  • In this episode I discuss the importance of proper piezo placement. Of course my ideas are my own and open to discussion. Quite a few years ago I built a cbg with 4 piezo pickups placed around the box. One mounted in my favourite place, under the neck timber directly under the bridge, one placed between the box top and neck, under the bridge. Another two were placed on the box top. One next to the bass side of the bridge and the other next to the bridge on the treble side. Maybe you can hear the difference and choose which one sounds better to you. I must admit that only two of the output jacks were useable as the other two had rusted closed due to years of utter neglect. I hope you enjoy the video.

    I'm a Del disciple...... that's awesome.
I put mine under bridge centered on the low string. Great info video.

I am a Del disciple and build them that way too. They sound great. I'm building # 8 and 9 in about 6-8 months. So much fun to build and play.

Cool video! I've been wondering about this recently, but haven't bothered to test it out for myself so I'm glad you uploaded this today.
By the way, I might have missed it if you mentioned it, but was there any significant volume difference between the two locations?

The pickup being under the neck was notably louder than the one fastened to the box top. The tone was also clearer, less muted.

Hi Adam, does this only work when you use a wooden bridge? I tried it using a bolt didn't get any sound had to it move to the box top.

And you just use superglue to attach the piezo to the neck

Yes. Superglue sets like glass. I use the thickness of the timber to filter out the high end frequencies and a volume control does the rest. Hot glue is terrible here in Australia as I often find that it melts over 40degrees C. I use the tape to hold it in place as the glue dries. Never a problem:) I end up with a strong rich tone that I can shape with the volume control.
