It seems to have a big presence for a plane of that size. It only looks it’s true size when you’re holding it or standing next to it. I always enjoy your build/flight review videos!
Great review brother! I really like these smaller 64mm EDF jets, I think they are just right for those on a budget, and look super good for their size. PLUS, these fans are starting to sound very good and the power seems super good for what it is! No need for retracts on these; they are kinda too small to effectively engineer the retracts anyway, and it would only add weight. Not to mention the cost increase. Then folks would say "gee, for what I'm paying, it should be a larger model", and then you're on an ever spiraling cycle of diminishing returns. Thanks for showing us this one, what a nice little ship!
Thanks brother! Personally, I'd like to see retracts at this size. Back in the day, this was a 70mm sized model and I had retracts in them at this size back then. Just sayin' ;)

Thanks for that Fair Rc Link Chris. i got notice the Fms had them back in stock and went to the website immediatly and found they were sold out on that jet already...But Fair Rc had 16 of them left to sell...Thanks Again Chris
Too much weight and cost for the cheap 64mm market. This jet barely has enough thrust to carry its weight. Carrying beefier landing gear and servos is only going to ruin it.
Just saying the technology should be there about now.. I love my big jet's but prefer to take out my 64mm even my small 50mm you can just throw them in the car no worries and cheap to replace just add rudders.. Retractable gear would change everything.
At 5:30 mark, she sounds extremely realistic! 🤡 Seriously though, this and the new F16 are likely the best 64mm jets I’ve ever seen. Well done, Chris. I just picked one up and will set up as you’ve described here. Thanks.
With the cost of the 70 and 80 MM I have been purchasing more 64 MM 4s planes. A lot less cost and just as fun and more forgiving to fly. I might have to pick this one up though I will yank the gyro. I have only purchased 2 planes so far in 2023 so a good candidate for #3. lol

Question I purchased the Beechcraft d18. I would like to weather the silver such as wings and fuselage. Do you know how to do that and color? And I would like to do chipping such as in the silver if it even happens on a silver plane. Thanks.
I’d recommend doing a “wash” with some raw umber acrylic, thinning it with windex. Apply it over the airframe and then wipe it off in the direction of the air flow using a paper towel with tamiya acrylic thinner. The wash will collect within the panel lines and darken them up. You can also apply in thinned acrylic to certain areas for a streaking effect as I show in my weathering videos. Paint chipping would make the most sense on the painted areas, not the silver. The full scale d18 is an immaculate polished aluminum airframe.
This one shows the wash technique. It’s a live stream from a while ago: Shop Time Live -- Weathering the E-flite A-10 Thunderbolt II ua-cam.com/video/YOXoOMWrNjM/v-deo.html
Another Question sorry. So when I use the umber do I use it on all the panel lines and do some streaking on some panel lines to make it look like it’s streaking off the panel line? I use to use black for the panel lines then airbrush away from said panel to look like it’s flowing and weathered. Thanks for your response
Hey Chris do you think this 64mm Rafale could benefit from reduced appature thrust nozzles like you did on the 80mm one? The outlets seem gigantic to me and especially when compared to my 64mm Eflite f-15 Eagle Jet?
@@Thercgeek In my view, I’d think that the added weight wouldn’t justify a mere extra 90 seconds in the air. I’d rather recharge at the field for another sortie.
Hi! Would this be good for a beginner as my first jet? It's a big step up for me as my airplane before was a small WL toys cessna 182... Should I fly it? Thanks!
I’m not familiar with that Cessna at all. If it’s what I think it is, you’ll probably want to step up to something a little higher performance before jumping into the rafale.
Only way to fly this is with an 1800mah 6s lipo, and the matching 2840 6s outrunner than spins at 2,280kv (think Arrows 64mm 6s platform). Stock ESC. You're welcome..

I do think it’s a good candidate for sure. My go to recommendation though is always the eflite 70mm viper. It’s really hard to beat and will give you experience with flaps and retracts too.
My first EDF was the E flight f15 64 mm. That's a great little jet, very forgiving and easy to fly with good performance. My second which I'm going to bring up is the free wing F9F Panther. That's also an amazing stable little jet that performs well and does great aerobatics. It also has a wide landing gear pattern. You decide to put them on, they make landings very easy and fun with a little bit of power! That makes it a great little trainer so you can move on to the larger EDF jets, which are harder to land. Peace from California!
It’s a 64mm. Its too small of a jet for retracts to even be considered as they barely qualify as sources of drag at that size, and it would just add weight. Not to mention that it will greatly increase the price of the jet, taking away its “best budget option” title and then you got the people on UA-cam going “gee! For what I’m paying I should be getting something bigger!”
Before plugging in the battery to the airplane, bring the throttle to full on the transmitter. From there, plug in the battery and wait for the esc to beep twice. When it does, bring the throttle back down to idle and it should beep twice again and then arm after that. That teaches the esc the full throttle range. It’s typical for the fms and freewing esc’s to have to do that.
FMS calling the nose gear CNC is misleading. Other models calling at CNC have actual machined aluminum you know oleo strut looking gear. These new deals from FMS are actually plastic molded over a internal hardware bit, but it's not a machined CNC aluminum deal like most people would typically think of it as. Kind of a downgrade FMS not the greatest.
Well, the 80mm rafale has machined aluminum landing gear struts. I don’t recall them ever making that claim for this 64mm one since it’s as you described, plastic covered wire. If it’s stated on the website, I’m guessing that’s a copy paste error.
@@Thercgeek well it's not a deal breaker exactly on that 64. Glad to hear the '80s all aluminum. They do call the nose gear on the 64 of CNC style landing gear which it's not. Just curious.
