Welcome to Part 3 of my "Spirit of Flight" DAC vs. DPD series. In this series, I'll be working on this piece from both companies, at the same time, and sharing progress and comparison videos as we go along.
Diamond Art Club and Diamond Painting Deutschland have very different approaches to rendering and colors, and the kits themselves look very different from one another, too. Both are licensed from artist Josephine Wall and both companies have really fabulous qualities. My goal with this series is not to pit these companies against one another, but to highlight what their strengths are and what you can expect if you were to order one of their kits.

I think DPD will really come into it's own the closer you get to completion. I wasn't familiar with J. Wall's work before I started diamond painting. And I'm terrible at discussing art! But I think her work really needs to be experienced as a whole. That's why it's hard to see birds or whatever in the DPD version...they are to be viewed as a part of the whole. But that's only my opinion. Great series. Loving it!
When you get to the faces I think that’s when the images will really come together and we’ll see which one we prefer for sure!
Catching up on videos 😅 I agree, if the DPD would just have a bit more definition and a few less colors it would be perfect. The rendering of DAC suits certain styles of artwork like Mandie Manzano and Mika Jelena. But they miss the mark on softer artwork that doesn’t have hard lines. I agree that the contrast is to stark.
Good thinking on hopping over, I remember your comments on the merry go round one once you passed the ‘action’.
Essentially, I want a median canvas that has the crispiness of DAC in DPD colors. 🧐
with the new order you work in, we now have more time to look forward to the face. Lisette crafts and tells call the highlights "bon bons", and saves them to the end. I love that.

The color choices are what are getting me. I definitely like the more Springtime palette of DPD, but to me they both missed the mark a little from a color perspective when the original artwork is in the middle. On the original one there are beautiful oranges that fade to peaches at the bottom and then at the top behind/above the swans are some lovely shades of light purple and lilac. The full rainbow of colors is my favorite part of the piece so both canvases not quite nailing the color palette in my opinion is a bit of a bummer. That isn’t to say that they aren’t both lovely in their own right. They are. They are just different than the original. I agree that if someone at DPD went back over and did some hand corrections here and there for color and for line clarity we’d probably get the closest result to matching the original. This really is a fantastic project and a great way to compare two very different yet equally valid rendering styles. Thank you for doing this and taking us along the journey with you!
I was thinking the same thing about there being a balance right in the middle! I also agree with you that if someone went in and hand charted a few of the colors it would be perfect from DPD. I feel like the bird could be a bit more crisp on the DPD one and the DAC one seems almost too crisp on the wings

I really like the definitions on the Dac, but I also like the style of the Deutschland. The original painting that you showed though is actually the best. The other person's comment about putting the two together and taking the best of both is actually the best suggestion I've seen. I really appreciate you doing this because the artwork is not always what we think it's going to be. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Loving the DPD version in terms of keeping to the original artwork. DAC is very colourful but for me it's too cartoonish. Knowing Josephine's artworks well I think the DAC version detracts from her overall style. I'm loving watching these updates. Thanks for doing something 99.99% of us wouldn't do ❤
They are both so beautiful in their individual ways. I would still lean on the DPD for sure. Love the comparison! Have great week!

I’m still liking the DPD more so far! I feel like the rendering style really depends on the artist original like for jo wall it needs less defined lines but with more cartoony line work it would lend well to that!
DAC gets my vote, such crisp design.
While I am bummed we have to wait to see her beautiful face, I sooooo understand why you are changing tactics so you avoid burn out. That is great motivation to get to the end!
I also concur with the majority here in that it would be nice if we could do a kit mash-up. The idea of DD having a person to go in with an editing eye (hand?) to clean up the computer rendering would be amazing. I volunteer as tribute ;-) Kidding, but what an interesting job that would be! This project is so fun and enjoyable to watch. I agree that I wish there was a middle ground version because DACs is just a little too sharp but DPD is too mixed, soft. When you are done, is there a way to show each at a 6ft distance and see if that helps with the overall effect?

So amazing to see these come to life. They are so different the two renderings. I am drawn to the softness the etherealness of the German one. I don’t like the idea of 275 colors, and I don’t like the price to ship to the US. But I think I’m going to go that route to do Scorpio. DAC is nice, but just too harsh for what I love in Josephine Wall’s artwork. Thank you for doing this. It is fascinating to watch!

