel next gen compared with that
Iam coming from Quest 2 and I hope will like it, I really dislike the frontheavy Q2 and Iam looking forward to more comfortable, better looking PCVR
Quest 1 has perfect OLED blacks and better brightness, contrast and colours. I kind of miss it even though it had it's problems.
Hey Ty! Would you consider Pico 4 a good headset for movies/multimedia?
I use mine for movies sometimes. I would say it's definitely a good one for it. The lenses look good and it's a comfortable headset to wear for long movies aswell.
Sure! It's comfy and it has a good screen, win win
I am looking VR for PC and will use it mostly for work with multiple screens. If I decide to buy 4k monitor it will cost same amount as Pico4 so I believe worth to try it. Thanks for the review!
Lightleak? Push some foam between facecover and headstrap. Or pull a hoodie over head and set, improves sound too... :)
Bro u should have waited for the quest 3
Even tho meta has not said much about it at meta connect it’s coming out sometime next year
@@somerandomperson4143 Quest 3 hasn't even been announced... So you will be waiting for a pretty long period of time.

Hi
Is it worth upgrading for me? (yes I know I am fussy)
Would love to ask anyone who could compare the PICO 4 with virtual desktop against another VR headset that does not do compression and is it really the same??
Any help is welcome.... thank you
Of course awesome video as always Tyriel... thank you for shearing your honest thoughts with us :D
@Tyriel: Is this a subject to some kind of NDA? Just wondering….
I hope it explains it
Thx, appreciate your efforts! Keep on the good work :)
How does this passthrough on the Pico 4 compare to the Quest 3 mixed reality? My use case is Microsoft Flight Simulator using a knee board and a keyboard. Thanks
Will this work with visionkey and magic key piano tutorial app?
Or is the quest the only headset for that?
I have big hands and would have issues with Pico 4's controllers, no audio jack, can't change head strap...I'll wait for Quest3.
great review! but i will wait for next year to upgrade, if the strongest suite of the Pico is comfort then i am already very comfortable with my Q2. The rest just doesn't look good enough to justify a new headset....especially knowing that i will be getting the Q3 next year.
Yeh can agree especially when the quest 2 is going to be not just smaller and comfortable it will be more powerful
Yes. Everyone is using them. Works fine.
Can you tell me please how I can connect my PS5 and also Xbox Series X to this headset to play my existing games? Thanks
You don't lose all your Quest games. If they work on Oculus PC app, you can still play them with Virtual Desktop.
Thats because some software will work on the PC - not all will. So yes you lose access to your Quest games because they are mobile only. Meta is a close platform. VD just allows you to have access because he's cool and was able to map some things between all headsets. You don't have that as a native store user.

I'm really drawn to the Pancake lenses of the Pico 4, but I'd hate to have to buy all my games again, since both the Quest and Pico share the same (or very similar) UI.
No
it’s kinda obvious that’s a no
It’s 2 different companies 2 different accounts
I was hoping it would be like with Android phones, since at it's core the UI is built on Android. Just because the hardware has Meta and Pico stamped on the box doesn't rule the idea out.
@@MrFreesearcher it doesn’t but the idea of u having to have a mega account and a pico account most likely that’s a pretty big factor that I’m talking about
Very entertaining review!
Steam displays the image from the goggles on the computer monitor and this image is 100x better than what I see in the goggles, how to fix it?
Interesting that you are showing pcvr gameplay for a headset that is marketed to be a standalone (and pcvr, i know) quest beater, but it's just strange that so much pcvr gameplay was used, nice review though, how is the battery after 1 month?
I use it ONLY for PCVR, who cares about marketing these days, lol. Marketing overall is a bunch of BS anyway.
PCVR is what will push the VR scene forwards. It's all that matters.
@@Skrenja yeah but the headset is promoted as standalone so it would just make sense to show standalone gameplay, but I agree that pcvr is what’s gonna evolve vr
Hi. Do you know if this can access Kodi to view any content please?
How much money have you spent on VR head sets
LOL, so is SDE more noticeable than on the Q2? The context of what you said suggests you see more SDE than the Q2. That would be bad.
yea SDE should be absolutely a thing of the past in 2022... thats ridiculous.
screen door was already kinda gone with the G2 and stuff. this isnt 2017~2019 anymore.
@@heyjeySigma I could have swore he posted that the P4 looked way better than the Q2 and less SDE. Hopefully a language context issue. Else no point getting the P4, IMO.
@@heyjeySigma Do you understand how SDE even comes to be? I wouldnt call it a "solved" thing if you did
Normally you forget about SDE over time as you are playing the game. I assume if it was really bad he would've told us. If its more noticable its only because there is more pix pitch between the pixels and the new flat lenses will allow that to be seen a bit more clearly than before. Seems like its a common thing with the new flat lenses as they are a bit too clear. To say its solved is a bit miss leading... we need something like 8k per eye at 100 degrees before it goes away - but that wont be a thing for a while.
@@marpex-market The review here seems to contradict that, depending on context ;)
