This 70 year old lady is quite interested what happens to this Cat!My dad had his own timber business. I started out as a 3 year old running the winch line to pick up and move the logs! It was attached like this winch line. So glad I came across your channel!👍👍
Wow 3 years old and operating the winch !! I used to help my Trucker Dad Sheet and rope flat bed trailer loads when I was around 10 years old 13 ft high and drive his Truck at the yard. Dad’s weren’t they great 👍👍👋 Manchester England 👋
I know I'm a year late.. RESPECT Sir you are the master.... Amazing to see that running again while I've yet to check whats going on with it now.. saving it from scap is a win in my book, well done!
You know I grew up in a small town my father had a lot of oil junkers and clunkers and stuff we he'd buy for $50 and $100 here and there bring them home some we'd fix them some I'd jump in them driving in the woods to the kid and leave them some got buried some got burnt we had a great old time I love your show brings back memories
Excellent video I'm glad you kept it from being cut up and it would be nice to see you and Matt do a get together thank you for sharing this two thumbs up
The padlock you cut off was a Corbin out of New Britain CT. The keys had a long alpha-numeric code number. I saw Dad using them in 1970-72 to lock the fuel caps on the tanks of the construction equipment. Vandals loved to pour sand and dirt in the tanks. This was while the eastern link of I-95 was being built around Washington DC.
We used to use 5500 psi pressure washers with hotsies that slid out of the side of a sprinter. They were bad ass. Made by Honda. Built like tanks. Took years of abuse daily pressure washing kitchen exhaust systems sometimes for hours on end. Just rebuild the pumps every now and then. Never had an issue with the burners/hotsies. But we would have to replace hoses. They would get bubbles eventually.
Count me in as a enthusiastic YES! on the CAT collab. I like the way you approach things - if it runs, it deserves every chance at a new life. That compound is spectacular! Great episode!!!
Those old dog's run forever. I had a 977H model. That appears to be a "G" model. I believe that was the last year for the brake lever. The "H" would steer by foot pedals, no lever. I worked mine Southern California a little over thirteen years with few problems. Your model was built about 1963-64.
The fact that you successfully resurrected this 37 long years, overgrown with shrubbery, abandoned behemoth is already so unbelievable! You sir are a mechanic who deserves to be celebrated worldwide! ❤❤❤❤❤
I have watched Andrew for years. He is the one man army. I just started watching your channel this past week and it is so fitting the two of you team up.
I like the real view you present. Not everything is great and perfect, there are hiccups. Fun to see these out machines get another chance. Keep up the good work. Wonder if today's new machine will be able to start like this one in 50 years.
Huge respect to saving the CAT, and yes to collab with diesel creek. Team up on saving old equipment ? or make ultra progress together on one of your shop setups / vehicles ?
Have sent a gentle hint to our mutual friend at Diesel Creek to help the Cat Purr - hope it comes off would be fantastic to watch the old girl come back to us all
LOL. It's amazing that the "wil it run" video brought me back to the compound in the catskills. I watched the build of this compound years ago and now I'm back...full circle. Kind of wild.
Chris, zero disappointment in any of your videos. Keep doing what you're doing. Really like your style. Re: people calling the defunct towing company, JFC some people are stupid.
Thanks so much man, really hoped to get more work done in this one but you know how it goes sometimes. And yeah, I don't know why people would be calling the number. Lol
It's hard to believe that thing sat from the time I was just 13 years old until two years ago (I'm now 52) and started right up! Even with gallons of water seeping through the pistons for nearly four decades. Unbelievable, Detroit iron!
Its so funny, you guys are one big family! Every UA-camr I follow, has mentions of each other, mostly all that I have followed for a long time. All provide great content and entertainment. Another great vid Chris!!
My first log loader was a 977 that I bought in 1983 that I ran for years before I bought 966C models. That 977 was a great old machine. No winch but counterweights instead. I loaded a lot of big logs with that 977 and still have a framed photo on my wall of me loading with it.
hi I am from the uk, this is the first video that I have watched, it wasn't a disappointment, the fact that you saved a machine from the breakers is worth watching. carry on the good work, a collaboration with matt at diesel creek would be excellent
I’m by no means am I a heavy equipment mechanic, businessman, etc….But I think this one is worth more in parts and scrap than fixing up. I’ve done cars for 30yrs. It’s kinda the same thing. Some things reach a point where the good parts and scrap are worth more than the whole. But you guys will determine that👍🙂 Great video, love learning new things from you guys. Much love and respect my friends 👍🙂
Restore it! I'm not sure where you're located at. But if you were close I'd happily lend a hand. Definitely has potential and I love the restoration aspect! Thanks for the video.
PB Blaster is really good stuff when it comes to seized metal parts, especially since it leaves a protection film to help prevent future headaches with regular maintenance applications.
Hey man. It's your machine. Do what you want with it. I watch your videos for the process. I like that you are realistic about what the end results are. Makes your content relatable.
That lock is made by Corbin, Cat used to sell them (all with the same key pinning) until the mid 80's when they came out with their own Cat branded corporate padlock. I probably still have some keys laying around for them.
Nice job Chris. I was thinking of Andrew from your first video of the CAT. I have been following Andrew for several years. Excellent idea getting UA-camrs together. You seem to be one of the few that do collaborating. Keep up the great work.
I remember watching this Cat977 roll up on Andrew's property some time back. Never thought i'd see how and where it came from. Any friend of Andrew is a friend of mine. I just watched part on and part two. Subscribed.
I can't say I agree with all your rushing through, BUT so glad to see it run and saved. I'm shocked no track links were frozen. The K series (what I learned on RIP 46H192) are much easier and safer to work on! Good job!
I had a sticky throttle cable on my F250. Used the air hose trick to lube it, rather than replace it. Thanks Chris! And yeah, if you’re in the market for a steam power washer, buy a Hotsi brand. They’re the best
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I definitely think you should do a collaboration with a couple other UA-cam channels for this vehicle and then fix it up and at the end of fixing it up you make it so people can buy merch and if they buy merch they get a ticket entry into winning that piece of equipment that you fixed up... lots of channels do this and it's a good way to make money for passion projects.
Very cool old machine. The hydraulic hose blow out reminds me of a temporary fix a buddy of mine did with a cat backhoe. The old ones had two rams on the first half of the digging arm. We blew a hose and fluid all over he put a old copper penny in the fitting at the end the pressure came from to block the fluid.we folded the boom back and drove it to the shop. You maybe could do the same with a loader in that case.I wouldn't dig that way we grabbed another machine. Great show bud
That's awesome that Andrew and you hooked up to get this working properly That's an awesome machine and when you first started it up and it sounded like it was only running on two Pistons or three Pistons it's because a cat has to warm up each piston before all of them start firing That's just the way a cat is you start one up cold early in the morning it always sounds like it's getting ready to blow up and it's just the thing just waking up that's all what a great great video and thank you Andrew for helping out and I really hope you get with Matt on diesel Creek and collaborate on another video that would be just totally awesome
Aaaahh Chris when you were pressure washing the back of the Cat I swore you were going to spray a NNKH clean before you blew it off, or s 'subscribe' in the dirt!! Great video brother thanks man!!
That lock that you cut off. It's catpiller pad lock. I have at least 6 of those locks plus the keys. My dad was heavy operator for over 44 year's. Good luck on your project.
Watching these videos makes me want to become a diesel Mechanic. This knowledge could build a country, literally.
Its an incredible work yeah, but as long as you know the basics its the same for all machines
Yes I love these work
Fair play nice to see a machine saved instead of broken up

