The E-flite Viper 90 is the best EDF I've ever owned. I have hundreds of flights on mine and it's still fun to fly. If I can take only one airplane to the field, it's the Viper 90. If I can take 2, the E-flite 80mm F-16 goes along. The F-16 is more challenging to learn but once mastered, it can't be beat. I activate SAFE on all my Spektrum receivers. I rarely need it but knowing it's there makes me more confident doing aerobatics. Wish E-flite was more active in the EDF market and had a wider selection.
My favorite jet? DO I HAVE TO POCK JUST ONE??? Lol I love them all for different reasons. I’d sayyyyyyy…. The Freewing Avanti and the Eflite 90 Viper are my top at a tie, then the Freewing F-22. Then the Eflite 50mm Habu, this thing is sooo much fun in the wind!! Take the gear off and hand toss it. Literally no stall unless you are going vertical and cut the power lol
Haven’t had the pleasure of any of the top 5-2 but the viper 90 is one of my two best. The 80mm Futura is right there with it for me. Great flight handling, great gear…. Fast as all get out and is just as tough.
Mine , are my two AvantiS , one is the V1 the other V2, also have the grey Eflight 80 mm F-16, and SU30. I fell in love with the SU 30 paint scheme. Also have the Freewing F-22 8S version. That one really rips! I wanted the F-14, but I fly off grass and all the reports of the problems with the swing wing dampened my interest. I still loved your B-58 Hustler. I hope you rebuild it and do it again. That was so great seeing it fly.
Fun video Chris! Kind cool that the videos are from your previous and current residence. The Eflight F-16 is the most tempting for me, with one of your center burners of course. I think the Eflight 64mm A-10 could be a contender on your list as well. It has a sturdy airframe and solid flight characteristics in my opinion. Thanks for sharing. Very enjoyable!
I'm pretty sure it's the Durafly. An inexpensive model but super dependable and tough as a pine knot. Still flies and is probably goin on 10yrs old.@@Thercgeek
My favorite that was discontinued was the Eflight F-18. Fantastic sound and the scale gear are amazing! Still flying mine to this day! Glad I didn’t procrastinate on that one.
I am wondering if the lack of an affiliate link to the 80mm E-flite F-16 foretells it being dropped from HorizonHobby's inventory? So many great planes have been dropped by HH just when I wanted to buy one.
I have the link for the F-16 going to a search string for the 80mm since there are 2 versions available, the Tbird and the gray. I’ll be surprised if the 80mm f16 gets discontinued, but you never know, especially with HH. If it stops selling, then they’ll stop making.
Great video, thanks for sharing. My favourite the F16 , the sound and presence in the do It for me . Prefer the military look though. See you again soon Chris.
Nice review! I’m surprised that the Freewing Avanti didn’t make the list, it seems to be the all-around fair for it at the airfield. How do you compare the old Freewing tomcat you reviewed to the new smaller one that just came out? Also, to which switch do you assign the reverse thrust? I’ve placed mine on the left dial on the side or back of the transmitter, which is where the brake otherwise would go for me.
F16 and Avanti are currently in my hangar and are my 2 favorites. Both are very good at air show type aerobatics that I enjoy. I had some spare jet parts and looked for a jet body to add them to and found the Hawk. It was a good plane. The basic Habu makes a great first jet and trainer. The Marlin and Rebel 2 were some jets I learned to fly on and were a good value. I had a 70mm Viper and really liked it. The 90mm Viper would be nice but lies outside my comfort zone financially.
I'm glad you did not include the E-Flite F-18. Basically. After two and a half years battling with this jet .I can safely say that "It Doesn't Work" !! On the other hand .The Freewing F-18 is a wonderful easy and forgiving jet.
I have to agree. I'm still vying for the 90mm freewing F18 and have two FMS 70mm Hornets which are the best in their class. See you at the field. TVF VP Jerry
Great review. I would have put the 70mm F-16 at no.1 though. Either Eflite of Freewing. That jet pound for pound is just the best. Thrust to weight, wing loading, etc. The things it can do, it flies almost as if it has thrust vectoring. Also its stall characteristics are unmatched, it is so gentle in stall it is almost suitable for beginners. And it will hand launch stock with landing gear included!
Thanks! It’ll probably be next year as I haven’t received the new one from my friend yet and I have a couple other projects I’d like to get done before it.
I agree with your very honest list! However, I would add the Arrows Mig-29. I got three seasons and many great flights out of it. That was the first EDF I can say I wore out.
IVE BEEN dealing with my FMS Viper 70 Anniversary model. Landing gear was loose / sloppy poorly built from the start. Love the Jet. Crash it more often the flying it. It just sucks on the ground/ grass. Adding larger grub set screws tightened the gear up and now I think it's ready for endless fights. Hopefully the 90 will be next if all works out so I can have faith again.
I have the 1.3m Phoenix Medel BAE Hawk with a 90mm EDF. I also have an EDF BAE Hawk from 2006 with a newer EDF BL system installed. I haven't found one that flies as good as that one yet. I'm going to have to try the FMS version. It looks locked in and solid in the air.
Cool video - thanks. I have the 90mm Eflite Viper, and it flies like a dream and also so easy to fly and land. I love the Viper so much that I have a BH Viper for a 120mm EDF on the way next month. Already have the JP Hobby 120 mm and retracts with brakes waiting for the fuse to arrive.
That’s a good list Chris. I find myself always taking that BAE Hawk to the field. With an upgraded motor in mine that thing screams. I love my Freewing F-22 though, if only they would have made the landing gear more scale.
Great list! I love my 90mm Viper, and my 80mm F-16. Btw, the ViperJet IS a real airplane, so the model version is plenty scale :) My hands down favorite has to be the Freewing 90mm F-22.
I haven't Graded Skill level to Jets was thinking of getting a trainer Friendly Jet maybe the 50mm class ??? Any Surgestions are Welcome. Always enjoy your videos and tutorials.
The only ones that would potentially do that would be the eflite models if you get the bind and fly version. Both of them do have arf plus versions, but they don’t include the power system in those if I recall correctly.
@@ThercgeekI started out 11 years ago with scratch built multi rotors so got into Frsky gear. Nothing against Spektrum, just didn't want to change over as I also found the prices quite a bit higher for Spektrum gear. ANyway, when I get an Eflite that has to be BNF because that's the only way they will sell them, rarely any PNP from them these days, which sucks. I just pull their receiver and sell it on ebay and can then purchase an Frsky receiver with built in gyro, self leveling and have a few coins left over. Basically same thing as safe only you have to set it up but no biggy after you've done a few plus they have ability to adjust master gains with transmitter, turn off completely if desired.
They have a thrust vectoring EDF jet that looks really interesting. On that YT channel Cleetus McFarland they fly one and it is mind blowing. Looks like it can hover with ease!!!
The FMS 80mm hawk is just a pleasure, I think it should have made the 2nd spot personally. Before the FMS hawk came out my go to 80mm was the freewing 80mm F86. An A7 Corsair would be my favorite if I could have one! Otherwise I really enjoyed the 90mm F-22, the 80mm Cougar is a beauty, the 80mm Avanti for relaxed aerobatics.
Freewing A-10 80mm all the way and Freewing Avanti. The F-14 needs an upgrade with the new Freewing 80mm 3658 2100kv EDF's. For the A-10 it would be a nice to have...