To be honest....holding my phone way out, if I didn't know there were several birds on the DPD canvas I don't think I can make them out. DAC definitely is crisper but misses on the color selection. Really loving your work on this and appreciate your will to do it!! You do it your way! Look forward to the next installment!!

I am LOVING the side by side and original artwork comparison! I have officially fallen in love with DPD version, it’s more true to the original artwork. I am soo tempted, for you, to get the uniquely yours version as well 😅
Very interesting video, thanks so much for taking on both projects, it's really fun to watch the comparisons! I personally am torn too. I looove the crispness of DAC but the colours in DPD are amaaazing. Can't wait to see them progressing 😁👍
I definitely see the pros and cons of both companies in comparison. DAC is very vibrant the other a little blurry in areas that I would like more definition. Both are beautiful and you cant go wrong with either of them. Its what you are drawn to personally. In this case, even though the other company (sorry I forgot its name, no disrespect intended) is closer to the original, I am preferring the DAC rendering because I really like the definition and strong colors in it. I have to admit that DAC is my top favorite in diamond paintings but again, both are beautiful. I really enjoyed this comparison and look forward to the face portion. Great idea! I've not seen this before.
The difference is mind blowing! It would be interesting to see what a Uniquely Yours version would look like since they carry so many of her pieces.

Wow!! What a difference...it's like the watercolor painting from Josephine Wall was recreated as an oil painting on the DAC version. I love color and contrast so much that I'm drawn to the DAC rendering!! Obviously the DPD is closer to the original artwork.
I'm still thinking the same thing as last week...dang it, I wish there was one right in-between the two styles! I like that you are saving your "bon-bon" (credit to Lisette) for last. Your ability to enjoy the process as you complete these two masterpieces is paramount, I think. Your excitement for the project is what attracts so many people.
Yes!! I completely blanked on mentioning Lisette but I absolutely had her in mind - I love her, and her "diamond painting bonbon" idea is one of my favorites to see her do!
You absolutely have a great reason for going to the other end and working back to the middle... Can't blame you at all! Loving watching your progress on this huge undertaking! I bought this canvas from Uniquely Yours, only I got the poured glue version (same size roughly) and I am so unhappy with it! It only has something like 49 colors!! I wish they would have told me about the huge number of colors missing in the poured glue version... Guess I'll trash it, Idk... Thanks for the update!!🤗💕💕

I love them both, but I feel like the DPD version is a diamond painting of Josephine Wall's work while the DAC is someone's interpretation of her work. The number of colors in the DPD could have been turned down a bit.
I love them both for different reasons..the DPD is like the original art of J.WALL and the DAC is like you say..crisp and beautiful. Love original look" whispy ethereal " dream look..but will never be able to work on something like that..wayyyyy to much confetti..i did a DAC of SAGITTARIUS took me 3 days shy of a month, loved working on it, but was sooo ready to start a new dp and get away from " the blue life" but love them both!!!
I totally agree! They are both beautiful, but if you could merge the two it would be a perfect diamond painting. There are things about each one that I like better. I love that other people are doing the third option so we can see what all three look like. This video was great, thanks so much for sharing!

Love them both, so different. I really like that DAC have picked out more of the rosy colour at the bottoms, but love the watercolour effect of DPD. A blend of both would be amazing

I agree a.middle would be ideal!! I feel that the canvas fabric, and different glue applications have a role to play. How is that for you going from the different types?? Noone seems to be able or want to print a large max colors size canvas on poured glue. If we can get that I would very much LOVE to do that and see how it turns out!!??💞💎💎💎 Great job!!
I can’t wait to see the next installment! They are both beautiful but so definitely think DPD is closer to the original artwork. I agree that I wish DPD would go back through to tweak the rendering, I feel like that would fix all how blurry it is. Thank you for doing this, I love to watch the videos!
Thank you for taking on this project. It is really great. I like the DAC one better. I like that is crisper looking. I think the DPD looks closer to the original but I think it looks washed out. I agree that a combo of both of them would be great. I found your channel when you were doing the other DPD and have been watching all the rest of the videos. Thanks for the great work.
That DPD looks very nice. On the birds, I like how they actually look closest to the original. The coloring is off at the bottom of the DPD, which is a real bummer. I have the DAC version about 65% done. It is extremely "crisp" compared to the DPD softness.
Crisp is a very good choice of words when trying to describe the DAC finish compared to others. I love that description, it's great. Thanks for that. ;)

