    Sup fam! Don’t panic, we still got a shit ton of hard hitting biomechanics, exercise science and technical cueing coming! This Saturday I’m filming a squat cue video zero people have ever talked about on UA-cam.
    Sunday I film a podcast about training away from failure and the recent studies accumulating on it showing how effective it is even more than training to failure for muscle growth/strength!
    Main difference is I don’t care about editing, idc about being concise to UA-cam time standards, and from time to time I’m gonna preach shit I think people should hear! No filter.
    See y’all soon!

    People are gonna mess with you for the fact that you’re willing to be more opinionated. I for one cross reference you a lot since we train pretty similarly. The real ones will stick around. Most powerlifters train like sloths but your approach to movement variability is the real deal
    *He doesn’t even like powerlifting but he uses meet prep as a barometer for strength*
    this right here is the only reason I personally do SBD.

    This raw unfiltered content is going to get your channel the recognition it deserves mark my words. Being “filtered” and “professional” is nice and all, but people need to know there is no sexy answers to lifting. Your no bullshit attitude is what the online fitness culture needs. Especially in the age of easily digestible surface level information being pumped on the fitness side tik tok/insta. If people don’t like what you have to say then they can keep watching those aforementioned fitness tik toks and not learn anything. Keep being you bro 🐐

    Hey Bren, I really enjoyed this raw all you type of video, this should be the standard imo. I personnally agree with most of what you said in video, other than the cheat days. I've had really bad experiences with this in the past and it resulted in binge eating and erasing a week's worth of a deficit. I prefer tracking daily without any cheat days personally, but to each his own. Other than that, great video brother !

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  3 роки тому +1

      I think truthfully if I had even more time for nuance I’d say that it’s a journey to get there but for many I think it’s more doable than they think. Tracking is a must for brief stint in your overall “training career”. However eventually it becomes pretty unsustainable for most. Again key word most, never all.
      Really happy you enjoyed the video man! The response has been so positive, makes me happy!!

    I can already feel like this new take of the channel will move more people towards it I’m not sure why 😂 but I for one at excited on what’s to come. I agree with the powerlifting sitting around for minutes on end, I really enjoyed when a coach told me that it should be 1.5-2 minutes of rest cause not only is that good rest time but it’s also helping you build some cardiovascular that turns over to lifting heavy and such. Didn’t word it exact as he did but that’s what I got from it LOL

    Yeah like, I am getting this. I actually lift to feel good about myself being in as good a shape as I can be in but my passion is DownHill Mountain Biking (my outside cardio :) and my goals come from my physio saying, "you can wear all the body armor you want but the best form of body armor (crash protection) is muscle". He was right. I have avoided a couple of surgeries because tissue density 'saved' me. That right there is my motivator to push hard and stay on plan

      @@BrendanTietz yeah, I dont focus my training around meets but I use them to hit strength milestones. And this was my first time to max 3 lifts in one day, I matched all my gym PRs which was my main goal, Im already planning my training blocks for the next one in december, I got to rewatch your older videos on programming, imo they are the best because you explain everything and they are easy to digest

  • @samthelad4313

    As both a lifter and a trainer, I agree with this big time.
    Enjoying your training is an important factor that a lot of people overlook. The lifting community especially in the last few years has been flooded with a lot of personality types that try to sort of "minmax" every bit of their training according to science - but the psychological aspect of training progress is super important too, simply being excited to train will always give you that extra "oomph" and faster progress

  • @Whurlin

    One of the best fitness channels on UA-cam. One of the most knowledgeable lifters who also loves what he preaches and serves as his own testimony for his approach. When I talk to people who want to get into the gym for general strength training, I reference your info A LOT and usually just end up saying "look up Brendan Tietz on UA-cam, it'll make more sense coming from him, trust me." Lol Your sub maximal approach has completely transformed my training.

  • @YungJuve
    @YungJuve 3 роки тому +1

    Some great points, as always. My training over the years have evolved to include things that work (having the most carry overs to the main lifts) and things that I like (that keep me a little bit more excited to go to the gym and push myself harder). Great analogy there at 12:47 LMAO.

    My number one gripe with people whether I agree or disagree with them is that they are opinionless and meek unless you push them. This channel is the opposite of that always making bold claims but not only that but actually backing them up scientifically and more importantly practically. A few ppl ik arent a fan of you and make critiques with tone policing bullshit but when questioned about what your wrong about they dont have an answer. Lots of ppl dont like polarizing opinionated ppl unless their famous or rich or in this case super fucking succesful as a lifter as if you need to have accolades to make claims and substantiate them. Last time I checked all you need is logic and a foundational understanding of how what your talking about plays out in the real world. Keep it goin man! Never a dull video.