A couple of guys, a couple of dogs and a big old toy to fix on beautiful summer day. Pretty sweet.
I know I'm a year late.. RESPECT Sir you are the master.... Amazing to see that running again

Amazing that the motor wasn’t locked up! Awesome job getting it running and moving!
I'd love to see you and Matt from Diesel Creek collaborate on this machine, that would make a great video or two. I enjoyed this one a lot .
Please God make this happen
A Great project for Matts new shop! Help him get that overhead gantry up!

That was a long sentence...
That Chrysler Marine shirt is awesome. I live on an old 1980's aluminum Marinette cruiser with twin 318's. They are beasts.
Excellent video I'm glad you kept it from being cut up and it would be nice to see you and Matt do a get together thank you for sharing this two thumbs up
977 was the first machine I learned to operate . That's great your saving it . The one I learned on was a 1947. , pony motor start
You are truly amazing to watch. Love watching you do magic.
This was awesome. Though cars are my life, I do love heavy equipment. I operated a Cat 416 back in the 80s!

I agree! Let's see you Andrew & Matt team up and get the CAT 977 running & lookin good.
I for one would love to see you and whoever collaborate and get that machine in use.
Amazing colab never thought I’d see this machine again. MATT WOULD BE AMAZING ON THIS. let’s leave comments on his videos for this colab.
It is really satifying to see the older machines come back to life. Cannot wait to see what ultimately happens to this machine.

No, no disapointment Chris, you got it running and alot of people including myself got to enjoy the videos.
😢 I was really looking forward to you guys restoring it!
Wow ! Chris, you and Andrew together will be unstoppable in anything you work on or troubleshoot !! Hell yea.
CROSSOVERS, epic@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes! I'd love to see you team with the D7 guy to fix this little lost soul.
Andrew is a good friend to have
I operated a Cat 977 in the late 80's, still had the pup start.
2 great mechanical minds together, I'm not surprised you delivered interesting content here.

Enjoy all yours videos so much. 👍🤘
Loved it, and the drone shot at the end.
Now I have to go see what a container castle looks like.
Man that thing sounds good, love that deep grunting bark of the old diesels

Good job getting it back in working order I love to hear these old disels running
bringing in Matt is an awesome idea!!!
Please do more videos on this thing, the clicks should earn your costs on parts though..💪👍👍

Thumbs up 👍 progress from scrap metal to work but still needed TLC 😊
I just got one myself in about the same shape. It would be great to see it brought back to a usable condition.
Yeah, would like to see Matt and Andrew fix that 977 Cat Track Loader, that would be Awesome.
I'm amazed how well the engine runs after all these years.
Thank you. We know times are not E-Z, please keep this going, it's a great series!!
Andrew has still got what may be the coolest shop I've seen. It's like half man cave /hangout and half industrial shop.
I cannot believe it !! Two of my favorite channels together. Tell Jen hi.

Yes! Would love to see a three way collaboration. Let’s go for it fellas. This is going to be perfect content.
Dear brother Matt. and Andrew. The machine that you revived is really an absurd job. May God bless your untiring effort.
.
Wow,Nice how it works and many other heavy equipment
I had a sticky throttle cable on my F250. Used the air hose trick to lube it, rather than replace it. Thanks Chris!
