    I've checked out all the timing belt/water pump videos on UA-cam and this is by far the best. The water pump had gone on my 06 1.9 150 Vectra and I was thinking about scrapping it, but I bought the Gates kit and in the few days after Christmas, on the driveway between the torrential rain, I completed the job. Have never done a timing belt before but your video made the job simple. You explained everything well, showed things in detail and took your time. Many thanks for saving my car (I've had it from new)

    Excellent tutorial, watched it several times, along with others but this is by far the best, did mine today, took 6 hours, had a bitch of a job getting the belt back on, just didn't seam to be enough slack, took almost an hour of trying but got it in the end, and the belt tensioner was a pig too, definitely a 2 man job, ( had to rope wifey in) i couldn't see it enough from above to get the pin to lever against.

    Very helpful. did mine yesterday. watched this twice and made 2 pages of A4 notes before heading to the drive with tools and timing belt kit. Funnily enough, I made the same mistake by not realising there were two different Aux belt options and have the longer 1900mm one now going on ebay ! This was so good guidance - all the bolt head sizes perfect and the tensioner explanation saved so much head scratching. Thanks for uploading this.

    As already stated this is one of the best videos on this. Although I would just like to add that the camshaft on the Mk1 models (the A20DTH engine) will 'flip' a few degrees out of position when the old belt is removed, but this is not a disaster - & although special locating tools are advised the camshaft can be held back into position using a 20mm socket & T bar. The cam belt tensioner did take a few attempts to 'set' to the correct position - mainly due to the limited access. Lastly the upper and lower idlers mentioned in the video: the upper one is for the cam belt (50NM) the lower one is on the outside for the auxiliary drive/alternator belt (20NM). Not a bad job to do - & taking my time it took around 7 hours.

      The camshaft moved out of position compared to my markings. When moving the camshaft to line up it keeps springing out of position. How do i solve this problem?

    • @tamahaac
      @tamahaac Рік тому +2

      @@matthewlloyd7332 Hi Matthew. I did cover this - but just to add, if the camshaft drive needs holding in position, I found holding it 'in line' with a 20mm socket on the T bar did the trick. Although this can be awkward on your own so another pair of hands would definitely help while fitting the cambelt. The crankshaft & fuel pump drive should not move or be an issue. When the cambelt is fitted rotate the crank at least twice to ensure everything is still in line with your original markings - & for the tensioner to settle. Anyway I hope this clears things up - & good luck.

    Fantastic video. Great help! Thanks a lot for taking the time to put this together.
    Having had a go at my Astra J 2.0CDTI, I found I had not noticed the typical pulley/sprocket bolts. I thought they were Allen but NO, its a RIBE version. If I only paid attention. So had to put everything back together...🤨
    Managed to find the RIBE bits, but am wondering what size the bolts are. Maybe good to know for the next DIY mechanic...

    • @marcel4999
      @marcel4999 2 роки тому +1

      8 mm I just found out.
      There is also an interesting part on the the engine mount which attaches to the engine. The top left bolt goes through a hollow shaft which can extend. It seems it is meant for some sort of adjustment, altough I am not sure. I put the mount back to the engine putting all the other bolts back in, leaving the top left for last. Subsequently I extended the shaft in the top left bolt position out (turning right) till it touches the engine. After that I put the bolt back in.
      But the timing belt is on, the waterpump in and the aux belt done. Thanks again!

    As a heads up the crankshaft marks mean nowt in the a20dth engine you need the cam locking took and the crankshaft alignment tool. As an example my current job on the insignia the cam shat marks are 90 degrees and locked into tdc while the crankshaft is 270 degrees I often think the marks on the insignia are there to mess us up

  • @TheRCBiker

    Thank you for this video, succesfully changed my belt this morning. Just one thing - after lining it up and marking the timing, I removed the belt. Upon removing the belt the cam pully spun round, so it was almost as though the location of the markings put it right at the top (or bottom?) of its stroke, meaning that it was quite tricky to hold it where it needed to be to keep the timing whilst installing the new belt. Aside from using a locking tool/kit, is there anything I could've done differently to stop this from happening?

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  2 роки тому +1

      Not really it must just be the spot that you marked it on, I know exactly what you mean , it can make it abit awkward when fitting the belt and trying to hold the cam at the same time!ha
