Finally you gave me the final piece of obscure info to work out how to record multiple audio tracks on my mpc one running 2.10. Reset your preferences to cure the recording arm bug (from another UA-camr) and don’t use overdub! I’d like to add another quirk is to change the monitor from ‘in’ back to ‘auto’ so you can hear what you’ve recorded! Definitely a powerful music production centre now!
thanks. Yeah, the MPC LIVE and X can warp, but you can't put warp points on the track like in ableton live. The warp applies to the whole track so you can change bpm like shown in the video. 👍
Thank you for answering a question I had about using the audio tracks! I spent half the day messing around and finally had success. So appreciate your help! Keep up the great content!
Geez, already using the mpc for a while but never used it this way man. Helped me out, thanx! What I do is make a track, convert to 1 sequence. Route main sounds or beats thru external fx processor en record it again in the method you just described. This way I have the original 'sample/sounds' but also the one with the fx on it. I can export all the stems seperate later on. Works like a charm!
I got used to using the overdub button instead of the rec button before I started learning how to use the audio tracks, so when I tried to record a guitar loop I couldn't understand why it was armed and still wouldn't record when I could hear everything and sample fine. I didn't catch that part in your other video where you use a guitar but thank you for pointing this out.
unless i'm missing something you can only arm 1 track at a time to record in audio tracks. so.... say you want to record acoustic guitar mic and the pick up and generate 1 mono track for each (mic track, pick up track) 1. recording in stereo hard pan L and hard pan R using the audio interface - (guitar mic hard left, pickup hard r ) 2. open up that audio file in sample edit 3. extract the whole thing twice naming mic, pickup 4. load mic stereo - audio process - stereo to mono (left sum right) choose left 5. load pickup stereo - audio process - stereo to mono (left sum right) choose right you now have 3 wav files 1.the original stereo hard panned you recorded 2. mono of just mic 3. mono of just pickup

I’ve been really enjoying the idea of using Audio Tracks for Backing Tracks, long takes of vocals and guitars (especially w 2.10). I’m trying to find ways of saving as much memory as possible though and have a couple questions: does deleting silence out of an audio track save memory? Can you mix in the Track Mixer, then bounce to a new Audio Track?
Thanks again! How do you fade in a track slowly over the drums (sort of like how a looped disco sample slowly fades in during house music tracks). I can only see how to mute/unmute but not how to slowly fade it in. Thanks again!
Thanks for the video. I want to cut a few bars from my count-in before the music starts in my audio tracks. I am having trouble doing that? How is it done? Thank you.
Hey Matt, of course I'm having another problem with the audio tracks...when I record an audio track, and say it's a 4 bar/measure loop, it's recording properly, but the reverb tail is being cutoff completely and coming to a stop when the loop goes back to the beginning. Is there anyway around this? I don't want the reverb tail to cutoff, I want it to keep going like the drum kits sounds do, because they don't cutoff when you stop the sequence? And is there anyway to put a metronome in the sampler while recording into it? Thanks...SBN RESONATE
i bounced 4 beat midi to audio. but my sequence is 8 beats. now i have audio track playing only for the first 4 beats. cant use step sequencer, still dont know how to assign to pad since im a newb, got my mpc live 2 two days ago. can i repeat an audio track or at least arrange it? i guess i should assign the audio track to the pads and then arrange it in step sequencer? maybe even chop it? thanks.
Do you have a video showing hot to resample an audio track after you’ve put effects on it, reversed it, transposed it, etc.? I don’t see how you can save an audio track after you’ve manipulated it in this way. I’m guessing you have to resample it, but I’m not sure how that’s done either.
1. you do such a wonderful job with your videos 2. such a shame that the MPC doesn't allow for on the fly, overdub audio recording...it could be a super-looper and phenomenal for live performance, but these little, inexplicable limitations really hold it back for that particular use case.
Yeah. I agree. I really wish it could handle audio tracks better for on the fly recording. Even if the Looper had 5 loop tracks or something. It would really make it an amazing Live device for musicians.
Do you actually have to record directly to an audio track to make this work? Whenever I insert a let's say four bar loop it ALWAYS!!! stops after 3 bars. Regardless of the session. I don't know what's the problem here but that's why I stopped using this feature.
There is a bug in audio tracks right now. I sent in a bug report and am told that it is being worked on. I was told if that the work around is to not use the "Master" BPM and to use the sequence "BPM".
@@MatthewStratton thanks!! It’s pretty hard to find how to convert/transfer the audio into the sample edit, the menus are so weird!! For example a whole window for assigning random variations (of pan, filter, pitch etc) has nothings written on it, just the dials. They could have put the header “variations”.
I noticed that your audio from the Digitone cuts off at the end of the recording, looking at the waveform. Are you able to make it so the release of the recording wraps around to the beginning of the sequence so the audio doesn't abruptly stop when it loops?
Set the sequence length a bar longer, record the audio with the tails at the end of the sequence, go into sample edit, etc… Bit of a nightmare, I don’t get why it can’t kick into overdub like all the other track types can so you can capture some tails on the start of the loop.
You can plug any synth into the inputs and record. You can plug a mic preamp into the inputs and record vocals. You can put loops into audio tracks. You can send a line level from your guitar effects and record guitar. You can do a bunch of stuff. Here is a video about using loops: ua-cam.com/video/U5vGefc9mSg/v-deo.html
Thanks. Trying to get my head around this amazing machine these days - what are the advantages of using the audio part? Because everything else is also audio, it is just triggered by midi - so that very same part could also be controlled by midi-events, it could also be chopped up note by note and assigned to midi/pads.
The audio tracks make it way more simple to record external instruments. You just plug it in and record the part on the fly. No pre recording notes into kyegroups, or trying to record onto a pad. If you have a sequence that is 16 bars long, and you try to record a 16 bar sample onto 1 pad, and the try to record other things like drums from a drum program starting at bar 9, you will not hear the audio that was recorded, because there was no midi note to trigger it, the midi note to trigger the pad is on beat 1 of bar 1, not beat 1 on bar 9. Yes, you can sample a part and chop it up into a program. That can be useful as well. It takes a bit more planning and work. You can always record the audio into an audio track and take that audio from the sample pool and chop it up note by note later. Depends on what you want to do and your work flow, and your desired outcome. Every little thing you do on takes time, and being able to record a part on the fly into the mpc live is a very nice feature.
Hi Matt, My audio tracks get cleared when I relaunch my project, even though the recorded files are still in the pool.. Are these only accessible on the MPC X or via USB or something? Would really appreciate any advice you have! Thanks :-)
The MPC Live on has input 1 and 2. You cannot access input 3 and 4 for audio recording with MPC Live standalone. Akai just didn't program it to say only 1 and 2 for MPC Live, but the MPC X has 1,2,3 and 4 accessible.
Could you record audio tracks with a different length than the master sequence length? Let's say if the master sequence is 32 bars could you record 9 bar loop as audio?
There is no setting to do this in the audio tracks as of 2.3 firmware. You can do it for midi tracks though. You can punch in and out of a recording but the length of the audio track is always set to the length of the sequence.
It's not playing back my audio track even though it shows the waveform.. my audio track isn't muted and I can't figure out why I can't hear it. Can you help?
Hello. Anything that you record into an audio track will be located in the sample pool. So you can load any audio recording into a pad and slice it how you want to once it is in the pad.
Brotha Matt thanks for all the tutorials man. Quick question. The live has 2 inputs for a synth , but I have 5 synths lol how can I set it up to use all 5 synths in standalone-if that even matters . Thanks man
You can add 4 Effects in audio tracks using the stock MPC and Air effects in standalone. If you use the software you can and 4 VST effects to audio tracks.
What is the difference between just hooking this up through midi and just recording right into the mpc itself. I don't understand the point of an audio track and I really don't even know what it is. Can't the Elektron just record a instrument/synth part into the system itself or just sample it in?
Audio tracks are ridiculously useful and one of the main reasons why I bought the MPC LIVE. I play instruments (guitar and bass) and am able to record them right into the MPC LIVE and edit them and add effects as I wish. When you record a synth part into it, the mpc simply gives you the flexibility to take your mpc live out of the studio and work on your song elsewhere. It also allows you at add mpc effects to multiple synth parts. It also allows you to take your synth part and chop it in the sample editor to add to drum programs or keygroup programs. It also allows you to warp the pitch up and down. It also allows you to easily copy and paste edited audio from and to different parts of a song (different sequences ect.) The digitone has the ability to have it's own sequences. And you can use the the MPC LIVE to program it using midi. It is all up to you and how you choose to create music. Knowing your options helps.

