HELP ME - My OG Xbox plays discs but how do I fix this Hitachi-LG drive?

I've replaced the belt and it still doesn't open and makes a terrible noise. But it DOES play games after I used a small screw driver to push on the blue disc tray release lever. Does the tray have to be connected to something other than the track itself?