I wonder what Josephine Wall herself thinks! I love both to look at, but I would choose make the DAC one, just because of the unwieldy number of colours in the DPD
I find it difficult to determine the "winner". Both have something. But I like DPD a little better because, in my opinion, it is closer to the original. Thanks for this interesting comparison. I hope you stay tuned!
They are both beautiful! I do agree though that it would be great if DAC was less crisp and that they didn’t change some of the colors. And that the DPD had more definition.
This is so interesting! I feel like the DPD rendering is a little more true to the painting but I like DAC’s rendering style better. I tend to gravitate towards crisp and less abstract diamond paintings, so this is just my preference knowing what I enjoy working on. Looking forward to more updates!
YES it helps so much having the original in between, it shows how accurate the DPD-version actually is. Having someone go over the DPD rendering and correcting/enhancing just a few details would make it perfect imho.
Now having started my own JWall kit from DPD, I fully understand the mental load of that project and wanting to save the most exciting section for last. Also makes us want to watch the whole series even more, since we're all wanting to see the differences in the finished faces :D
The are both beautiful, I prefer the crispness & vibrant colors of DAC. That’s a good idea to jump to the other side & work your way toward the middle & save her for the end 🥰
Wall's art has always been dream like. That's why all the images work. So, DAD works better for me. Literally she is the personification of Flight. " The Spirit of Flight" . Like Venus is to romance/love. Niki is to victory. Etc... Take care and have fun!!!🌈🤯🌈

At first I was drawn to the crispness of DAC but then I appreciated the mute colours of the other.
They both missed the mark, but the beauty of diamond art is that it IS different than the original in most cases. DPD did a better job looking more like the original, but has about 100 colors more than it needs. DAC doesn't have enough. They both missed the actual color scheme in some places. Whatever DAC did at the top right is actually awful in color. I would be very curious to see the Uniquely Down Under version. You are really amazing for taking on these projects and I thank you very much for sharing that journey with us!!
I looooooobe This project ❤️ It’s so fun u mention the color! I was thinking last week, wonder if haed had a 100 color one. I think that would be best tbh... I did 2 Josefine wall, from germany and I have to say I was disappointed in how it turn out. U use soooo much time and it just go blury. But also I love them due to the struggle lol! U do an AWESOME job! Love it so much!
Looks good and is coming along very nicely. I have no issues with you hopping over to the other side. You have to do what is best for you and eventually both canvases will be completed in due time and they will be lovely :D
I’m loving both! Def agree that the German company resembles closest to the original artwork. I think this is something that would be awesome to do and at the end gift the one that may not speak to you as much.
I like the detail of the hair in the DAC but I am leaning towards DPD more watercolor version both awesome though.
I started on the right bottom and moved around to top right, now on the left top. I am saving the pretty colors of the bottom left to the last. Her face was fun to complete.
I do agree that DPD is closer to orginial Artwork but does look bit muddy less defined than the DAC version. The DAC Canvas colours I do prefer, though as I think makes the artwork pop more.

I do think that computer charting with someone fine tining the result, is the best outcome. With the DPD version, it looks like it is missing some of the peachy color down on the bottom of the canvas. I agree about her hair as well. I've been wondering does it need that many colors. It needs the computer charting, but does it need that many colors. The DAC, to me, does not even look like her artwork. It has the same subjects, but does not look like her orginal artwork at all.
Oh I've ordered the Uniquely Yours Down Under version but I didn't know it has 100 colours...I feel a bit faint😳😳...but I'm even more excited now...amazing work ty for another great upload ❤
You know, I should have probably specified, but Uniquely Yours actually offers this kit in a variety of different sizes and numbers of colors. You could probably go back and look at your order and see, and if there isn't a note in what you ordered about it having either 100+ or 200+ colors, I think you'll have around 60. You could also email them and ask! Or just be surprised when it shows up 🤣

