  • The FAIRTRADE, SUSTAINABLE commercial harvesting of Omumbiri was developed by IRDNC an NGO after extensive research and sustainability studies of the Kunene region Namibia.
    The legislations created by the Namibian Governmet in 1998 is some of most progressive in the world protecting the land and the communities that were born and live there and the profits derived from their use.
    The Himba are a Matriarchal society and income from the harvesting of Omumbiri has helped strengthen women's role in a shifting society affected by Western norms.
    For centuries the Himba women in Namibia have harvested Omumbiri as a perfume. The resin which exudes naturally from the bark of the plant is used to perfume the ochre and butterfat mixture used on their skin and hair. This fresh and uplifting fragrance is used as a perfume in Terres d'Afrique organic skincare.
