Suggestions for the newbies doing their intonation: get your actions height where you want it before trying to perfect your intonation - changing the action can have a lot of impact. When pressing the string down to the 12th fret, take care to go straight down, and with no more pressure than needed to get a clean note. Pressing too hard, especially behind the fret rather than right on it, also impacts intonation. Great stuff as always Michael! 👍
Great tutorial, I checked the intonation on my CBG and it was way off. It took me less than 5 minutes to set it up correctly following your instructions. It sounds so much better now. Thanks
Michael, I have my thoughts about this but I had better keep them to myself. I must stay within the protocol. I am enjoying this swamp that I am living in.
Great video Michael. If, like me, you're a bit of a musical novice, intonation is one of those mystical concepts that seem unfathomable. It's not however, your video makes that clear. Good job!
These sound fantastic Michael, so im going to build one myself beginning with a resonator. Your channel has good content and you Sir are an inspiration.
Thanks Paul. Its a sign of genius I think :) Even though all my tools are in a pile all over the place, I know where EVERYTHING is. lol That's what I tell myself, ,anyway lol
Hey Michael I'm new to watching your channel I just want to say thank you for responding to people it's really nice it's your so connected with everyone thank you
Very informative and enjoyable video Michael, Yes, your correct, although the clip on tuners are great, the tuner you used in this video is more accurate and ideal for the intonation tuning, I have two different models myself, besides a couple of clip-ons, Its amazing how the bridge position can throw it out, but then, your the Guv'nor, I learnt a bit from you again mate, Anyway, God Bless you all across there.
Thanks Steve. Yeah, I'm not a fan of the hard tail bridges either. Plus you have to take the bridge off to open the box :( I like the floating wood bridges, I think they sound better too. 😎
I've only done 4 builds, 3 floating bridges and 1 hard tail, I do prefer a floating bridge. The hard tail build is by far the best looking and it sounds great, but I still think the floating bridge gives you more flexibility in your build.
@@SouthernFireGuitars Thanks Michael, I also got inspired by your video of the telecaster kit build and built myself a Les Paul style guitar. One drawback is that it has twice as many strings than what I'm used to. Damn it, I'm actually gonna have to learn how to play properly! 😁
@@toadmeister1964 That's cool. Those kits are fun to build. Hey, you can always just tune the 6 stringer to an open G, and play some killer slide with it. :)
My intonation doesn't suck, yours does! I know you are, what am I... 😜😂 Totally kidding! Great video on showing this process. You didn't miss a beat (even demonstrating to always tune down and then back up to your note if sharp). When you hit that C at the 5th fret I just smiled... I knew you had nailed it. Great job, Michael!
You make great videos thats for sure, but do you ever use any of the tuner apps on your cellphone, I find them much more precise. Also do make 6 stringers, like lap steel guitar?
Thanks to your videos I have made my first cigar box guitar and it is a blast to play! I set up the intonation and noticed that on my high D sting (tuned to GDG) my 10th and 11th fret make the same note, is that a high fret issue you think?
Question! When you use floating bridge like you made here, does it move if your hand is anchored against it when you play for a while or is the pressure from the strings enough to keep it locked in place? Thanks!
Thank for checking it out. You can find the tuner here on the second row www.amazon.com/shop/southernfireguitars/list/WUSB5XUEF24J?ref_=nav_custrec_signin
@@SouthernFireGuitars michael.. i went to that link looking for the tuner.. the one they show clips on the guitar like the one i already have.. what is the name of the tuner that plugs directly into the guitar like yours?
Hi Michael! Great video, you saved my life because i don't know what is the problem on my guitar i couldn't find the right tone. Do you know something why this intonation can happen? What is the reason if we all do the right fret positions from the template? Why it is not perfect from the first time? Thank you!
Thanks Attila. A lot of factors got into the setting of the intonation, Nut height, bridge height, string size, fret spacing, and nut placement. I find a lot of time its the correct nut placement, when using a template. I did a video on that. ua-cam.com/video/w5IAX9ZYE1s/v-deo.html
@@SouthernFireGuitars Thank you very much for the many useful tips and videos. I learned a lot from you. Your channel is the best, it's the closest to my heart. Just in case, if you happen to be in Hungary, write me and I'll be happy to show you around Budapest :)
😭😭😭😭 I know! I know!! My intonation SUCKS! But I'm in therapy now!! My therapist tells me the best cure for intonational suckiness is to "turn the gain up to 11!" (I love my therapist and his fancy shmancy Harvard-sounding terms!) Wait! We're talking about INtonation?? Right??!! .... right... okay...okay 😬
Well, your therapist is right, turning your volume up to 11-12 CAN drowned out intonation suckiness especially when accompanied with TONS of distortion. :) LOL
That riff you were rocking is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