I definitely like DAC more defined edges in their paintings. I’m gonna have to look up what rendering means. I’m beginning to think excitement is what motivates us to accomplish the things.
I do have the Uniquely Yours Down Under version of this painting, just ordered 2 weeks before DAC released their version. Now still hesitating whether to buy the DAC version 😅
I get why you're doing it, but the face is what I care about. I'll tune back in when you get there.
Hey I don't know if you do each column in the same order top down or bottom up, but maybe to give you a little change start one DP at the bottom of the column and the other DP at the top of that same column section. Perhaps that would just give you a change. As for which I like better, I think the background of DPD but the birds/detail of DAC would be a good mix.
I think that the true beauty of each of the diamond paintings will shine through when both are completed.
I don't know how to describe it exactly, but the DAC is more loud than the original. DPD feels more peaceful and calm, without the huge contrast between colors.
Agree with you about an integration of the two would be lovely. Wonder if Uniquely Yours is that to. Also did you pick out the face within her hair in each? Quite different that. I wonder what Josephine Wall was incorporating and the meaning.
Dac colours are nice and bright the Germany one the colours are quite dull I think I would buy the dac one
It’s interesting, because I definitely think that the DPD one is closer to the original in terms of style. And they are definitely both beautiful in my opinion. But for whatever reason there’s s something about the DAC version that I am drawn to.
At the moment I like the bright colours better.
If I am honest I prefer the DAC one
On camera - I prefer the DAC image, even though I think the colors and watercolor effect match the original artwork better on the Deutschland one. I just prefer the clearer looking image. The DPD one just looks pixelated to me.

I think I like the Germany one better, the colors are much prettier, and so much closer to the original artwork. I think the rendering and colors are too harsh on the DAC one. I love DAC, but for this particular artwork the other company wins in my opinion. I can't wait to see the end result to see if my opinion changes.
I think the closest to the original. It would be best to take the colors from DPD but the details from DAC.
I'm not the biggest fan of DAC's hand charting to be honest...I feel like they sometimes take too much artistic liscense with the original artwork with their hand charting and with some images (like this one) its REALLY noticeable. I've not bought artwork from DAC that I've liked because of the renderings.
Interesting comment, now I'm intrigued :). Sometimes I feel like doing a DAC is cheating like diamond paintings for "dummies" (like the book series). It often doesn't give you the same challenges because you know that the finished product will be close to perfect compared to others on the market. What companies do you patronize and why?
@@karinswartz3046 my issue is that I want the finished product to look like the original artwork...not someone else's INTERPRETATION of that artwork. I buy from a lot of different places. Distracted by Diamonds is my preferred company. I've also bought from Diymoonshop, Mary’s Diamonds, Treasure Studios Art and recently Royal Diamond Painting.

I prefer the crisp rendering of the DAC version but I really like the colors of the German version. I don't understand why DAC changed the colors of the sky, eliminating the purple and aqua.

ugh this makes me decision so much harder because I want to buy josephine’s Virgo and Aquarius etc but now from where….. 😭
I liked the Diamond Art Club best until you showed the original artwork. I would still probably get DAC's because it would be easier for me to get, less expensive and overwhelming and it's poured glue. An option in the middle would be good.
There is a Josephine Wall that I want that only Diamond Painting Deutschland makes. Do they only do square drills?
Some kits they only offer in square, others they offer in both round or square. They'll be separate listings if they do. I hope that helps!
There is more blending with the DPD canvas.
What companies besides DAC hand render? Now I understand why DAC always looks so different than any that I have seen.
There are a few that I can think of - Craftibly is doing more hand-rendering on their newer kits, Distracted by Diamonds does, and I believe that DIYMoon Shop does hand-rendered touchups if not fully hand-rendered. Sparkle Queen Creations does, as well.
To be fair, for some of these, they may start with computer charting as a baseline and then go back in to hand-render and tweak. But to be completely honest, I can't speak to any of these for sure, with the exception of Sparkle Queen Creations who I've seen share about her process on IG before. I hope that helps!

I think I’m in the minority, but I really like the DAC rendering better. I don’t really like the muddiness of the DPD rendering, although I realize it’s closer to the original artwork. However, I still like the blue sky better on the DPD version!
Honestly, I think it's been really evenly split between the two! It's fascinating, actually!
