6.0 Powerstroke - No Throttle Response

- A 6.0 Powerstroke with no throttle response is becoming a fairly common issue as these engines get older. On my Excursion with the 6.0 Powerstroke, the throttle response was intermittent, making for a tough diagnosis. I spent over $3,000 at the dealer, yet experienced the same throttle response issue on the way home. While it can be a major problem, it can also be a bad sensor or sensor connection. Try these 5 checks before you start throwing money and parts at the problem.
Thanks for the video, I was stranded on the side of the road in my 04 F350 superduty with no throttle response, after watching your video I pulled the harness off the ICP sensor, re seated it and the throttle operated perfectly. Now that I'm home I'm going to check everything else out.

Great video my friend. You remind me of an old family friend, Ron Johnson, who never had less than five classic Corvettes in his garage that he was working on. Given enough time......that man could troubleshoot a problem using only his eyes, ears, and nose. No scanners. Same haircut too haha. Keep up the good work sir.

On that ICP sensor pigtail you are missing a little grey piece that goes on the end of the pigtail that secures the pins in place. Look up "ICP sensor pigtail grey piece" and you'll see the part you are missing if you look close. I would fix that cause it could cause intermittent issues like you are describing.

Hi Jesse, Hi PCG, my 2005 f250 6.0 super-duty issue is when it is running around 60 MPH. I get a Wrench light on the dash and sometimes the check eng also lights up. The CheckEng goes away in a couple of days, the Wrench light it goes away if I turn the truck eng off and on again. If I only drive in the city no problems. Only when it gets to around 70mhp. All I do is take foot off accelerator of a second and it works again... Any thoughts? Thanks for the video...

Great video I had that issue today on the freeway but when we got home on the tow truck I did start the truck and it did work just fine apparently only happens when the truck is hot, my truck is a 2005 f250 6.0 and only has 97000 miles.
Hopefully you can track it down.
If it won’t start while hot it could either be the standpipes or stc fitting
Helpful vid, Im not up and running yet but like one guy said he unplugged the EBP sensor and it moved, for me i at least get something on the throttle, very little but something, so thats flippin weird...
When mine was acting up, it was all or nothing…no part throttle. Reseating the EBP sensor fixed it.
My 03 has been doing that for yrs.shops cant fix it. If it sits and idles to long or when it gets hot it may do it. Turn key off, restart and run fine. I will try what you did. Thanks

I want to buy heavy duty batteries for my 2004 F 350 PowerStroke 6.0 Diesel putting into consideration the cold weather.The batteries that I have now in the truck are not powerful enough.I will really appreciate your recommendation and also that of UA-camrs that can also help.
I think I’ve had 800 cca and also 750 cca batteries on mine. Liked the 800 better. Just as important, make sure your terminals are clean because the corrosion will cause starting problems for sure.
Yo I think I asked you before but on my 06 f250 6.0 im getting a code p2262 (no boost detected). Do you know the common problems? The Hose from the map sensor to intake manifold looks fine. Could it be the map sensor? I know when I start it in the morning it has no power. Takes 25 seconds to go 60mph. But after 8-10min you can finally hear the turbo come on and then its fine
I've never had that particular issue, but I would start with the MAP sensor. Make sure no vacuum hoses are disconnected to that sensors and that there are no cracks on the hose, on either end.
Since it does work once warm, may also point to a failing electrical connection that finally makes contact once heated up, (also on MAP sensor).
in other words the slim bag dealship ripped u off why couldnt they detect that?
No codes set except EGR-related. So that was their assumption.

That sounds like a different problem. The first thing would check for is the turbo functioning correctly. There is a part in the turbo called a unison ring that can get stuck and make it feel like it is lacking power.

Exhaust Back-Pressure (EBP) sensor. I also have a 2004 Excursion 6.0, Limited Edition. It's a later build, notably at the PCM/FICM. Apparently Ford had eliminated the EBP through programming modifications, though the sensor itself still exists. It drove me nuts because the truck was running rough, even relaced the sensor and cleaned the tube to no avail. Then I was told by Ford 6.0 experts that the EBP software was excluded. Eventually I solved the rough running problem, due to a turbo air intake seal. Anyone else have their thoughts on the EBP issue?
EGR Valve, a $200 part and they charged you about $1800????
good video ! my 2002 f250 doing that now? started two days ago now it just idles no throttle i did check a few things but still not better

On a 7.3 it could be the ipr causing it as well
Having that issue right now I tried unplugging the icp but still no pedal any ideas or should I go check other things you discussed in video mine idles but does atall sometimes
Mine stalled a few times as well but usually would only manifest the no acceleration issue. I think if I were in your shoes I would start by checking all my connections in the areas identified on the video. Also on that ICP connector just because it’s plugged in doesn’t mean it’s making a connection. Another subscriber mentioned to me that he had to replace his whole connector because it was actually broken inside and you couldn’t tell by looking at it. Hope you get it going!

@@pinkcaddygarage267 hello just thought I'd let you know I unplugged the EBP sensor and got a throttle pedal and wrench light went off so now I guess I'll buy a new EBP iv seen videos of being able to clean the tube it goes to ill try that first

What codes were you throwing?
It was 6 years ago so I don't recall the code number...dealer said it was related to the EGR though.
I'd be asking for refund from Ford place at least the labor

Throwing several codes p2104 p2127 38 39 2285 have wrench light on also
Ken...I believe that if you're getting the P2104 code that is indicating you have a different issue and that the ECM is actually preventing you from getting any throttle action. Also known as "Limp Home Mode". I never had that code on my PowerStroke, so I'm not sure chasing down the tiems in my video will lead to a solution. If I were you, I'd start by doing some research on the PowerStroke forums for folks that have solved the P2104 code. Once you solve the base issue the P2104 should be resolved.
Still, since you also have the 2285 code, it could be ICP-related. From Google: "Code P2285 is a code indicating the engine is detecting the ICP is too low out of specifications and the fuel injection system cannot work correctly with this sensor and the engine may have running and drivability issues."
It sounds like your truck is pointing you in the right direction and is at least providing some clues.
