It's hard to rot out a diesel engine; the fuel is so thick that it's practically engine oil. It preserves the bearings and repels leaking water better than gasoline. Long as the water doesn't freeze and crack the block, the years of idleness mean very little.
Quite a few petrol as well as diesel in the video, and from 8:30 a lot of them aren't even starting they're already running lol. Nice video though all the same and some rare iron to boot.
Tractors have always seemed quite intimidating to me. I don’t know if it’s the wheels, but you wouldn’t want one of these gigantic machines coming towards you in a hurry.

I love old tractors but ill never understand why people ether a tractor to life right into high idle. Ether is not an acceptable way to start a diesel 90% of the time. Fix whats wrong with it so it starts like god intended without ether!
It's sometimes quite hard to get fuel moving but I fully agree that using ether is a quick way to rune these old machines they need care and patience to start
@@anthonyross9276 yeah we usually don't use ether instead wd-40 is a good replacement for ether give it a little snort down the cylinder and usually runs long enough to grab some fuel
Well it makes since. If you know it runs before you took it a part and how it ran if. You'll know you did something wrong if it dont start after you put it back together.
I utterly cringe every time one of those old tractors start up, when I think about the amount of rust and crud that is probably in their radiators and cooling systems all being washed into waterports in the engine block.
To all environmentalists concerned: Why don't you environmentalists put pressure on your governments to set aside a special fund for the recall of smoke belching vehicles and replacing them with more efficient ones? The governments can address that issue at the United Nations when next they meet. Please show some interest and take action now in preserving our environment. We have to save our environment at all costs everyone!!!!
You forget the pollution caused by the manufacture of new products. Also the new emission controlled diesels are not as fuel efficient as their mechanical predecessors.
All those old smoke belching tractors should be recalled to their place of manufacture and special work should be done to cut down drastically the amount of smoke and other emissions coming from them when their engines are on.There are some other vehicles like diesel trucks and other smoke belching vehicles that should be recalled and worked on to cut down the amount of emissions coming from them.As you know that's BAD for the environment.

Plus, some of these models, companies don't even make parts for. I'm a graduated Diesel Tech student. I've worked on more diesel motors than you've ever seen.

Worth more than these newer models
Gotta love old tractors 👍👍👍
The b414 by far started better than any other and it the oldest starts up yet
Michael, if they haven’t been running in a decade, they aren’t polluting much. A lot of pollution to fabricate a new machine.
Agreed
10:29 sw400 w john deere
Thumbs up liked for you and be safe out there also.
Damn, this tractor looks like an owl...1:50
There are a lot of fordson majors a tribute to how well they start
Not nearly as well as the 730 diesel
Them fordson major diesels man 😏
The Hake with a new tractor, I got me a brand new old one!

Was that mice and or nests blown out of the exhaust? LOL
Short answer: most likely yes. I was waiting to see one that had an overlooked hornet's nest in the exhaust.
10 yrs seems to be the norm.
Most of these starts would've been much easier if the diesel was pre-heated in some way. What do you think?
Some of them fired up a "chonchon" (some kind of fire pot) under engine and allowed to start easily
3:19 Power steering?
No
That last one the "4020" was not a 4020 it wasnt even a 4000 series jd it was a 5000 series jd most likely a 5020 .

I wonder how todays tractors start in 50-years time.
They wont be able to
why do you just let them sit? give em away, or let your neighbor use them. better than just letting them die.
People die or not able to pass them down it's quite sad actually

Why would that John Deere B, be all restored and painted before cranking it up. Not sure on the 10 years not started. Just sayin folks.

If that 1931 John Deere hasn't been started in 68 years why is the flywheel so shiny? I'm calling bullshit on that one.