    I experienced something similar recently where in 1 session I just completely burnt out and lost my love of powerlifting. Was in the gym aiming for a Deadlift PR and couldn't even lift my old PR that I'd set after very little powerlifting during the pandemic. I literally said f*ck it, left the gym and cancelled my membership with them. Since then I'm 2-3 weeks into a much needed cut, training at home with a mix of weights and weighted calistenthics and feeling psychologically much more connected with my training and enjoying it more.

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  3 роки тому +2

      Without enjoyment there’s zero way we can progress. I actually think this is why my training was so stale from 2018-2020, just couldn’t progress without forcing it. Really happy to hear now you are good!

  • @rookendgame

    I increased my bench from 225x4 paused to 235x5 paused in 2 months and then I completely plateaued. I actually regressed to my starting weight. My first reaction was to drop the weight and increase the reps to grow more muscle and give up on being strong. You helped me realize that's a mistake

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  3 роки тому +3

      That’s totally normal! Stimulus can only go so far, reorient the goals towards something else while you allow for a desensitization phase on bench! Also next program try a completely different approach! New stimulus is key!
      I’m glad I could help you realize the importance of overload! While it can be monotonous it can really bring about the best gains! The key though is changing courses when needed.

    Sheeesh hard to watch some of this training, dealing with my first "injury". Never experienced pain in an area for more than a few days maybe til now.
    Trying to learn from it and actually change my habits around cause I almost certainly could've avoided this if I did the stuff I knew I should've been doing (prehab)
    Glad to hear you're gonna be more genuine to yourself. Zack Telander recently decided to do something similar and has said he feels much more fulfilled

    • @BrendanTietz
      @BrendanTietz  3 роки тому +2

      Dude injuries blow but remove your reaction to them as much as possible. Control what you can control and focus on goals not hindered by it while simultaneously creating goals of rehab.
      Instead of viewing it after the lens of progression and regression, remember the trajectory will always be upward until the day you stop. This is a part of the journey up and just an obstacle as cliche as that sounds. So control it by doing everything you should be doing currently while also simultaneously removing any emotional control that doesn’t exist.
      Also I’m going to be doing a ton of videos on injury prevention soon and what I’ve done to finally avoid or shorten any injuries unlike my previous years where I was always fucked up.

    but when it's at the point that my head tells me I need to do x... When I hate x but love y. I know I have to dial back my research.
    My training goes to shit until I switch back to y or try z...
    Training really has to suit the athlete and their responce.. As when you try to shoe horn a lifter into the training that doesn't fit them.. They die inside and burn our.

    And holly shit yeah powerlifters today can be some of the most surface level, low level thinking people I dont mean academically smart I mean introspective and poses a philosophy and can think critically. Sometimes I just wonder if the person even knows why their doing something. Have they ever even thought deeply about the topic and had a conversation with themselves? Usually no they just kinda do what they've been influenced to and before you know it they put "powerlifter" in their IG. I see this incredibly commonly with girls especially but it applies to all. I call it the powerlifter pipeline or the big three rabbit hole. And they usually lack understanding of programming, psychology, physiology, nutrition, supplementation and definitely pharmacology (Some think Mike Ohearn is natty lmfao) Rlly uninviting to think deeply. If you asked 90% of these ppl why they do something they'll just repeat what they heard or they'll be like "I did an extra set of curls my cns is fried" no motherfucker thats negative placebo and conformation bias talking u heard it somewhere and now ur internalization may actually be causing some physiological manifestation. So many ppl start lifting and become self identified powerlifters within a month of doing a powerlifting specific program which is a mistake btw its insidious. Even some of the young USAPL lifters who win nationals theyre 17 or 18 diving fully into specificity and missing out on their adaptive window to build muscle. I know a kid whos 190 rn whos been 190 for the last year while his lifts keep going up and up and up makes no sense but he thinks hes just gonna be able to be a 93kg and 105kg lifter one day if he chooses to bulk once he becomes 83kg national champ. Guarantee by the time hes in his 20s those behind him now who are not investing everything into the big 3 and take movement variability and general strength and physique building seriously will pass him by bc hell be limited by his closed adaptive window that he never made the most of. Powerlifters bullshitting accessory work fuck I dont even call it accessory work I call it my workout after my big lifts I smash secondary movements beyond failure and ppl ask me why I have 18 inch arms and 28 inch legs without a pump, well a big part is genetics but if I trained how alot of these ppl trained, ate, supplemented and practiced recovery and sleep Id be 20lbs less muscular. Im fired up lmfao.
