Besides using PVC instead of wood for your white trim and sill, you may consider cutting a groove about an inch or so back from the underside of the outer edge of the sill to be a drip stop / edge. But it's hard to do once installed.
Thanks for the tip! I didn't show it very well but I did cut a groove in the sill just before it meets the siding. You can partially see it around 16:30. I think I could have cut it closer to the front edge to be more effective as a drip stop. Thanks for watching

Bc paying ppl means You can Never know how lazy these "Professionals", really are. 🔦 So making me so much more appreciative that you guys are taking the time to Teach us How do Do it ourselves. And in my case Giving me the courage to try. ALOT less annoying when something fails bc of a mistake You made verses spend tons of money and then having to pay to fix That work. 😡 Lol so thanks for this video

Interesting that you were willing to leave the rotted parts of the window side frames. Given the new sill is thicker than the original, how is it that the window closes properly?
I fixed ours last year and got lucky to be able to used just wood hardener and it seems like it worked. Don’t know how long it will last though. Fingers crossed
lol you have my luck with that storm window, make one thing great and then something else comes up. I would said just shim it in like 3 spots on left side of the trim and put that installed behind the trim and tin snip the bottom off if it doesnt fit once trim removed. Nature fixed it though
I have the same storm window setup. When I replaced my windowsill I debated putting the storms back on just like you did. I decided to reinstall the storms and now I'm having doubts because I actually think they trap moisture and are responsible for accelerating wood decay. They also do little to stop bugs (spraying is the only thing that seems to stop that problem) and I don't think they're doing anything to insulate the house. I have 3 or 4 more windows to do and I'm thinking about ripping all the storms out. I'm curious, how's your window working out without the storm in place?
Honestly I haven't noticed much of a difference between this one and others that have the storm in terms of warmth this winter. We also really like the look of the exterior without the storm window. We will probably make a screen panel for this summer and are considering making our own storm window but not sure yet
If your sill is rotted out, you most likely have mold in the wall cavity. Id replace the window with a double pain insulated window. If you have vinyl siding, they make a new construction window with j channel built into them.

The replacement sill is not much thicker and the locking hardware still lines up to pull the two sashes together

What’s the name of the tool you are using to put the trim , I mean the nails
I used a reciprocating saw to cut out the old sill, and an oscillating multitool to cut the window casing to fit the new sill