For sure the Freewing A-10 Thunderbolt II Twin 80mm; I love the way mine flies. Great vid Chris!
I haven’t flown the FW A-10. I’ve flown the fms which is a good flyer.
Great review Chris..awesome stuff.
Clever idea for a video! I really love the A-10, too. I have the smaller Eflite A-10 and love the way it flies.
Thanks! That little A-10 is a gem of a flyer too. 😊
Haven’t had the pleasure of any of the top 5-2 but the viper 90 is one of my two best. The 80mm Futura is right there with it for me. Great flight handling, great gear…. Fast as all get out and is just as tough.

I hear you on the military look, but that tbirds scheme is pretty classic though. 😊
Thanks man, I so new. I still have a cone around my head. I love your videos.
Definitely a great list!
Mid 2000's Eflight BAE Hawk was awesome! I wish they'd rerelease it. All composite/balsa and flew like a dream.
I like all your picks. Surprised the F18 did not make the cut and the F14 came in fifth. TVF VP Jerry.
You know, I’ve only flown the eflite f-18 which I liked quite a bit. Haven’t flown the FW to date but have heard good things about it.
Out of the ones I've flown, my top 5 are as follows;
1. Viper 90mm
2. FW F-22 90mm 8S
3. FW Venom 90mm
4. FW T-33 80mm
5. FW Eurofighter 90mm 8S
Honourable mentions to the following;
FMS Futura V3 80mm
FMS Viper 70mm 15th Anniversary Edition
FW Cougar 80mm
FW L-39 80mm
I’ve flown the Viper 70mm and it had to be the best flying edf I’ve had. I think I’ll try the 90mm version next.

Absolutely agree on that. The plane just doesn't wanna fly.
That great sound on the Eflite F-16 is courtesy of the horrible ducting. I've got mine ripped apart to try improving it.
You’re not wrong 🤣

The AeroFoam Mig-17 is a good candidate for soon to be gone. It's got a lot of features and at 90MM it's a large bird with great post WW2 looks.
Hey there. Would you recommend the 90mm E flite Viper as a beginner jet? What do you think of the 90mm FMS Viper? Also, which one sounds better?
70mm Avanti, your new understanding about EDF

Interesting video, thanks. No 70mm jets included but love the Eflite F-16 & FMS YAK-130 for people that don't want to go larger than 70mm right now.
The 70mm F-16 is a great airplane. Being so light, it’s super fun. Haven’t flown the yak, but am hoping to at some point.

Love that jet, including the vivid paint scheme which really helps with in flight orientation.

2. Freewing 90mm T-45 Goshawk V2
3. Freewing 80mm L-39 Albatros (Camo version)

4, Freewing twin 80mm A-10
3, FMS 80mm F86
2, FMS 80mm hawk
1, FMS/E-Flite 90mm viper

100% the F-16 but I still wish the 90mm was still in production. Unless someone has one for sale