Hello. Sounds like you have your Start/End points altered. Go to the Main mode. In the Sequence section there is text that says Start / End. Make sure that the start point is on 1 and the end bar is the same number as the sequence has bars.

@@MatthewStratton there needs to be. first off, to convert the recording to a sample, it's a tedious extra step. but then you go to chop, and it can detect transients. just quantize those transients. like ableton, Maschine and heck, im pretty sure my mpc1000 did that. basically it converts it to audio with the transients being triggered by midi.

I still can't believe that such a powerful and advanced machine doesn't support overdub audio tracks.. so.... say you want to record acoustic guitar mic and the pick up and generate 1 mono track for each (mic track, pick up track)
1. recording in stereo hard pan L and hard pan R using the audio interface - (guitar mic hard left, pickup hard r )

3. extract the whole thing twice naming mic, pickup
4. load mic stereo - audio process - stereo to mono (left sum right) choose left
5. load pickup stereo - audio process - stereo to mono (left sum right) choose right
you now have 3 wav files
1.the original stereo hard panned you recorded
2. mono of just mic
3. mono of just pickup
okay you can arm more than one audio track (by default akai only lets you arm 1 at a time)

Does anyone why my markers randomly stop at the 2nd bar.? The blue line above the wavelengths suddenly goes from across all bars to stopping at the 2nd bar. I can’t record because it jus loops and all my buttons on the bottom of the screen aren’t highlighted. So frustrating
Hello. Sounds like you have your Start/End points altered. Go to the Main mode. In the Sequence section there is text that says Start / End. Make sure that the start point is on 1 and the end bar is the same number as the sequence has bars.
Thanks man, I found out it was happening when I changed the tempo in the editor screen. The only way I could fix this was to undo my tempo change. Even if I changed the tempo back manually it would not change back..
How do you delete a audio track in standalone mode?
There is a pencil icon next to the audio track. Press that, and then press Delete.
@@MatthewStratton thanks
My audio won’t record in
Quantize button?
Audio option is useless. MPC....
Is there no way to quantize the audio?
You can cut the audio and move it around but there is no magic quantize feature that I am aware of for audio tracks.
Or just play it in on time !
I have a chrius can make a beat on an send the beat to the xr18 to lay my voice an finish the song
Great video! Imho, the digitone keys sound like taking court trascript.. "name and occupation please".. clickidiy click.click click.. date of birth.. c.c.c.c.
Anyone had a problem not able to record on a track?
I bought mpc one 3 weeks ago. I really like the car a lot but I was disappointed with this thing. I still can't believe that such a powerful and advanced machine doesn't support overdub audio tracks.. It's a stupid thing that greatly reduces the capabilities of the machine if one wanted to use it as a loopstation. Maybe it's because of market rules. If it supported this feature, stuff like boss rcs would have no reason to exist! 🤔😄
